  1. Thanks Its alder. I had planned to use wood I'd cut myself or salvaged but I'm too impatient to season it!!! I ordered a box of bowl blanks, mostly alder some sycamore and one lime. It came to £20 delivered with eleven blanks 4" which seemed reasonable to get me started.
  2. My first serious attempt at a bowl. I need to learn how to sharpen my tools better. Still, I learnt alot and had fun doing it.
  3. I use map my walk. It tracks accurately enough and shows you distance, elevation, pace/elevation aswell as an estimate of calories. I've also been looking for a way to pinpoint features in woodland and fields so will give the other app a try thanks.
  4. I've seen it before on birch stumps. I think the sap is very sugary (birch wine is on my list of things to make) so always assumed it was a good food source for moulds.
  5. I worked with a seventeen year old lad who used to get caught sneaking out of a hedge when someone walked into a field, still sorting out his trousers with a sheepish look. The strangest time was when the old live in security guard caught him one night pleasuring himself on top of the muck heap!!!
  6. ....and occupying a table that a more lucrative customer could be using. If that's all she ordered the price is fair, as an addition to an order it probably is steep.
  7. Definately the best. I must have watched it ten or more times, normally to a cry of "Urgh not this one again!!!!".
  8. Lucky anyone found him with that cammo paint job
  9. If it has the Queen's head on its mine. My most interesting find. Makes a nice paperweight.
  10. Pissed and ate firelighters with salsa?

Could you name the apps please. I'd like to do some mapping but struggled to find a good/free one. Thanks
  12. My girlfriend and I do this fortnightly, start off with a mince base cram it with peppers tomatoes then split and turn it into chilli and bolegnase. Saves having to cook (and wash up everything) everynight. Defrosts easily and freely on the woodburner. Also I make a great curry all by myself
  13. I use up to half inch dia at home to bulk up the wood pile. Its a bit of faff to do (keep saying ill make pimps for personal use but thats even more faff) but if its seasoned its good kindling and chuck a handfull on in between logs.
  14. Sodding mice have chewed the filler cap to get to Bio Oil, luckily it doesn't leak yet. Off to the dealer I go.
  15. I heard recently a story about a poor little boy with a terrible addiction to raffle tickets, his bedroom is literally full of them. Doctors think he may have contracted tombola.
  16. Rigger boots although they do fill with crap if tuck your trousers in. Also a pair of work trousers (aldi i think for a tenner but screwfix toolstation etc have them) with knee pad inserts.
  17. I haven't lost any big tools yet but my brother in law broke my rubber mallet, small and large claw hammers, left my pristine (and first after borrowing my dads for years) crowbar out in the rain. He borrowed the post driver and left it in the field when he said he'd returned it to the house so I bought another one and then he found it so I now have two. All that and I only agreed to lend him the rubber mallet no wonder he stopped asking ffs.
  18. In an argument what is the difference between a woman and a knife? The knife has a point!!!! Sent from my GT-I9505 using Arbtalk mobile app

  20. Hi, I did some labouring about three years ago and got a green site operative card. It was just a 40 question multiple choice test all common sense, mostly health and saftey basics, although I did get the book for about a fiver. I cant imagine its changed much for a labourer. Hope this helps.
  21. Nothing too technical just a beef stew with potatoes (7.5kg for a paaand as went out of date next day....a week ago but still ok and I'm not sick of chips, wedges or baked yet) onions, carrots and peas. The most I've managed before was soup, baked beans and water for washing up or hot water bottles. Now I need a trivet and some ham as that sounds good.
  22. Surely Czech Republic is more Hostel than Deliverance? A more favourable sex scene before your death anyway.
  23. I had problems with one of the first saws when they came out. I had similar problems, wouldnt start or idle after running a bit unless the half choke was on. I went through about six needle bearings some almost instantly even after greasing. I took it to another dealer as the one I bought it from didnt impress me, and they sent it back to Stihl for a new crank (old one had dished) new sprocket and new updated carb.
  24. Just bought a 14.4 v dewalt combi drill and impact driver set from screwfix for 200. The reviews look great and I'm happy so far. I thought 14 volt might be a bit wimpy but its enough for the jobs I need. Its Lithium ion 14.4 v and 1.5ah with two batteries and charger. Some of the reviews say 1.5ah is not great but you can get after or opt for the beefier 4 for longer life? The impact driver whips 8inch timber lock? (The hex screws used for decking, sleepers etc not sure of the name) screws out in seconds, something my old bosch 24v struggled with. Also comes in a proppa mans case
