  1. As a professional company we strive to carry out the customers wishes combined with a little bit of advice. So we do an enormous amount of lopping and topping
  2. I told my lads to knock it on the head an hour ago when I noticed their mood had changed, unrelenting rain since first thing.
  3. Think I know that young fellow, goes by the nickname of 'Spike'
  4. Well old Father Time is creeping up on me, but I can tell you that doing gardens, lawns, or taxi is the last thing on my mind. I've cut more hedges and felled more trees than you can shake a stick at, and when I call it a day that will be it. There will be no more sweat rolling off my back, I can tell you that much.
  5. Years ago I went with my lady friend at the time, to her friends house who it transpired was some kind of well known clairvoyant. I didn't rubbish her in front of my friend but the whole reading she insisted on giving me was a complete load of old cods.
  6. Staff issues often test the patience of a saint. If they're not squabbling amongst themselves they are usually disgruntled about something or other. You can pay a good worker £20 an hour if you want, but that's no guarantee he'll keep with you or have his heart in the job, and on the other side of the coin some of my hardest working lads have been very happy and motivated to be paid £9 an hour. If someone has all the answers to staff issues, I'd be interested in hearing about it.
  7. Yes in the seventies and later pampas in the front garden was like saying 'we are swingers here' , that I do know. Back on track yes sharp hedgecutter.
  8. You can always use a scythe, that would ramp your fuel costs down leastways.
  9. Yes it's imperative to get a yard well away from neighbours houses and moaning Minnie's. If I made a habit of revving saws up or running the chipper up in my house yard, my neighbours would be on the blower like a flash to every government body known, except perhaps the coastguard.
  10. It's very worrying that any Herbert can get his filthy hands on a skeleton key for transits, this has been a hot topic on the transit owners forum for a year or so, some owners who can't easily remove all their gear out every night have had extra high security locks fitted at quite an expense. But what price is peace of mind when you're asleep in bed and your livelihoods sat out there on that dark wet street.
  11. This one seems to be warming up nicely.
  12. And to make my life easier I have 3 yards as well as my house one - a main yard and 2 satellite yards.
  13. £100 a week is cheap enough, and as Ian said 24 hour access is a must really.
  14. The axle bent, they said it was my fault as bent axles were unheard of. I coughed up £800 before they would send a new one out. Some months later I learnt off my learned friends on here that it was / is a known fault and many were later changed under warranty. Had my new TW 230 a year now and has been faultless
  15. The fact that customers are often after something for nothing is a never ending affair. Like most contractors I get it all the time, usually the customer will ask an employee instead of me, but that doesn't work neither as my lads are well briefed as to the why's and wherefores of customers. They will keep coming out of the house, after watching you closely with one more little job after another, and seem shell shocked that it's going to cost them extra. An old trick of course is they bring out tea and biscuits then before you've finished stirring it,they come out with another 'can you just' . I just resent being taken for a mug at every other job we turn up at.
  16. They had one over on me , bigtime a while ago, they won't get the chance to do so again.
  17. When I was first married all that she baked (or heated up) were baked beans. Even now a roast dinner is something we only have at Christmas, hey ho .
  18. Two fellows near me are always squaring up to each other. One neighbor likes BBQ but when the wind blows burnt grease and smoke into his neighbours yard he threatens to put a hosepipe over the fence and put it out for him. Better than match of the day some summer Saturday evenings, I chuckle when I'm out there wondering which of them will crack first
  19. When you get a good team together, and things are steaming along, it's a common fault to take your eye off the ball and to take them for granted. A good worker may soon drift away with your reference in his back pocket, leaving you short handed and with a team short of skilled workers. Good workers are hard to find, and even harder to keep.
  20. Any tree guy/firm worth their salt would have been making the most of storm Doris , unsociable hours -yes, high wage bill - yes, high fuel bill - yes. Impressive bank balance - almost certainly.
  21. You could always drive right through the checkpoint on the Base and ask the yanks if they can use it on the airfield Adam
  22. The sweat is running down my back just thinking about you doing that lot that way.
