  1. Try a fiver mate and reduce if they dont go but im sure they will sell at that. I did 100 nets last year and all went for £5 each. Took 2hrs to net the logs up and sold them all outside the front door, nice little earner really that one.
  2. Hi There, Would you deliver to Suffolk/Essex boarder? If so what sort of price we looking at for 300 nets?
  3. HI Andy, Very interested in the timber and have messaged you. Thanks Ben
  4. HOw do you get on with the saw bench with splitter built in?? Not great i'm presuming seeing you have hydrolic splitter next to it?
  5. Ideally it will be road towable yes. As i want to bring wood back to the farm every evening after doing work on other farms so would need to be road legal if possible. And yes standard ball hitch. Would try and do it so quad can be transported in the trailer if possible
  6. I'm seriously looking at investing in a compact timber trailer with mini crane for my quad. It would suit what we do on the farm very very well. But I cant really justify buying one just for the farm. DO fellow arbtalk users think there would be much hire demand for a quad and timber trailer combo? Would you hire one? How much would you be willing to pay? If a neighbour of mine had one, I would certainly be interested in hiring it i know that much. I have a newish 500 honda work horse and looking at the Compact Dragon timber trailer.

  8. Logbaron, I couldnt find anything about the course, of which i would be very very interested in find more info about. Thanks again
  9. Merlo loader, if i have deliveries in the village i'll often use the loader just that bit easier to unload!! And the boss keeps a watchful eye over procedings!!
  10. My god that was a cold day!! Leyland 272 with a McConnel Logmate bench. Case 110 & quickie loader (not mine unfortunately!!) Girlfriend on the axe Will try find a few pics from my other wood yard, different kit there.
  11. Any chance you could stick some pics up of your quad bike trailer, I am going to have one made this summer and after all the ideas i can get. Thanks
  12. If you can speak to farmers arm yourself with facts, exactly how much space your after, how much wood you'll be shifting, how many hrs a day you'll be there that sort of stuff. If you come across like a professional sounding chap your more likely to get on. NO farmer wants to be associated with a cowboy log trader trust me!! Don't take the piss by being there 18hr days 7 days a week, traditionally a farm yard should be like a ghost town on a sunday!! Other thing is farmers like cash as they very rarely see any from sales of their crops etc, I have a yard of my own and work out of another one and the cash agreement there works very well for both parties. Simple system, I have use of his tractor, some concrete space and access to fallen timber and in return he gets £20 cash for every load I take out of his yard. Simple.
  13. Target the village shops notice boards etc, normally free or low cost to advertise and gets the word spread around that particular village. Village/parish newsletters are great too i have found, especially if you supply the editor with logs!! I have also sponsored quite alot of events this year, only young farmer events and local village ones but people appreciate seeing a local young business man putting something back into the community etc
  14. Steve, where in Suffolk?? Could u get a picture of said sign....I'm toying with doing the same thing on my land. Ta, Ben
  15. I've got a 280 and a 290 both on 18 bars for ringing up, both sound saws and do the job just fine. Just don't get lazy with the sharpning!! Also have a 180 12 bar, bloody great little saw for general firewood type stuff
  16. farmer_ben

    small van

Have a look at the corsa vans, had mine 2yrs now and super cheap to run. Can get 3/4 saws in the back with fuel/oils and clothing etc plus dog!! Real handy little van its proving to be
  17. Anyone use one of these, I know Free Treller does but he isnt on here much?! I think this type of splitter would suit me best as I have 3 sites where my wood is and only 1 tractor, which is normally powering the saw bench anyway. Suggestions on models etc would be great, I'm fully aware these types of splitters are more expensive
  18. 40k investment is scary in my eyes, and yeah will take an age to see a return. surely it could be done cheaper? depends what sort of empire your looking to creat i suppose. In my first year I have spent bout 1.5k I reckon (already had tractor and bench), sold 6k's of firewood and 2/3rds of that is profit i'd say. there are loads of people round here selling firewood but i'm gobbling up their customers by supplying seasoned dry wood, the other guys are big producers and doesn't seem they can wait for wood to season?!
  19. Hi, Needc to make my mind up regard which log splitter to purchase and welcome any suggestions and advice. Photos would be great also. Will be producing roughly 150 pick up trucks worth of wood next winter, maybe more, so i need a fairly decent reliable one. not a hobbie one from argos!! I prefer the hydrolic ones to a cork screw and i have a 60hp tractor. Am also comsidering a self propelled one which i could tow with pick up as i have 3 wood heaps and only one tractor. all views and tip greatly appreciated. Thanks
  20. Hi, What sort of price we looking at for deliver into East Anglia (Suffolk/Essex boarder) Cheers
  21. £35 per m3?!?! Cant see how anyone can make money on that my man.
  22. BAz, there are loads of threads on here from people after cord wood. Check them out may be of use. Will you be sell you logs by the m3 then?
  23. Baz, Welcome to Arbtalk and the Firewood forum. Best thing you could of done is to join up on here, take a couple of hrs out one evening and read through all the old threads in this forum. You'll probably find out everything you need to know about Firewood production, this site has been a huge help to me i know that much. Sounds like you have a good base sorted, as long as you can provide your customers with decent dry wood you wont go wrong mate, by the siund of the adverts round your way you'll know how NOT to do it anyway. I only started 4 months ago and have already got around 60 customers I supply. There are a few guys selling transit loads of **** wood around here for £100 a time, I sell bout the same price but smaller quantity and much better wood and people soon catch on that your the real deal.. Cheers mate Ben
  24. Dont supposeyou have any pics do you? I have 2 ideas of how I may store my logs, I have access to loads of 1 ton potato bags, these are vented to stop the potatoes going bad and other idea is to build large square cages out of the mesh panels you see around building sites. Thats how I built my dog run with them panels and I think they'd work well for me.
