Conifer hedge reductions are a shitty job esp the big ones.... you get in the middle and go ffs why am i here.... you just have to crack on and get to the end of it. I learnt years ago the more you winge about a task the less gets done. Crack on and get it finished.

There is always folk that will not be happy with the task at hand and always think there are better ways. The owner of the company will most likely have a lot more experience than said staff and will have assessed the best way to do the job, access requirements and time to do the works. Sometimes a bollock can be dropped. You cannot inspect every inch of the hedge and take it as it is what it is.... If you have to bang a ladder in the side to get it done just do it..... a hedge like that will be quite wide so in places the ladder going into the hedge is gna help you reach the back. One other thing is to put a plank accross top of ladder also to stop it sinking in. I've surfed many a wobbly fat wide beech hedge on top with 2 ladders lol cutting off one, going to another and so on. This was just for trimming purposes though. Mewps for this are a pita.... and costly. cutting with a gypsy stick then fishing the bits out is shit on the arms and ages to fish stuff out and generally leave crap in there. scaffold? no thanks. The lads did a good job by the looks of it but sour milk comes to mind with this post working ontop of a ladder against hse and I'm on a day rate for employer only.... Sorry just how i see it. Lads did good in the time they were there! good finish and from pics 3 days looked good. Just unfortunate for them it was whispy in places

Hi everyone, Just thought I'd post on here if anyone has a bigger old stump grinder knocking about even if it needs some work that they would be willing to sell? Currently running 252 vermeer so want something with more hp and punch and speed and weight! Looking for least 35hp plus, even a towable one etc bigger the better. I know what you mean about engines etc! All crappy sensors and electrics etc! My engines getting worn on this as its knocking non and bought it second hand. Considered a swap for another unit but may end up just a top end rebuild on this at some point. Love the simplicity of air cooled, first I've ever had. Currently there's not masses of second hand machines about and prices are strong. Saw a bandit 90 recently 2016 600 hrs.... so will have some electricity with it and sensors etc.... it weighed 450 kg more than mine! And was 27k plus vat strong money for me personally. It'll not do the job 20k better than mine. Can't go back anyhow to little chippers so the old git be here to stay or swapped for another big dinosaur at some point lol 😆 Never seem drum chippers etc so far in flesh. No one round here has one and no body talks to each other. Looking forwards to the Apf to open up my eyes as to what I've been missing out on for years lol 😆

I can see insurance point but typical twats wi going about us just getting on with job.... long as all the bullshit in the method statement and risk ass then surely covered? They only really ask about hazardous sites and motorways.... Should people inform them whe they do a crane job? Bet its via dragging branches etc, door frames, front if internal doors, maybe wallpapered or painted etc..... I've done a few through the house removals and they are a ball ache.... I clearly state on quote that the customer is responsible for sheeting up and making sure all is covered to their satisfaction..... and make them realise the volume of material that needs to come through the house.

It's quite old and getting worn in a few areas so was wondering what there was for reasonable value out there.... this machine would be worth throwing a few k at easily but seeing what's what. I may end up having to do so yet. Still usable and out every day though

For me and my business model i figured out ages ago that these little stumps and crap access jobs were not worth doing..... I specifically bought a small machine (bandit hb20n) for them and it was a pita! Was not really a money earner for me. Sold it on. I've run an old vermeer 252 for years and if I can't get in I'm not bothered.... and some of the jobs where you needed a small grinder, I was thankful I couldn't get in! Good luck in your search

Hi there, Can anyone enlighten me as to other chippers out there, equivalent and or next size up etc from the bandit 90? Trying to see if I continue with said machine or go for a slight upgrade within reason! I like second hand and don't have the need for the latest model etc happy with old but usable.... Also if anyone knows the weight of these? Trying to find the balance between size production and weight. Think current bandit 90 is approx 1950kg so not bad for what it is. Currently has a decent sized roller box though hopper is quite small.i think! But the top roller open and crush is great. Many thanks

A little side to side play on the turbo fin is OK as long as it's minimal 1mm or so... in and out on the shaft is a no no ! Take air intake off at turbo and with engine off, get fingers in there for a feel lol 😆

Yup and for tensioning speed lines etc.... have used porta wrap off front of tractor before today when no other anchor point.... they do have there uses Proper rigging don't piss about get a stein rc3001 and above

I'm glad I keep away from these type works.... I dont work for construction firms or partake in cis scheme thank fully. I'm rural based, agri forestry conservation and safety works more than clear fell site works. It's a shame I'll forget all this if I'm ever pulled lol 😆

Yes... I did type something to reply to Eddie but cancelled it. It was more about chicken and egg scenarios.... What was land registered as before? Industrial or agri green belt....? If industrial then yes maybe have to use White? If agri then no red.... Like you say its no site or development till we've been in. First on the scene like you say.

At the end of the day timber from site is a virgin item.... its not a product or anything till processed and dried which is industrial process..... Same with chip.... it is not a product till it has either rotted down or been dried to be used as biomass.... Both items high moisture content and fit for nowt before industrial process....

Is no one of the opinion that at the end of the day we should be classified by the government and allowed to run on red diesel? At the end of the day, trees are part of the landscape in towns, cities and the country side. They all need maintenance to be kept in safe condition. Forests need thinning and felling for production of timber etc. We are a necessity of an industry in my opinion. Trees are a big part of our life and to exist and we need to be here to maintain them. Surely we should be addressed by the government etc.... It's same bollox if you want to put up a building at your yard.... what are you classified as? Why doesn't the un appointed Arb Association have a look into this classification? Or too busy buggeringnus up with more rules and ropes... ffs. This industry is hard enough as it is.... Country's ****************ed and kick one we all limp most industries overlap in one way or another

In all fairness I'm not taking it somewhere to sell straight on etc or from that specific journey.... no profit is made from said journey it is just clearing a site of said timber so then invoice can get put in. I dont even care for the timber but if it's not gone no job. Better for me to do it as a qualified person than a farmer. This is materials / wood / Virgin chip of which I have a waste carrier's license for. It is taken back to yard to be stored . Timber is in lengths and not rings asin processed for anything. If this doesn't fall under agri and forestry I'll platt sawdust. The ea even give an exemption for storing said woodchip and timber on agricultural land. So the arriving if you will are being removed from one farm / agricultural place to another farm within a 15mile radius..... I'm still saying red for me. I'm not carting shit off domestics in dump trailers or any of that carry on.
