  1. Did that just get ragged over?
  2. This vat game sounds like it could be good on the money making side so long as the work still rolls in.
  3. We also do a lot of fencing, would you charge vat on the whole cost of the job or just the labour side?
  4. I bought a lot of tackle last year so getting vat back is good, however if i end up de registering i would end up giving all that lovely money back?
  5. Sounds like a lot of faffing about! glad im not my accountant. Are tax / vat inspections really that bad? maybe only if you have stuff to hide.
  6. Has it put folk off having to pay the vat also?
  7. So i can claim vat back on equipment previously bought? I charge 20% extra and give it to the tax man quarterly? Do you also get the vat back quarterly?
  8. Its going to happen so its a case of see how it goes, accountant did mention taking on less work to stay below threshold but this goes against wanting to make more money, ive purchased a lot of equipment in the last 4 years so the possibility of claiming the vat back is a plus point. Wakefield is over saturated with folk doing tree work so i wold like to remain as competitive on price as possible to keep the work rolling in, i don't advertise so a lot of work is word of mouth, maybe an increase in price is not a bad thing as we are coming recommended, folk might not mind paying extra for stuff doing right.
  9. I've been told by our accountant that we need to register for vat in the new financial year, I am a little concerned as se have a blend of commercial and domestic, commercial I don't see a problem but increasing my prices by 20% to private customers means I will outprice us on jobs! Since being vat registered has it affected your profitability?
  10. dont like getting me boots wet now andy
  11. Surely everyone cant of stayed in bed??? Must be someone else that's being suffering more than us today...anybody??? would make me feel a bit better
  12. When working in crap weather at what point do you knock it on the head? level 1 When branches are getting blown into the garden 3 doors down? level 2 When you cant feel your fingers or face? level 3 When the blower wont blow wet sloppy saw dust anymore? level 4 When your undies are soaking wet? level 5 When your man bits have shriveled up so much they resemble a walnutwhip. Or DANGER level 6 which is all of the above plus there's no more tea & biscuits left :shot: Takes a lot for us to give in completely but after getting soaking wet and blown all over a nice 4pm bath is on the list
  13. What truck is that? looks like its build like a tank :thumbup1:
  14. Crap! wind is not as bad as yesterday but it rained hard about an hour ago and its border line freezing!
  15. Grafter? Got any pics?
  16. :thumbup:nice job
  17. I've always drove ever since I passed my test, i prefer it instead of being sat on some other blokes knee in the van!
  18. I think so, its another skill you bring to the firm that allow them to work more efficiently, also you are technically working more as the other lads are sleeping in the van while you are driving from job to job.
  19. Suppose it depends what you want out of life, some people are happy earning nowt as they don't want the responsibility, i was called allsorts at 1 place i worked for passing my hgv and getting hiab ticket, because if meant while all the plonkers were getting piss wet through on £6.50 an hour i could load up and disappear for a few hours on £12 an hour. Some of it comes down to the firm also not everyone wants to train lads up because they only want a branch dragger on minimum wage.
  20. Level of pay in any job depends on your qualifications, your own personal motivation and so on. I've worked with lads who would moan about how little they were getting paid, but refused to put themselves out to gain more skills which in turn would lead to better pay!
  21. Your pulling dead weight the lower you go, thus increasing the chance of the hinge breaking are the tree going pete tong! the higher the better "within reason".
  22. there are very few trees we work on that you would be able to get access for a bucket truck.
  23. 50mph gusts today in Leeds!
