  12. For the small amount of domestic quotes I do I weed out the time wasters. Anyone who states they are shopping around for quotes I don't bother with unless it's a large job where our bigger kit can be more efficient and quote beating I can usually give a estimate over the phone, by asking the right questions, species, size (in easily measures unit ie. taller then house/bus/sky scrapper etc) Access, can I park under it? Are you going to complain if I bend your Daisy's, is there a green house under it. Are you a pain in the bum to deal with. Using that I can give a estimate, if that sounds acceptable I go quote. Sometimes people want to be romanced which you can do down phone, some people have nothing better to do and feel empowered getting quotes but I think most people want a rough price with little fuss to know if they can afford it.
  13. Bang on, I reckon brash dragging / gnome dodging is like being in a North Korean prison camp serving hard labour

  16. I spent years with crap groundes, I them got a great one who is now a climber/foreman who I have invested in a lot. Tickets towing mewp etc. Because of this I have more time to peruse decent work, Now we have great jobs with little domestic or dragging, great kit, lorries and chippers and we have a good reputation. Lads are beating at the door for work. I also don't really consider some lads climbers some groundes we can all climb at different skill levels and usually the least skilled guy climbs so we can all improve. I like to think were all tree guys in it together.

  23. Well bolts, had this happen today, the bolt sheared right off and left only one. luckily I wasn't going far and not tearing down a bouncy country lane. Was towing 3 tonnes worth of digger and trailer. Does anyone think that having the drop plate on the lowest setting could be a contributing factor?
