  1. +1 for David at ESUS Forestry. Excellent instructor and all round top guy. Did my cs30/31 (4/4 passed the cs30 and one guy messed up his felling). I went back for a week long Coppice harvesting course and then a woodland managment planning one with him and his business partner. I cant praise them enough. Makes good coffee too Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  2. Thanks for the offer Rich but if its simple enough Ill have a go. Vaugely remember being shown on my cs30 and Ill have another read of the workshop manual Might research the updated clutch and see if its worth swapping the whole thing. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  3. My 261 ( first batch boo hiss!!) pinged a spring today and I was wondering how easy/hard they are to change for an amateur? I heard a clunk and then the saw cut out. Also melted the stupid plastic needle bearing ffs. James
  4. Horrendous. Good tip about the pumice stone though, Im off to boots tomorrow James
  5. Maybe his laptop BATTERy died James

  9. It was working fine for me on the mrs' laptop but then froze just before 730,! James
  10. Bit more of a slow "creeaaakkkk" than a kipper-bang, for now anyway. James
  11. My ms261 is called sawcha (missus is called Sorcha). Sent from my GT-P5110 using Tapatalk 2
  12. +1 for tapatalk. Also pocket, use it to save articles and web pages for offline reading. Dropbox, need a free pc install to share and back up your documents, I use it for my cv and other things I need to send out on a regular basis when Im not at home. Google maps obviously but I guess thats preinstalled. I got all these from Google Play for free, tapatalk and pocket had a paid upgrade i think for more features. James
  13. Iirc warm (maybe just hot?) water freezes faster than cold due to fluid convection. Im not sure what the threshold is. A friend was adamant that a kettle or two in her horses water bath would keep it from freezing. The small poly tunnel and straw/similar insulation sound like good ideas to me. James
  14. Ha ha sounds familiar, "come down to the woods with me to sort out the firewood for OUR house. Its exercise and spending quality time together" We are nearly through one shelter (2mx2mx1m) already and have three and a bit left. The stoves are 8kw and 5kw with the big one burning 6am to10ish then 5ish to bedtime and the smaller just in the evening. James
  15. You have to register with the charity to pay and then put arbtalk username in the box when prompted. I did it last year and it didnt take long as I remember. James
  16. Ditto. Mind you if its free and flashy I could manage. James
  17. 29 sloth! Ive got to wait till christmas too as shes bought it already so I cant even buy it myself!!!! James
  18. Scott Fraser assessed me for my 30/31. Nice guy, knowledgeable, been meaning to do his climbing course for a while now but the money/time monster has reared its ugly head. James
  19. Ditto, much more interesting although I always like watching muppets. James
  20. Surely 2cubic metres is 2 x 1m3(one cubic metre) 2metres cubed IS 2mx2mx2m its all about the order. James
  21. My silky has bitten me a few times on the way back from my parents woods. I always wear gloves when using my saw down there but normally see "just a small" branch on the way back to the house so go at it gloveless. James
  22. Bike innertube and a froe. James
  23. The local Hedgelaying group quoted us £5/m with students doing it (and they were going to charge me full price for a days training!!!!!) so a pro could charge more than that including stakes and binders etc. James
  24. Someone needs to tell the toads near me that just because there's a toad crossing sign doesn't mean they dont need to look, listen then look again before hopping out. Those zebras are ok to juat go though! James
  25. Thats brilliant. Love the surface and riverbed idea. How long did it take? James
