  1. 5 years! that's a good shelf life:thumbup1: Its just shy of £700 then with vat at 17.5. Unleaded & 2 stroke Mix is just under £400 for 54ltrs. Is a 200ltr drum free delivery?
  2. How is 50 litres £110.30? So how much would 54 cans cost me? Im a bit confused:confused1: Also another question is what is the shelf life of the product as im thinking 270 litres would last me all year if not a bit more!!
  3. Blimey my local shop is a stockist!!! I may buy a 5l can and see how i get on and see what the price difference is i think the last 5l unleaded can cost me £7 but im thinking if its £11 then that's not too much more.
  4. If the timber is near max width of my mill i'll stick a ladder on top and put a large chog of wood in the middle to keep it still then start cutting. Change sides as i get closer etc. Gives a good overhang and i've had no problems so far. On smaller diameter stuff i will get the mill bar to run at 45 degree ish so it cuts half the logs diameter, return it to level then take the handle end round to finish the cut. Kind of like cross cutting a log.
  5. I can see where Brodie is coming from a bit. Im sure its not suposed to come across as arrogant? I understand he is frustrated that you can earn better money for doing something with less effort and qualifications. In my area a good climber can only really get £100 a day! i can earn £130 per night driving a lorry on weekends! Crazy i know but that's life its not fair. So i run my arb company Monday afternoons-Friday and drive a lorry nights on saturday and sunday. That way im making better money than i could be. You have to do what you've got to do to reach your goals (mine is buying a house outright as quickly as possible). On a plus side for me you never know when you'll need a artic and crane:thumbup1: If you want the money your asking for then im sorry but there is a slim chance you'll get it in this current economic climate. Hope something works out for you.
  6. Sorry i was referring to the bank bit in my quote not shops:blushing: You would of thought after so many posts i would of got the hang of copy and paste:lol:
  7. First thing is good luck, its hard working for yourself.(but worth it!!!) Q1) if the guy your are subbed in for doesn't have employers liability then you will need to have your own PL. (probably best to have it anyway). Q2) Pretty much. Make yourself know 13 years im sure you've made a few contacts. Q3) In Norfolk its more like £100 a day climbing and £80 grounding. Hope this helps
  8. You can still exchange them at the bank etc till the end of the year but shops have the right not to accept them. By law they have change the old note for a new one. Also they phase them out as the notes return to the bank, so as far as im aware there is no date marked X when they become worthless.
  9. The gardener would probably fell it due to Money Fungus:lol:
  10. Lovely bit of kit in the video:thumbup:. Reminded me of the horizontal steam powered saw mill at woodfest.
  11. Greenie revenge --- The chief woman 'Greenie Tree-Hugging Activist', who was responsible for getting horses banned from National parks and forests, was climbing a tree to have a look out over the forest when a Tawny Owl attacked her for invading its nesting site. In a panic to escape, she slid down the tree, getting a great number of splinters lodged in her crotch area. In considerable pain she hurried to the nearest doctor, told him she was an environmentalist and how she got all the splinters. The doctor listened with great patience and then told her to go into the examining room and he would see if he could help her. She waited for 3 hours before the doctor reappeared. Angry, the woman demanded, 'What took you so long?' 'Well...' replied the doctor, '...I had to get permits from the Parks And Wildlife Service; the Wilderness Society and the Department of Conservation and Land Management before I could remove 'old growth timber' from a 'recreational area' . . . I'm sorry, but they all turned me down.'
  12. Ah ha i get it now. Cheers for the swift reply:thumbup1:
  13. worth a punt as no-one else has bidded on it. Wonder if its got a reserve?
  14. Now i maybe missing the point of this program but as you say at the bottom 'It is also exactly what we already do with VTA we look at the size of the tree and the amount of decay (for example) and then decide does it need reducing or not?' Why would you bother investing £150+vat for something you can go hmm well i'll reduce it, to be told you should reduce it by a program?? Personally id prefer to look at a tree get my clause book out give it a wack. If im worried about the decay more than i normally am it would get a picus used on it. Now i would also like to see the legal row if a council uses this type of program and it says its ok then it falls over too. Who gets the blame?? Atleast if its a surveyor/consultant they get the blame. Im not having a dig or anything and its ment as its me not quite understanding your product and how it differs from just a tree condition survey?
  15. Is he over 21? just wondering because you can register for buisness insurance under his name .... T/A (your company) then you just get filled in partners box on the insurance doc. Although i will be honest not harsh! I know people who have done a college course and setup shop, they messed up some beauitful trees and got in a muddle with difficult dismantles because of the lack of experience. IMO experience is the key not cs whatever. If you guys are able to grab work subbying individually or as a pair from a larger company whilst your buisness is in its infancy, i would get some job experience from seasoned climbers. I did and its seen me through better than some but there is always a job thats out to confuse you.

    ms880

The only prob i've heard with the new 880 is if you don't give it a good run in on tick over (2 full tanks worth apparently) they tend to build up too much carbon on the spark plug. Easily fixed by changing it tho. Just what i was told tho, i have an 088 and shes probably 8 years old runs like a dream. Infact i prefer using it to my lighter 395xp.
  17. Public liabilitiy is all you'll need, but if your doing tree work you'll need cs30,31 min as im just sorting out my insurance with trust and they've asked me for proof of cs30,31,38 and 39 and if i have any others i wish to submit. Also it recommended to have 5 million but not essential i ran a 2 million for a while but have put it up to 5 million for council lists.
  18. Me and my mate went and had a look at the carvings on the sunday and we both commented that your carving had a perfect bottom...
  19. I guess i'll try to answer this then:laugh1: Tech cert entry level to being a survey/consultant. It differs imo from the degree because it seemed very keyed up towards writing reports in the main. Buisness wise it allows you to write mortage reports, bs5837 surveys, management plans, condition surverys etc, etc. Just another string to your bow really, allows you to do things some tree companys cannot. Although i have PI insurance for a while and this years was the only time i was asked for proof of relevent qualifications to do this work. Exams wise well you've got 3 papers the hardest is normally paper 3 'the law' i think paper 1 was 'tree physiology' and off the top of my head think paper 2 was 'managment'. Managment day was ident - trees, pest and fungi. 5837 survey, tree conditon survey, woodland survey, with questions relevent to each topic too which made 25% of the overall mark of the unit. May of missed something but it was 5 years ago i did the exams.
  20. Thats magnificent looking!!!
  21. I only wear front protection trousers when milling/ on the deck, not going to cook myself if i dont have to. Used ear plugs under my muffs for a while as i wear glasses instead of a mesh visor and have mentioned once before about the noise that can 'leak' through the seal made by the muffs but was laughed at (on here). I think the only time i wear full PPE in my husq jacket is when using the mini-mill tbh.
  22. Do you think there could be a right to light issue in the future?
  23. Imo name on brands mean very little i todays economic world. Build quality is everything if the pulley had tescos on it and it was made well, hell id use it. Most things are made in the same facotry i.e at isc in this case. Think how many of your clothes are made in china? I think people seem to want to show off there named brands just like a new shiny car? I own a couple of stein labeled product - pre-tension pulley and the single lowering bollard and are over the moon with the build quality and capabilities of these products.
  24. Im doing some work covering as an HGV driver as i lost a few quotes to a local builder who takes trees down for £100 per day as long as he keeps the firewood!!! Nout wrong with doing other things its money in my pocket thats the way i see it.
