  1. with you're name in sequins on the back eh?
  2. that looks cool, there's some good links on that site to other manufacturers. i use this old thing and its ace:thumbup1: really labour saving
  3. that sounds like a nightmare. monday ; two decent size lombardy pops in the next county, one with bt lines, the other with a lamppost under it (full of nails) early finish and all logs/chip left on site, found a mangled saw chain in the chip pile..ooops tuesday ; awkward dismantle over a crispy asbestos barn roof with early finish including a play with my new chainsaw:biggrin: wednesday; late start, hedgetrimming a neat high leylandii hedge and two birch and rowan fells, early finish thursday ; job cancelled till next week so late start, strip ivy from house wall, sit on ridge tiles and drink tea, go home early, change chipper blades and grease. friday ; lay-in, rewire fuel gauge on landy at last, it now reads over half-full when i thought it was nearly empty:thumbup:, dropped the missus off at her mothers to have a wknd away, been to the pub and had a chinese and the weekend is mine to prep the landies for next weeks mot:thumbup1:
  4. nice plough there.. oh, oh dear its a chipper haha, what a cool noise, i fell in love with mogs when i heard a loaded one roaring up a steep hill.
  5. i do enjoy a free climb every now and then, today we looked at climbing a 150cm dbh oak for fun, it wouldn't have been very exciting as it was only 30ft tall, instead we took our pots of tea and sat on the ridgetiles of the clients house (where the cctv can't see us) for 20mins. i free climbed a larch while camping two years ago, about 40ft above the pitch hanging on by one hand showing off i thought this is a bit silly and scrambled back down.
  6. i'm trying millers oil chainsaw bar oil Engine Oil, Car Oil, Gearbox Oil, Motorcycle Oil, Industrial Oil, Millers Oils they have three different grades of chain oil, im using the thinnest and it lubes the chain better than the stihl oil at low temps, i'll try the thicker stuff when we get constant warm weather, all three have antifling additive, i use millers for all my oils used in the landies and chipper, only problem is they are pricey for small quantities £15 per gallon for chain oil, but much cheaper for a 205litre drum approx £250! edit. looks like you have to contact them for prices,
  7. hawthorn is light coloured when seasoned
  8. you win this time:thumbup:, but thats only because i'm a fan of local services for local people. but they should leave the ancient trees alone, we can't grow new ancient woodlands
  9. but railways don't ever go from where you are to where you need to be, i live within sight of a main railway but the local station got closed before i was born, i went on a train last when i was about 10, how can they possibly help? unless you mean rail freight?
  10. you luddites can't stop progress, it's about time this country had a decent infastructure. but railways are old news and a bad idea, destroying habitats/woodlands is nothing new but there's not as many left now as there used to be so this would be wrong to be given the greenlight. maybe the planners need to see even the woodcutters are against this not just the crazy activists
  11. let them pass safely then when they get down the road give them a cupful of chip with the bigshot..! re original post, its a messed up world and thats horrible, watch your backs lads
  12. damn farmers again..! i swear them's john deere overalls
  13. i use a local wood carver for jobs like this, i tried a mushroom once but it ended up looking more like a dumbbell.
  14. i know what you're all thinking..'i gotta go look up inside that tunnelled tree' hope you had a good time out there? i'd move over there like a shot given the chance
  15. i wonder if a bright blue vizi vest would be more visible? like a kingfisher blue.
  16. i went to mariposa grove a couple of years ago. here's a taster.. its just northwest of Yosemite if i remember right:thumbup1:
  17. dropped some birch yesterday and returned today to find the crystalised sap on the stumps, looked further down the site to where some bigger birch were felled late last summer and they were covered in a good thick layer of the stuff, i also think it is the sugars in the sap crystalising as they sit out in the open, no piccies as camera suffered a nasty accident:thumbdown:
  18. jackhammer and try to split it down its length, then break up the concrete to remove
  19. where is the tree now? another vote for Sorbus aucuparia Rowan here:001_smile:
  20. rac always get my vote, only needed recovery once when the bottom fell out of the steering box on the disco, they brought a wagon and recovered it to the next town to my chosen garage. when my bro didn't renew his AA policy they sent him a snotty letter to the effect of don't come running to us when you breakdown and are stuck with no money and no friends in the rain at night, don't they do plumbing now or something?
  21. the blades on my tw190 are 'hollow ground' concave blade edged on double edged blades. Ed.
  22. anything that carries the load i'm being paid to carry while i get to sit down is a very good invention:thumbup:
  23. you're yolking aren't you:thumbup:
  24. WARNING! There's been a fight in the biscuit tin. A lad called Rocky, hit a Penguin over the head with a Club, tied him to a Wagonwheel with a Blue Ribbon and made his Breakaway in a Taxi. police say Rocky was last seen just After Eight by a Viscount from Maryland, Hobnobbing with a Gingernut and an accomplice, only known to the police as Rich T. unfortunately they don't have a crumb of evidence, so the Jammie Dodger might get away with it!
  25. my camera suffered a nasty fall last week, i'm gutted as the last few days work has been amazing with the weather so good, rigging big bits, felling a big backleaner and tonights sunset, blue sky with a bright red sun, just perfect.
