  1. Where you thinking of going?
  2. I've got a week in the Galloway hills followed by two weeks in the west highlands in February! If I don't get any snow then it will have to be Alaska!
  3. So have any of you bought the Protos. Thinking of buying one for myself only because I seem to have a different hat for different jobs. I want one lid for use on the ground and in the air. Just want to know if it's light enough to wear all day and tough enough to take the knocks a good day in woods would give it. Any comments before I part with my cash would be appreciated. My biggest concern is getting the right colour to suit my outfit.
  4. I opted to install a reed bed sewage system and a large wildlife pond for all the rainwater. My sewage effluent gets pumped into a series of reed beds then empties into a soak away surrounded buy trees. It's never let us down although a pumps have failed.
  5. I carry a little air pistol (6ft lbs) when ever I let my birds out or in the wood shed. As long as your quick a good shot and close you'll get them every time.
  6. This my bear in her winter coat.
  7. Try Tin Mitch on eBay, he's the chap in Gloucestershire, sometimes he has some very good quality sheets, had thirty green 10ft sheets of him last summer. Good price.
  8. Nick, can you send me your number and I'll pass it on. In fact I could do with picking your brains myself.
  9. I think he's looking for it fairly soon
  10. Been using my Corvid trap. I sow patches of wild bird seed and find this time if year the squirrels leave the wood to raid the hedgerows and forage the crop. Put the trap out with rabbit food in and you get them every time. Nine this week! The smaller birds just perch on the sticks but the squirrel jumps in and you got him.
  11. I had a call today asking for a load of softwood cord. Chap got my details from Forestry Commission Wales, unfortunately for some reason they seem to have forgotten to supply us timber fellers, can anyone supply an artic load to Cleavden? He will process the timber himself. Cheers
  12. I use a bundled water tank that's been lagged, empty the water out of there drinking bowls when we lock them up and fill in the morning. I know it's a balls ache and adds a few extra minutes to the morning routine. In the hardest part of the winter we keep a blow lamp next to the tank incase the tap freezes.
  13. Shame that Steve, I like tap talk simply because it's so easy to add a picture. Will the new version be the same?
  14. Grey's have a massive impact on woodland wildlife, raiding birds nests, feeding on dormice and even raiding bat roosts. Shoot to kill or just slug it out in a tree.
  15. Well I've just the read the reasons why you should buy enough ration packs to last a six month. I've now re-evaluated my options and have decided simply to invade and hold my local super market. I'm going to sign up a local gorilla group.
  16. Well seems the world is gonna end on the 21st I wouldn't worry about it. But as a precaution, we have 5,000lt of water stored, diesel and firewood. We're not on mains sewage or gas and generate our own power. Chickens and geese and the national reserve of beer and pasta. Two semi automatics and enough ammo to start a war! What's more we got squirrels the size of bears to eat!
  17. Nice load there, out of interest how many cubic meters would be on there, 38/40/42? Trying to work out how many cubic meters of cordwood, not processed, one would get on ones lorry.
  18. Ash, I'm writing to Forestry Commission this week about the very subject, either they can supply or they must lease us woodland areas to allow us to extract an agreed amount. A joint letter to WFW about the subject wouldn't go amiss, but there again the chair runs a big firewood company just over the border!
  19. Ash, I'll give you ring in the week!
  20. With the weather being so important to us all I think you should have a special forecasting page on Arbtalk.
  21. Jon hope they are using big bales, there's a whole lot of water on its way to you. If look "waterset" on the map your on red alert. Take your timber and build an ark!
  22. Some dark ally?
  23. Hi Silks, based near Chepstow. I've given Aeron first offer so I'll let you know if its available or not soon.
  24. Aye, but you should see the staff! Never met my sister!
  25. As the post says "free to a good home" unfortunately things didn't go to plan so we still have it. I'm even thinking of cutting it up for scrap!
