  1. Ebay is exactly how my old neighbour makes a living. She buys all sorts of tat from Buyright and Carboots and re lists the stuff on ebay. I've made some handsome money selling vintage ploughs on ebay
  2. How did your idea go?? Im just about to re advertise my business before harvest and will include firewood processing for farmers in it this time. Be interested to hear how you got on Cheers Ben
  3. I got 100 nets off ebay last year for under £20 delivered, sorry cant remember the name though. Make sure you get the right size though, ones i got were much to big and you could hardly lift when full!!
  4. I've got a browns log splitter, very strong and well built. splits everything and good for billits too. think they are around £650-£800 depending on the dealer.
  5. My KTM EXC-F 250, my pride and joy and love riding enduros more than anything
  6. Cash or cheque, and payment on delivery. A number of my customers leave money in a safe place if no one is in etc.
  7. I was never suggesting the truth wasnt being said! Just writing that i cant get my head around it, i also cant get my head around my neighbour having 4 tractors for 300 acres and we have 1 for 1500 acres but there you go! I'd love to see an operation big enough to supply wood like is stated, i really would!!
  8. Just cant get my head around that! Different part of the country i suppose
  9. Do you mind me asking why your supplier is selling it to you for £55 and not knocking it out straight to the end user for £140 like your friend? Just seems a bit odd to me!
  10. Hi there,

Hope all is well, are you still banging out the bags of willow?

Appologies for never getting around to popping over to your yard.

    Ben

  11. seems like it absorbs the water and the thick bark doesnt let it out again!
  12. A friend of mine delivered about 16t of Poplar cord this time last year for nout, I stuck it all to one side and forgot about it as I have plenty of seasoned hardwood in my yard. I needed to move it this week so instead of moving cord again, i've been ringing it up and splitting it, to be stored in ferras fencing cages. Bloody stuff was still sopping wet, its been down for 2yrs!! Any idea if the now split Pop will be ok for mixed loads this coming winter? Just be good to know if others on here bother with Poplar for firewood. We've got a huge Poplar that came down last winter on the farm thats all mine if its worth it. Thanks for the replys
  13. I think Firewood is just same as most businesses, provide a reliable service and deliver what you advertise and the business will look after itself. I'm making money in firewood, not a lot but it provicdes a wage for me and my bro in the winter, I wouldn't do it otherwise Its the fly by night firewood boys that are mugging themselves off, thinking they are making money but when they take into account everything that goes in to producing a load their probably loosing money.
  14. Just downloaded Chrome and Arbtalk seems to be working aagain now for me WOOO HOOO Simon, just read your message, will call tomorrow sometime. Ben
  15. Steve, Sorry im another who said their'd sign up but havent yet. I've just moved to a new area, and will be soon in the process of recruiting new customers and signing up for the firewood directory is one of the steps i'll be taking. On another note, are others struggling with logging in now? i had to log in 4 logs to write this! Cheersw Ben
  16. Where is that based Tim? I'd 200t if that was around here anywhere!! Chap who manages alot of woodland around this way wants £50t minimum and thats before delivery.
  17. yeah I'm pleased with that, but not making huge money for the hard graft unfortunately.....its a shame as my bro and me do enjoy firewood alot. i reckon 4 loads (£90 a pick up load) on my own provides about £100 after everything is paid and 6 loads with help around £120-£140. Delivery is biggest variable factor on costs to me.
  18. I process then send to customer yes, but cord wood stacked and left to dry out for a year. I dont have the time or space to cut, split and then store, farming keeps me very very busy all year apart from Dec and Jan when i can get a few firewood orders and process when required. I cut and process to order anyway, so unless all my customers had the same size logs I dont process and store. HAving said that, if we have a couple of hours free I may saw up a heap of rounds but free time dont happen very often!
  19. your doing well if you can do a load in an hour, is that including arriving in yard and setting things up, processing, delivering and then getting back again? i can do 4 loads max a day on my own, 6 with my bro helping, and thats all wood to hand and fairly local deliveries. I feel that i'm as efficient as can be with a saw bench and splitter. any suggestions to go at your speed im all ears.
  20. Put some long pipes on it so you can use with a saw bench on same tractor, if thats the sort of thing you want to achieve? Big table like others have said. Mine has a guard on the side you stand as wel, had a couple split in a hurry that wacked against it!!
  21. Thanks for the replies so far guys, very interesting. All i have ever done and studied for is Agriculture so this project is all new to me although I believe we have the skilled labour on the farm to complete it. We're entering into HLS so hoping lots more of this type work will come my way.
  22. As title suggests really? We have some projects going on in a couple of our woods that require fencing sections in to prevent Deer from entering. We'd like to do the work ourselves and are confident we can after attending a course. tam struggling to find Deer related fencing courses. Any help is great Thanks
  23. Quad bike and trailer would be cheap route i would of thought if you can borrow a quad? We have a trailer on the farm with road legal floatation tyres, i go into woods with this trailer and quad, then occasionally put pick up on it when taking any distance on the road!
  24. Yeah thanks steve and much thanks to Will also for sorting out transport. Worked well for both of us i believe. Nets look really good steve Shoudl shift them in no time
  25. HOw much do you sell that load for if you dont mind me asking??
