did a big macrocarpa last year, 4.5k over 4 days (on reflection it was too cheap) Me climbing and 4 guys on the ground, chipping into a grain trailer with added greedy boards. It was in the village of Zeal Monochorum (Mid Devon) try pronouncing that one! The whole village was glad to see it gone as it dominated the views from the village and despite the fact it not outgrown its location it was a bit on an eyesore. The best and easiest '1 dayer' was a few months ago where a willow had shifted and heaved its root plate, it was about 40' tall and i deemed it a smaller sized medium tree. I asked @john p to send his MEWP and driver down to help me out although i reckon it was safe to climb but i opted to play it safe and used the MEWP to justify the 3.5k price tag. There was me in the bucket and 2 of my groundies working alongside Johns driver on the ground. We were onsite for 9am, started cutting after 10 am and finished up by 3.30pm, it was an easy day and easy money. I could do with a few more like that!

@woodwizzard I tried the 50cc Makita/Dolmar and was amazed at well the AV worked, very smooth saw.

those 340's and 350's are amazing ickle saws, i too own a 353 which is even better in my onion as i like the quick release carb/enjun cover over the screw down type.

well you and Al Cormack are not a million miles away from each udder and he appears busy too and was looking for another climber. If i had a camper van i'd be up that way to sub to You or Him for a few weeks to tide me over. My wife is making me do tings in the garden and tidy the garage ffs.

i hate it when it's drizzley outside and me hedges need trimming and i need to do some strimming but can't be arsed to get dressed....

well i did only 2 days work in May! June so far is a mere trickle with bits and bobs and the odd enquiry / quote. I have even done some general handyman type of jobs like replacing fence posts/panels etc. Hope it picks up soon as i'm getting ready to spend a few k on having me driveway concreted 6 inches deep and a new 22'x13' concrete shed base poured in readiness for more storage space for motorbikes, chipper, cakes etc. Ya can't have enough shed space! Once Alexei Sayle gets in as PM and we start building gulags and opening some salt mines we'll all get busier...

thas a lot of concentration right there! I reckon that kind of sketchy work is safe to do but the brain power and energy used just to carefully work it all out and execute each cut so the 'big game of Jenga' doesn't go badly wrong is immense. @Al Cormack this video above is very very similar to that job i did for Jon manning up in Somerset a few months ago (yes the one where i was moaning about pricing it badly and not having brought in a crane or MEWP!) I followed the same procedure but only put a gob cut into the Lime tree that was supporting the other failed one and then i used my Tirfor to fell/pull the 'holding tree' 90 degrees to the side. It worked perfectly and it was a very wet but exciting day out in a neighbouring county.

I bought a new one less than 18 months ago it is a nice machine with some nice features and 'it does the job'. It is very economical to run (i am not bothered about fuel economy though). However i have used much better 6'' machines and the Quadchip doesn't exactly impress me that much therefore if i was buying again i'd probably buy a Timberwolf 230 diesel (although that machine does not have the turntable feature) as they are much more aggressive and hungry. I have had a couple of issues since buying it, one issue was not sorted out properly under warranty and it ended up costing me money to have it fixed, the other issue was very minor and was dealt with just fine. It has corrosion issues on the underside of the infeed hopper which i will talk to GM about next week. Overall it'll be fine for most of what you are doing i guess, but i find the infeed weak compared to the likes of Forst, TW, etc.
