  1. I am erecting a 6 foot fence using concrete posts. Right in the middle of the fence line is a laburnum, anyone got any ideas as to the best way of fencing up to the tree?. It cant be felled and i dont want to screw/nail/bolt to the tree.
  2. Anyone had this experience? People changing to log burners, but have never lit a fire in their lives and blame your logs for being to wet, although you have sold tons & tons with no problem so you know they are dry.
  3. one very important fact to remember when you are buying in cordwood is that you will be getting green cordwood i.e much heavier than seasoned. When my hilux is loaded (1.2 cubic metre) with seasoned logs i doubt there is more than half a tonne, if they were green it would be more like three quarters of a tonne. Google "cord" for the dimensions
  4. Seems to me your keen , enthusiastic and not scared of hard work, good luck in the future.
  5. Tigger the Trigger for prime minister. You get my vote mate!
  6. Forget the rest, there is only one wood and thats seasoned elm, no other wood comes near.
  7. Done this to many times. Buy a spare key, soak it in oil, wrap it in a plastic bag, put it in a sealed box and cable tie it to the chassis. saved me loads of times.
  8. Dycols @ greenfield had 2 up until about 15 years ago. Billy is my cousin, but looks old enough to be my dad.
  9. Is anyone still using a matador? Great machines but surely outdated now.The wife drove one, slow , smelly, noisy , the matador wasnt much better.
  10. I bought one 2 years ago, split a few hundred ton with it. It is self propelled with a 6.5hp briggs & stratton. Still as good as new. cost £850. Go to log splitter on ebay, look for the seller "nobby" , he is based in cardigan w. wales. Its worth the trip just for the stunning scenery. I took a really hard knotty piece of eucalyptos and it split it with the 4 way wedge with ease.
  11. Had another, this time from amazon, "your apple mac processor has been shipped"
  12. I get at least 2 a week, another is " you can claim a tax rebate", i just delete them .
  13. WOW! you are cheap, i recently bought an 18" chain for my old 038 and it cost just under £40, yours are £12.82.
  14. Big surprise this year, I found out that conifer (seasoned) Is great as firewood. I feel ill everytime i think of the tons & tons i have burnt on the brushwood fire.
  15. Buy a cheap model from B&Q with plenty of files. Seriously it would be as good as any saw for cutting low, again buy plenty of files, and you may find you will want a longer bar. Out of interest what is the going price to grind out an average size stump?
  16. Ive been splitting 3ft long beech limbs today and was wondering what the most effective way of stacking it is, one guy had a pic of his stack and it was perfectly staight . I would prefer to leave it in an untidy mess where i have split it. Which is best?
  17. Invite him round to look at your chipper? Hope your insured well , because there would be a good chance of a break in shortly after their visit.

    japa 900

Doesnt matter how old your jappa is, its the same as anything it depends on how much work its done and who has used it. yours looks in good nik, and the tractor (is it an international?). I,d say a definate bargain.
  19. Watch out for the dags!
  20. Looks very professional, dont spoil it by leaving out a landline, soon as i see an advert or vehicle with only a mobile number immediately i think PIKEY.
  21. Really depends on how much work its done. If its got good compression then it is a fair price. would help if you knew the history, is the owner a proffesional tree surgeon? Why is he getting rid? If you are only going to use it now and again then buy it.
  22. I never measure, cut by eye. some customers do ask for them either longer or shorter after the first load they have. 7-10 inches is the norm.
  23. A problem i have had is that certain people buy a log burner because they look really warm and homely in the shop, man tells them "easy to use, cheap to run" etc. They pay a couple of grand to buy and fit. Then they realise that the only heating they have had is gas & electric. Never lit a fire in their lives and blame the logs for not being bone dry.
  24. I am doing 3 loads tomorrow. Ran out just after christmas. Then i gave people samples of conifer (free), not one person was dissatisfied. Ive ordered an arctic load of ash & oak ready for next year. Just had a couple of canter loads of beech delivered (sadly green).
  25. Great stuff, forget ash, beech, oak, this is the best firewood bar none. Only use it when the bark has fallen off. Until this stage it is stringy as f***. One drawback is there is not enough of it about.
