  1. Its a decent size, i managed to snap it of and it was well rotten, concerned with it being on the banking apparently its leaning more than it was a couple of years ago. Its put out large butress roots on the opposite side of the lean to compensate, i cant see whats going on below ground and with the roots being girdled how bad is the rest of the root system?
  2. Lad I know who tried hiring out chipper & operator goes to a domestic job where customer had took some conifers down, conifers go through and customer reveals a pile of **** including old toys and fence posts, another occasion lad from council put a scaffold bar through to see what would happen. If your renting it out you have no control of what's going through! You only want 1 Muppet to throw crap through and you've ruined £200 worth of blades at a minimum.
  3. Your business plan in based on renting it out to 1 person, what if he doesn't want or need it and it get rented to some numpty who throws old fence posts riddled with nails garden rubbish old kids toys and ruins it. Its down time and repairs will cost you, I wont lend owt out to anyone because I have seen how it gets used! Save your money and invest in something else.
  4. I understand girdled roots can send a tree into decline. Could they also cause decay below ground level? The tree in question is a small leaf lime around 25 years old growing on a bit of a banking sandwiched between 2 walls.
  5. Snap, i am at the point where i can just keep ticking over as we are, OR look at exploring other avenues of work. The end game for me is to make enough money for early retirement the problem is the more you earn the more you spend, catch 22!
  6. Do the front steer only ones pivot in the middle? i have being told the pivot steer ones have a weak point in the middle and are therefore not suited to a loader. I thought they all pivot in the middle though?
  7. If i had the capacity to move it in a 1ner i would but it would take me a week to shift! are they building more student digs on there? Some big trees up there, good weather this week for it though.
  8. we did a huge storm damaged beech just before xmas on the other side of the line of tpo trees, is that though the developer? wheres timber goin? was a boggy shitty mess when we were on there
  9. Is that Tetley hall in Headingley?
  10. Riko & Lamberhurst engineering
  11. i have got my whole arm both hands and inside of the other arm covered and have not had any problems, i did worry about how customers might view me but most dont care a few ask about them and the others have em anyway. I think the ones on your face are a bit extreme and might make people judge you before you even speak.
  12. I have spoke to 2 different dealers today 1 who said basically a front loader on an alpine wont lift much and could potentially damage the machine due to the way it pivots in the centre, and the other who said they lift a good amount and had never seen a problem using front loaders? can somebody give me some clarification?
  13. I can only legally tow 3.5 ton on the van so i would assume it combined with the trailer would be way too heavy.
  14. I must admit i would imagine a tractor would be more versatile on site, maybe not as maneuverable.
  15. Being trying to access their website all week but to no avail! 40k does sound steep but as a labour saving device which will pay for its self on site, can be offset against tax anyway its not too bad. Nowts cheap anyway! So far i have... Avant/multione Mini Skidsteer loader, not sure if its enough. Alpine tractor. Compact tractor Or just go and buy a proper tractor and drive it to site!
  16. How much are they? Dealer hand delivered a brochure a few weeks ago
  17. Are you sure? id of thought it would be heavier, looks like a good machine.
  18. Kubota innit? How much does that weigh?
  19. We are doing more and more small scale site work and can no longer rely on borrowing dumpers etc that are already on site to move timber, what is on the market at the minute that is small and compact enough to be towed on a trailer and used on site? other than a mini skid steer.
  20. I will see how it goes
  21. Noticed my TR6 has a small tear on the inside edge of 1 of its tracks, i am guessing this will only get worse? or is their steel banding inside that will prevent it tearing completely?
  22. Bet city and guilds do a cs unit to cover that.
  23. I never chase them up, seems a bit desperate. If I quote verbally I know they have got it, if via email I ask them to email me back so I know they have received it. I dont like loosing work but its just how it is, will always be someone cheaper or maybe they just dont like you **** happens.
  24. Got a load of decking to do but need to hide the fixings on the deck boards, what are them camo hidden deck fixing systems like?
