  1. Got my new purchase (the International) back from local Mr Fixit - new oil in rear axle, new hydraulic filter, new fuel filters, new air filter (one we took out had an International Harvester label so was probably original!!), new seals on fuel pump, new seals on PAS, second hand drop arm on 3 point linkage fitted, wheel bearings tightened up, stop cable fitted. Winch put on and now in the woods to assist with felling. Engine is sounding better all the time now it's actually working for a living, think it must have stood idle for a long time.
  2. I've just checked - the one I put pics up of is a stretched version and is up for grabs at $470,987!!!! They do have a used one with nearly 48k miles on for $149,000.
  3. TractorData.com Massey Ferguson 35 tractor information
  4. If my numbers were to come up I think I would be ordering one of these. They are made by a company called Earthroamer in USA.
  5. Flags of Our Fathers is an excellent book if you like personal testimonies of WW2 and To The Last Round is very good too - about the epic British stand on the Imjin River during the Korean War
  6. Thwaites Goliath Timber Forestry Crane | eBay
  7. It does sound lovely. Only got about 3000 hours so should be good for a while yet!!
  8. Michelin XL 9.00R16 Tyre Land Rover 101 Forward Control Volvo C303 900x16 900-16 | eBay Should always look at ebay!!! Pricey though!!
  9. Don't think they have been made for a long time now. Certainly do not see them on many military vehicles or advertised through any tyre specialists in off road mags. Best bet would be to try ex military dealers, especially for that size. 1 x Michelin XL 9.00 R16 Tyre - MOD Sales, Military Vehicles & Used Ex MOD Land Rovers for Sale Withams did have some. Try LW Vass as well.

  11. Would it not be far simpler to scrap red diesel and just have white. Then those that are legitimate users put a claim in every quarter for a refund. Revenue for the government would go up and assist the economy.
  12. If you click on the link in the guys signature, Orionheating.co.uk, it takes you to their website but I cannot find the snatch blocks.
  13. Be aware Aviva will not cover you if you make any sort of deliveries. And the last time I tried NFU, they said they would refer to the underwriters and comeback to me in 48 hours time - which I found unacceptable in this modern day and age!
  14. Yup, certainly would Jon. About 160hp. It's a great classic but unfortunately it may be on its way as we need something smaller for working in the woods.

  16. No, people are just being realistic with you. If you are starting from scratch, buying a site, processor, tractors, fork lifts, delivery vehicles, etc etc you are looking at a massive capital investment. After nearly five years in the game I'm thinking of getting out of it as every year hardwood round wood is becoming more difficult to source and more expensive. Also, I feel you don't actually make your money in firewood until the day you decide to pack it in - ie, you will then be able to stop buying stock and just concentrate on selling what you have got. When talking to people about output of processors I would take what you hear with a pinch of salt as well.
  17. Yes, I remember having this argument with a few companies last year. I do not take any payment in advance and until I have driven to the customers property, chucked the logs on their drive and they have given me the money, they are still my logs. A google search revealed for hire or reward should apply to taxi drivers who are moving people.
  18. Well, it's that time of year again - insurance due on my 2007 Ranger. Been with Direct Line last three years who have been good but you always want to shop around to see if you can save money don't you?? I remember last year a number of the normal companies said as I was delivering firewood I needed insurance for hire or reward and they would not cover. A number of people on here have mentioned Aviva but when I did an online quote, I got so far and it said if you delivered goods you had to ring them. Has anybody come across this before? My renewal quote from Diretc Line is £652 with legal protection, rescue and guaranteed hire car.
  19. Yeah, it does have a rather comical look to it:biggrin:
  20. Some big machines at the Corbirdge show. A MF 4840 produced between 1978-83 with a 14.8litre 8cyclinder engine pushing out 265hp and a John Deere 7520 from 1972-75 with a 8.7litre 6 cyclinder developing 160hp.
  21. County Tractors were taken over in 1987 by the Benson Group, who among other holdings were the importer for Valmet. It is believed they only produced a further 150 tractors before production ceased in 1990. Apparently one of the biggest problems was sourcing cabs to comply with UK legislation and a number of the vehicles were finished in Bensons red livery rather than the traditional County blue. Later, in the mid 90s, SEM Engineering of Essex aquired the rights from Benson and managed to produce a number of tractors for export before going in to receivership in 1995. The full batch of 10 were finally completed in July 95 and exported to Canada, St Helena and the Falkands. Ther is a good book available - County:4WD Pulling Power, worth seeking it out.
  22. Just remember the golden rules of buying a Freelander: firstly, never buy a petrol one; secondly, always obey the first rule! I ran a TD4 for three years and loved it, great around town, extremely comfortable, quite capable off road (pulled through mud ruts at Lowther show when it was a mud bath, unlike the 110 infront that was skating all over the place), surprising what you can get in the back. Only problem I had was fuel pump packed up at 48000 miles and Land Rover were not bothered - it's a common problem apparently. And you rarely see a rusty one!
  23. Why won't your biomass guy take it?? My mate who supplies biomass chip only uses softwood. As others have said, log it up and sell it.
