  1. I grew up on a farm in the 60s, which had a few romany families staying potato picking, pea picking etc. These people were the salt of the earth you wouldnt find a more honest decent type of people. These people are not pykies, didicoies.or gypos. On the programme they got married in iver church,i worked on the slough arm branch of the grand union canal for 18 years, which runs right next to their caravan sites. (mansion lane). In all those years i never had any trouble or thefts. Your pykies etc are the irish variety. (apologies to the irish)
  2. Think about it, the blokes "bought it for his business",lets face it, you dont buy an 066 for trimming a few bushes etc, he cuts big stuff and knows how to use a saw. so why does it need a new chain after a few hours work? and why paint the bar? My guess is that its done a lot , lot more than a few hours, the paints been worn off the bar and its probably used quite a few chains. I never buy from ebay without trying it first.
  3. We could pay in advance.
  4. Steady big fell! Depends on the price mr bullman.
  5. Just signed up, What a great cause. Like most things in life , the people who do the job are the experts, but the people who run it are ignorant .
  6. I watched the programme, and i was wondering, why dont the small boats collect the fish that the trawlers throw overboard? They could buy it half price and theyd both be happy. But as i live in the county which is farthest from the sea and dont know what the hell im talking about when it comes to the sea the above is probably complete b******s.
  7. Dont know what it is, but thats one hell of a good camera you have.
  8. Good stuff. Does dave boy green know your using his name?
  9. Remember the above and you wont go far wrong.
  10. One wish, well its got to involve cheryl cole, pixie lott & kelly brooke or whats the point of having a wish come true.
  11. I looked at converting my hilux, cheapest quote i could find was £1200. Then i came across "loadhandler" on one of the posts here. Look for "quickest way to unload a pickup". I can unload a pickup full of logs in 10 seconds all for £175
  12. Me- i googled "cordwood for sale" , up came woodlots, then arbtalk, started reading some of the posts and thought it was brilliant, people same minded, experienced and very helpful. Theres guys on here who are part time amateur tree workers all the way to guys with very professional set ups, and everyone seems willing to help each other. Big thanks to the guys who set it up and run it.
  13. Hard to argue with you mate (although somebody will). I started splitting my timber into billets in april, finished & stacked by july. Cut them into logs from september- early november. sold roughly 80 ton, not one customer has complained of them not being dry. Beech, ash, sycamore, birch. Although it may be a different matter in scotland etc.
  14. Times are hard.
  15. SPOT ON!
  16. I had a sore throat for months (doctors, hospital, cancer ward), then a mate of mine whos a heating engineer told me it was the gas central heating drying my throat. He was spot on.
  17. All this talk , but no pics, come on you know you want to.
  18. Google "woodlots" they have quite a bit in the northampton area
  19. Just read an article in the sun about log burners being dangerous to our health, apparently they release a fine dust which can bring on coughs & increase stress on the cardovascular system. They also believe that this dust can reduce our life expectancy by 10 months. Who comes up with this? Fry ups are now good for us according to the media, one week beer is bad for us, the next week its recommended by top doctors . It wont be long that if we want to live past 25 we musnt eat anything, drink anything, dont drive, smoke, watch telly, walk the dog, sleep, laugh etc,etc
  20. Strange , that it goes up in price in winter, or maybe not.
  21. Well said that man. Your understandably worried about losing a customer , but unless he has said that the load was a bit light then i guarantee that hes happy with what hes got , especially as it was dead elm (numro uno). I sell my logs by the hilux load and there is approx 340 logs depending on size for £65. To put your mind at rest go and have a drink with him and get the conversation on to your logs.
  22. Im confused:confused1: On your thread it says "green holly" and you ask about burning green ash. The poem you have quoted is about burning holly. As for burning green ash people tell me its great on log burners, but saying that a customer of mine has burnt green willow on his.
  23. I take it your not taking the russians up on their offer of birch then jon?
  24. any tree that bears a cone is a softwood (so ive always been led to believe)
  25. Going rate in my area is £60-£75 per pick up load (1.2 cubic metres) , think i,ll pass. Mind you this could be a very long winter and a lot of log suppliers could run out before the new year and then it could be name your price. 30 nets per cube x£8 = hmmmmmmmmmmmm
