  1. hawthorn is light coloured when seasoned
  2. you win this time:thumbup:, but thats only because i'm a fan of local services for local people. but they should leave the ancient trees alone, we can't grow new ancient woodlands
  3. but railways don't ever go from where you are to where you need to be, i live within sight of a main railway but the local station got closed before i was born, i went on a train last when i was about 10, how can they possibly help? unless you mean rail freight?
  4. you luddites can't stop progress, it's about time this country had a decent infastructure. but railways are old news and a bad idea, destroying habitats/woodlands is nothing new but there's not as many left now as there used to be so this would be wrong to be given the greenlight. maybe the planners need to see even the woodcutters are against this not just the crazy activists
  5. let them pass safely then when they get down the road give them a cupful of chip with the bigshot..! re original post, its a messed up world and thats horrible, watch your backs lads
  6. damn farmers again..! i swear them's john deere overalls
  7. i use a local wood carver for jobs like this, i tried a mushroom once but it ended up looking more like a dumbbell.
  8. i know what you're all thinking..'i gotta go look up inside that tunnelled tree' hope you had a good time out there? i'd move over there like a shot given the chance
  9. i wonder if a bright blue vizi vest would be more visible? like a kingfisher blue.
  10. i went to mariposa grove a couple of years ago. here's a taster.. its just northwest of Yosemite if i remember right:thumbup1:
  11. dropped some birch yesterday and returned today to find the crystalised sap on the stumps, looked further down the site to where some bigger birch were felled late last summer and they were covered in a good thick layer of the stuff, i also think it is the sugars in the sap crystalising as they sit out in the open, no piccies as camera suffered a nasty accident:thumbdown:
  12. jackhammer and try to split it down its length, then break up the concrete to remove
  13. where is the tree now? another vote for Sorbus aucuparia Rowan here:001_smile:
  14. rac always get my vote, only needed recovery once when the bottom fell out of the steering box on the disco, they brought a wagon and recovered it to the next town to my chosen garage. when my bro didn't renew his AA policy they sent him a snotty letter to the effect of don't come running to us when you breakdown and are stuck with no money and no friends in the rain at night, don't they do plumbing now or something?
  15. the blades on my tw190 are 'hollow ground' concave blade edged on double edged blades. Ed.
  16. anything that carries the load i'm being paid to carry while i get to sit down is a very good invention:thumbup:
  17. you're yolking aren't you:thumbup:
  18. WARNING! There's been a fight in the biscuit tin. A lad called Rocky, hit a Penguin over the head with a Club, tied him to a Wagonwheel with a Blue Ribbon and made his Breakaway in a Taxi. police say Rocky was last seen just After Eight by a Viscount from Maryland, Hobnobbing with a Gingernut and an accomplice, only known to the police as Rich T. unfortunately they don't have a crumb of evidence, so the Jammie Dodger might get away with it!
  19. my camera suffered a nasty fall last week, i'm gutted as the last few days work has been amazing with the weather so good, rigging big bits, felling a big backleaner and tonights sunset, blue sky with a bright red sun, just perfect.
  20. give the guy an invoice for the missing stock. if he denies it show him the evidence, if he won't pay up or work off the debt then beat him with a stick
  21. i'd have rugby tackled it and had a tasty snack then (or run away screaming)
  22. i'd have rugby tackled it:thumbup1:
  23. 300tdi airlocks and overheats very easily when there's a coolant leak, i put a new head on the disco after it airlocked on the motorway, there was found to be a small coolant leak behind the timing belt
  24. hahaha...click:thumbup:
  25. i'd get an ifor in the LM range with the 6/8ft ramps that slide in under the bed. you can put the ramps onto the side of the trailer and roll the logs or winch them on, a crane is a good idea but you may struggle to get a new trailer with one fitted in your budget. don't worry about overheating unless your cooling system is faulty, my temp gauge crept up on gentle slopes towing until i got a new rad, now it is supercool.
