  1. You should be fine then. I'm a 32 waist. I think these oaks will need deadwooding so any bits you can boot out you may aswell. I'll be taking my silky up to clear out any massive bits that may get in the way. Plus to clear a zipline path!
  2. No worries matey. Ray could just borrow one of ours while he has a try climb. Set up a nice self tending prussic or blakes and he should be good to go.
  3. Cool ray So far we've got Me Ed Robarb Robarbs friend? 18 stoner Ray Tom Mr spencer and his yellow climbing suit I may choose to match you on the day!
  4. Think you'd be best going down the trailer route. Then you've got a back bit for kit then. Although whether it's safe behind the canvas!
  5. It rained pretty hard today but they still didn't let us finish early at college!
  6. Awwww keeeevvvvvv! Ah well have a good weekend mate! Ray feel free to come down. You may even get a climb too. Whereabouts are you coming from?
  7. I've got 30-34 and Preston isn't far. Where exactly? Any more details on the job? I'll be available fully around the second week of december if the job runs long enough
  8. it would be a cracking day, theres a nice deli not far away in a nearby village, make some pretty nice butties. duck, spring onion and hoi sin baguette
  9. You've volunteered yourself now! Haha 18stoner: well I live there so I'll be there all day but the mrs finishes work half 6 so wasn't expecting long after then but will see how the day goes.
  10. I have a couple personal first aid kits and keep a bigger one in my truck. We have a couple inside buildings too but we aren't too near those. Although if we needed to get back there it's simple enough.
  11. Here's it's neighbour. But look at the back left of the photo. Another nice oak. You can park close enough to touch them out your car window. I'll try and drag myself down there for a better pic
  12. Yeah what he said ^^ Google that. It gives you catchdale moss lane. Go a little bit east following the a580 and you will see houghtons lane. You will see a little woodland there. Two odd shapes of green next to each other. That's where we will be. From that postcode it's an hour to eds house in Huddersfield. Not a difficult drive at all. The oak in that pic is probably 70cm dbh. One of the taller trees there and best looking to climb
  13. Here's a taster. One of the bigger oaks. Only pic I've got!
  14. Yeah I'll check it's ok to get a fire going. Should be ok though. As there have been small ones there before. I thought it was the 12th as I have an assignment in for the 11th which I keep thinking is Friday but it's the Thursday. Arriving here anytime after 10.30 will be fine. There's a shop that is fairly close. Only other place is back at the house. I'll grab some bacon and sausages and buns for the day. Coming from the m6 you pass a mini tesco and I'm less than a mile from that so there can be a good place to stop for sustenance. I'll be taking a strimmer and a couple saws down if any bits need clearing but it's mainly bramble now. Most other stuff has died back. Anyting else we need?
  15. Nice one Ed. You can be our test dummy again Location is st helens. 10 minutes from jct 23 on the m6. Just off the a580 east lancs road.
  16. Me and robarb are having a bit of a climb down at the woods on our land. There's a couple of good sized oaks. As well as a few other trees, few sycamores, ash, alder, willow. If you have a 4x4 you can park next to the trees. Otherwise you can just park at the yard and bung stuff in my pickup to take it down. Thinking of setting a zipline up too if there's the interest. Date is Saturday 12th. Next week. Short notice but thought I'd see if anybody fancied it?
  17. I ran a 36" on Ukminchs 650. Slightly less power than a 660 but I thought it ran fine. Ringing up some old dry beech. Worked well for a couple days
  18. Ed make a box to sit on your bonnet that's watertight at the top and sides. Then make holes in your bonnet and the bottom of the box. Dry and warm!
  19. here we go
  20. This is just some photos of the old beech on campus. No work is being done on it. Although it would make a cracker of a stunt fell!
  21. lemme get my 260 with 15" bar out, ill have it down by about next bonfire night!
  22. they obviously forbid people climbing it now. Although one of my fellow students did at night. id love to have a jump around that crown, could probably get some good swings in!
  23. heres some of ours too!
  24. Well i had about 10 minutes to waste before a lecture, so i went and photod this old fella. Dropped a branch in summer 09, I had heard of it having merip too, which i confirmed for myself, found what appears to be ganoderma from what i could see, was very awkward to get a photograph of it, and some Porcelain Mushroom too, on the major lower lateral, i took a photo of the underneath, is that fibre buckling? seems to be rippled, and also on some other limbs. Dont think theres much life left in this old guy. Although these trees do surprise us! Apologies for bad shots, thought they turned out ok but viewing on the PC i didnt do too well!
  25. Sorry yeah. I keep seeing your avatar and it reminds of stevie Blair posing in his helmet so I keep thinking it's him. Ah well. Easy mistake!
