  1. I wouldnt mind having a crack at it myself. Even if i didnt take to it at least i have had a bash, how long does it take for something like that to dry out if planked? can it warp of twist to the point where its unusable?
  2. I have a large quercus robur to fell the base is around 4 feet wide looks like a lovely bit of timber and such a shame to ring it up for firewood, is it work cutting it into planks or something? i have never done anything like this before so any help would be great How long do the lengths need to be? how thick? alaskan mill? No access to get it out in 1 lump.
  3. Errrr look at all that green stuff....far too healthy
  4. I bought a used transit years ago, its only let me down once and its been overloaded made to tow chippers & trailers, paid for its self 100s of times over.
  5. True
  6. Can somebody please define types of forestry, i am trying to ascertain a ink if their is 1 between tree surgery, forestry & log processing
  7. If its not a massive amount of brash i wouldn't bother...but then again it depends on the client, some will pick fault and find marks no matter how small! no pleasing some of em...good luck
  8. :thumbdown:From what i can gather the land owner has deceased and the property & land is being auctioned off by the family, their is too many ifs and buts if i am honest, we would have to sell the house we are in which we got for peanuts and has plenty of room for my vans etc. if it went tits up we would be knackered, if i had 200k sat doing nothing and could afford to buy it with a view to building a new dwelling and play the long arsed game with the la then i would jump on it, unfortunately i cant
  9. I have spoke to an agent today who basically said there is no reason why you couldn't put animals on and and still fall within the condition, this depends upon the wording as set out in the condition ie solely or mainly in agriculture or forestry. From what i can gather the condition imposed on the house could either be a pita or summert and nowt...bit of a gamble really, just need to weigh up the pros and cons!
  10. I have read a case where when the condition was imposed the total land associated with the property was considerably more that it currently is, and that their is not sufficient land available to make a living solely out of agriculture
  11. I have to speak to the la tomorrow but from what i understand you couldn't buy the property & land, stick a few animals on & continue working an unrelated occupation and still remain in the clause...it has to be a money making enterprise, what constitutes a money making enterprise though? sure a business related to agriculture no matter how big or small still turning a profit is still making money off the land nowts straight forward
  12. I have read various websites that state the usage as agriculture, forestry & equestrian and some that just say agriculture & forestry, does site clearance come under forestry
  13. Forestry is completely different to domestic tree work or site clearance...surely? in the short term to purchase the land perhaps emphasize on the fact that the grassland would be used for equestrian purposes which would keep within the occupancy agreement. I have worked in agriculture before but from what i understand that doesnt mean nothing.
  14. After years of looking i have found a piece of agricultural land with dilapidated farm buildings and a house in need of tlc. As it stands the house has an agricultural occupancy condition upon it and the land, from what i understand you can only purchase it with a view to using it in relation to agriculture, forestry or equestrian purposes. the idea was to extend the current house, knock the knackered tin buildings down and turn it into a yard for firewood & tree surgery related operations & rent the grass land out for horsey folk "with proper planning permission and so on...Would the house having a condition placed upon it potentially throw a major spanner in the works?
  15. What is the equivalent husqvarna model to the stihl 441? maybe thinking about going to the dark side
  16. If i am reading their website right you may be able to obtain level 2 in 10 months over 12 classroom sessions, i assume their will also be coursework involved? this looks doable as 12 days spread over 10 months when your running a business is not too bad. Have you done a course with them?
  17. vertex for me, new one has them chipper ear defenders on...they seem massive but you could stand next to the chipper on full chat and it not blast your ears at all.

    Council

We got asked as they were miles behind with trees that have been condemned, never actually did any work though as it would of meant dropping all of the work we had on "some of which trickles in from various other firms" and starting within 5 days! 1 of the contractors who took it on got less than 20 jobs out of them and then got nowt. Given more notice i would have jumped at the chance, that came through knowing people in the la. Stuff generally comes up for tender and does not always come down to the cheapest quote imo.
  19. I want to start doing tree surveys etc but don't have any formal qualifications as such only stuff I have learnt from doing tree work. Can somebody point me in the right direction with regards to the qualifications I need.
  20. Tidy...wait for that epi to kick in...they will have you back every year
  21. Depends how you market your business, i bought a carlton grinder as inevitably taking trees down customers often want the stump removing too, we also do a fair bit of fencing so being able to remove stumps is a bonus. I now have 2 grinders which makes sense for me as i don't like hiring tackle its just not convenient enough. Customers like having to get 1 contractor in that has the capability to cover all aspects of the job, that being said there is lots of firms who don't have grinders who will sub the grinding part out, imo to be able to offer a decent service you would need a small pedestrian grinder & also a bigger 1 so you can cover 70% of jobs, dont buy 2nd hand go all out and get new finance it over a few years and it will only have to go out once a month to cover repayments, advertise your services and make yourself known build it up and you will soon be buying a 2nd machine
  22. Really happy with my Bandit Dean...i have killed a fair few stumps without breaking sweat, have gotta grind slightly different with the hydro head but still a good machine
  23. Cheers Mick...your job looked like a pita leading all spoil away.
  24. You are off your head Stefan to love stump grinding so much it is my pet hate...you do a nice tidy job though pal
  25. Grinding some horrible stumps out down the side of a drive, took 2 hours to dig it out and had to get breaker under it as it had grown around bricks that formed a raised bed around it new machine smashed it out though
