  1. Anyone ever used one of those fire imps? I think its saltpetre in a packet that you light and it is supposed to clean the chimney? I used one years ago when I couldnt afford a sweep and landlord didnt bother to get it swept - having said that I didnt have the chimney swept ever in the 8 years I lived there....... What?? It was FINE!!

  3. I got sent an NPTC sticker when I passed my pesticides! I suppose it could be used to infer competence where none exists but hopefully landowners would want to see evidence of tickets/insurance et before a contractor started work anyway?

Re; carbon footprint - coal used to fire Uk coal fired powerstations is largely imported There is a carbon footprint associated with transport of any fuel Wood is sustainable unlike other fossil fuels Im not sure importing wood is a good idea when we have plenty here - the carbon footprint of using Uk timber would obviously be less. I think the US imports a huge amount of timber - rather more than the UK!

  17. We charge £15 a metre unless it is a really easy one with easy access (or the landowner supplies lots of good cake)

And more and more people who are driving uninsured because they cant afford the insurance premiums - so this costs insurers more - so they pass this saving on to those of us who do pay car insurance! Norwich Union do good rates for young drivers - especially if you have taken the "Pass Plus|" course - which reduces your premiums too
  19. Advise the house owner to get a building surveyor in to give his opinion before removing anything! That way you make sure the client is aware of potential for heave and you cover your back (pass the buck)

  22. Goat moth caterpillars do burrow together European goat moth, Cossus cossus (Lepidoptera: Cossidae) The frass also makes me think you are correct about Goat Moth too They are known on old Willow and are quite a rare moth

  24. Hmmmm I know a cowboy "so called" tree surgeon in that area that would do something that stupid... It wasnt a fat bloke - late 30s was it? He did a 10 day course and now considers himself fully trained!
