  1. To be fair on Jeremy Vine the section was about not having a fire gaurd and the importance of one. The fire officer on there bought up how wet logs spit, they dont know if was that or a log rolling of that caused it. What he did say was if there had been a firegaurd then those kids might still be alive and there were no smoke alarms.
  2. Not by one man -we had 4 stolen out of a van , 1 got crushed on a dismantle and 1 got left on site (he did get his P45)
  3. Even though our lads have lost 6 saws and other bits and bobs this year they will still get a cash bonus. Plus we are going tank driving followed by a chinese on friday - because without them we'd be nothing
  4. Wow awesome mate
  5. Gee thanks on the yokel - Merry Christmas
  6. Im with HSBC and have had no real problems to speak of . However when we had a really good year 2 years back we went into see them for a chat about the accounts etc, the lady was charming- She stated "its so nice to see a business that we can help , we havent had many of those lately" I said" what do you mean?" Bank " Well do you want to increase your borrowing etc" I asked "would you be offering us this if we'd had a bad year and really needed help?" Bank "No" As stated none of them are here to help
  7. We were scratching our heads with this as well, originally we thought they were a quarter of a cube so priced accordingley. Then we emptied wood from a cubic bag into them as there seemed to be alot of wood going into them off the processor and found we could only fill 3 barrow bags from a cube - we now charge £25 (based on it being a third of a cube)
  8. Because im just a yocal sitting on my arse
  9. Dont want to get into an argument pal but i dont sit on my arse i PAY for advertising through local papers, magazines and have a bloody good website with paypal attached - so dont assume you know me. What you can assume is "the honest bloke " is a complete numpty who tries to do treework in the summer with no qualifications - would you really put up with him in your town - NO! Sorry mate but after doing HND in Arb , Ignite courses and over 25 years experience in forestry and tree surgery i dont really consider myself a yocal either- busy yes (jealous are we) fool - perhaps as ive just wasted time from my life answering your post:thumbdown:
  10. :thumbup:Only 1 week left to the big day which is the best xmas song - come on weve all got our favourite The Pogues & the Fairytale of New York is mine
  11. I started selling logs before i could drive some 25 years ago and to be fair around me there has only been 2 or 3 merchants selling firewood , but in the last couple of years we have been flooded with new have a go Harrys trying to undercut us. The worst was the most recent one who smothered the area with signs "seasoned harwood logs from £50 a load" - my mate phoned them and its a builders bag of softwood for £50 and £60 for hardwood which if were in a cubic metre bag wouldnt be far of our prices - so the answer to the problem - take down all his signs - though he phoned my mate who took them down and threatened him with GBH - perhaps they steel bronze war plaques at the weekend !!

  19. This happened to my wife few years back when they smashed the rear windscreen whilst the baby was in the back. We had exactly the same battle until i pointed out that the stihl strimmers they were using should not be used within 10 metres of anything (all in the handbook) they soon backed down and payed up - didnt want to replace all their strimmers.

  22. Couldnt agree more - ive been selling for 25 years approx and ive never seen so many selling utter crap for beer money , weve got one local whose put up boards all over south derbyshire advertising for £50 per load ! ive got approx 250 tons of 18 month seasoned hardwood which i cant shift- best weve ever had and its just sitting there , ive also got 2 ex employees who have set up in competition trying to undercut me. I can only hope they are all selling as little as we are and will soon get board and move on to some other get rich quick scheme!!
