  1. One of my mates managed to get hold of a load of blanks from an army range some how, not sure what they were for but they were finger sized and on a belt the kind you see worn over the shoulder in the films, we contemplated hitting them with a hammer but as this was obviously a Bad idea we decided to get the hacksaw out to get at the powder inside. After several minutes we were bored and decided it was time to get the matches out the result being one finger with a flap of skin hanging off, tittinus and gunpowder burns. Probably not too bad really.
  2. Where did you find an adder in Epsom?
  3. I think it's cheaper for them to repair the odd one that gets damaged than it is to bury them all 30cm or so under them ground so they're not bothered.
  4. goat willow
  5. Glad to see it go to a good home. Did you get any pics, so I can see what I'm missing out on ?
  6. My highly valuable walnut log helped pay for a day at peppa pig world today thanks very much.
  7. Ailanthus?
  8. Ta. We're back in a few months so will have another look, see if any things progressed, it all felt solid and healthy if that means anything, just thought the flat patch and black stuff might mean something
  9. Yes but what number?
  10. Wish I paid more attention now, pretty sure it was fluid and the tree's not in leaf yet but nothing was untoward when it was surveyed a year or so ago
  11. Thanks. Most helpful
  12. Does look a bit like oil tbh, Tiny pinhead size holes in the bark, not sure how close up the phone camera will go, prob should have thought of that. Didn't know if the flat section indicated anything
  13. Anyone?
  14. Any one help with this ? It's at about 1.5m on a syc heavily weighted to the left and the section of stem it's on is noticeably flat.
  15. Go on give us a pic.
  16. I just need to keep everyone warm not cook em.
  17. Handol 51l here rated at 3-7 kW takes a 35cm log i think It's the nuts
  18. I say prune it back as hard as possible while still maintaining a decent shape, it's only going to get bigger and if you start a decent pruning schedule now it'll be easier to maintain in the future. Your neighbours unlikely to prune it himself by the sound of things best get it done now to keep size of cuts small
  19. So do the contractors amongst us when they get called out to quote/advise in these situations turn the work down if the client insists on cutting back to boundary? Or do you crack on in the knowledge that if you don't do it someone else will take the coin and possibly leave the tree in a worse state than you would have. How many can honestly say they refuse to remove healthy trees with potential on moral/environmental grounds?
  20. Think he's only mentioned scaffold because tree owner didn't want him on his land, they've got to be safer than at the top of 12 rung skymasters doing a cut back as I've done before (yeeeha).
  21. Not sure it looks right for Portuguese laurel either. (Prunus lusitanica)
  22. In instances like this I don't think you can expect the general public to recognise tree species and know their potential size when buying a house, not sure where the op is but I see many trees planted that just aren't suitable for a 20m suburban garden There is the access to neighbouring land act if it's needed to climb the tree, never used it but it's there for these instances I believe.
  23. What are your rates I'm very local and get the odd bit I fancy getting milled.
  24. The breeder I get my hens from traps 30 or so a year and dispatches them with an air gun shot directly into the ear, I did question whether they were powerful enough but no problems apparently.
