Been out for the day, Shotley Bridge to Bingley so joined the A1 near Darlington and a lot of the way down until we turned off at junction 61 there were trees being taken down and huge plies of chip. Saw a tractor with a grain trailer full of stems but how many 100s of tons have been felled and chipped??? And why, what's the plan??

You're right, you can sell it by weight or volume, but I have read on a number of websites that due to the moisture content of wood, it is not permissible to sell firewood by weight. -

It is my understanding that under UK law, you cannot sell firewood by weight so I would be very careful if I was you -
My friends dad fills a carrier bag with bark, sawdust and chippings that accumulate around my log pile, puts a few logs on top and sets fire to the bag - reckons it's great.

Thank you for the comments men. I now understand whilst they are valid for life, any employer should see it as prudent to encourage the holder to undertake refresher training.

An aquaintance did all his chainsaw training many years ago and qualified under the old blue book scheme. He has not worked int he industry for some time and his present employer wishes him to do some chainsaw work around the property but only if he is still qualified. They cannot see an expiry on the blue book and were wondering if it was still valid for him to use a chainsaw and if he had an accident. Any ideas?

Well, tonight under wine conditions, we proved an urban myth - that Doritos can be used as a firelighter. First we used an Aldi tortilla chip and whilst the corner did light, the flame was small and quickly went out. The Dorito tortilla chip however, burned with a much larger, stronger flame and burnt the whole chip!! Wonder if I should start offering a bag of Doritos with every load of logs!!

My normal logs are 9.5 inches approx but I also do 7", 15" and half a metre ones for clients.

Don't know if its been mentioned before but being able to save a post in your own favourites section would be useful so if you find something of interest, you could save it and then be able to refer back to it when ever you need to. -
From my experience in 2012 - no discount!! Kesla was our front runner but we ended up with a Vreten, primarily because the dealer is only 30 mins away as opposed to a couple of hours. The crane has proved to be excellent, possibly too good for the trailer.

Also think part of the problem could also be you have put up the building first before approaching them. Reading the above article it would appear you may have got away with permitted development but you would have had to have put in notice before building.

My mates wife has a Rover 214 with 230,000 miles on. Its on its original clutch! Just bought a three year old Fiesta to replace it as wiring is playing up.

Whilst the video is very impressive, the product does not look so good. A lot of the "logs" look very thin, surprising for America as they usually like big ole chunky things!
