  1. I just bought a 135, for logging. Its a sound saw. Solid and well built.
  2. For the last 5 months i have been working on the books for the nhs, doing maintainance work. I only earn 14500 per year. Before taking on this work i was taking home 400 per week for 18 mths working on sites. However, to earn my 400 pw, i was doing minimum 3hrs travel per day, using £80 - £100 pw fuel, using my own vehicle etc and being knackard all the time. Now, i travel 15mins each way to work, then use company vehicle, use £20 per week fuel, really enjoy going to work, and really enjoy spending more time at home with the family and doing what i want. So although i have less money in my wage packet ( and yes it is tight ), it is possible to live on a low wage. But if you take away the £100 fuel i was using, time spent traveling, wear and tear on vehicle etc, in real terms i am not that much less off than when i was taking home £400 per wk. Yes i wish i was earning more, but the reality is, not many employers are throwing money about in wages. I am happy in my work and that means a lot to me. It is not always about the money, but about the conditions.
  3. Stunning !, just shows how sometimes even the simplist of designs can look good. Good work. Can we see them hung ?
  4. who are soneva ? I have never heard of them.
  5. I'm thinking about the echo pole pruner at the minute, either that or the hitachi/tanaka one. Dont think makita do one.
  6. Well i've never been a fan of stihl, so their kombi outfit is out of the equation. I quite like the look of the echo stuff. But as some one pointed out, if the engine goes, i'm stuffed. So i might as well just save up and buy each individual piece of kit. Pole pruner and hedge cutters first.
  7. I'd charge approx £70, dependant on travel etc.
  8. Cheers rebel, yes i can watch fine direct on youtube as well, just not on the posted video.

  15. Well, i'm sorry but even after speaking to a few people and reading various articles, i'm still confused and bemused about it all. I understand the old lantra / nptc training and certification. But the new style lantra training and qualifications is still bemusing.
  16. I have just been looking for training in the new year for a basic course. Am i reading it right in that the lantra course now offers full qualification as well. What is the skills card thay are also saying you get. The course i'm after is the cs30/31 or equivalent.
  17. Can you please put some pictures up of the milling process, and of the timber cut to size.
  18. I have one of the new makita EA saws, and i'm well satisfied. A 7901 is on my list for my mill next.
  19. a few years ago, when working on a building site, i got so fed up with people unplugging my extension cable and / or nicking it, in a fit of rage i grabbed my axe and chopped the ends of every single lead i could find. everyone got slightly miffed with me, but they didnt bother me again, especially if i had my axe with me.
  20. as above, get a moisture meter, and you need to stack your wood off the floor to help air circulation. Just get a couple of palletts to stack your wood on for now. For future reference, you could do with making a proper log store. there are plenty of threads on here about them in the firewood threads.
  21. Hi, what is the best method to kill off ivy. On my bit of land i have 2 tallish trees that are being slowly killed due to being swamped by ivy. If you need pics i can post them tomoro. The trees are roughly 60 feet tall if not more and the ivy has reached the very top. I inherited this mess when we bought the land.
  22. Hi, just wondered what the general opinion is on these so called flat pack tractors, and any other cheap n chearfull imports.
