  1. Nice idea with the 2011. I bet the Hoover loves you! We grow Fraser fir. Had a few hundred out this year. Had one in the house and it barely dropped a needle. We've recently planted 20000 more trees. Fraser and nordman. With a view to plant another 20000 over the next year. I never recommend spruce as an indoor tree. Way to happy to shed it's load! Here's some of our frasers.
  2. A lot of the desire over apples devices is through good marketing and making them look desirable, the laptops are a single piece of cast aluminium which makes them look good! I don't own apple computers but have a friend who owns both apple laptops and a windows desktop. His files interchange just fine over computers. It would just kill apples Market share if they were completely dependent on their own file types. You can get the same programs for both pc and mac now too. I use my iPhone for everything. I can now be completely dependent from my pc. I an check all three email accounts, facebook, buy and sell on eBay, surf the Internet, listen to music, play games. I can do everything my pc can. And a lot easier!
  3. Ill be one to mention an iPhone. Although you are looking at a HTC, have a look and play with an iPhone. I have friends who don't like the HTC phones after using them everyday. It's completely your choice. I have only had a try of HTC phones in shops so don't know what they are like day in day out. I've had numerous iPhones, a few have been warranty replacements but still I've had each model. There is a massive following for the iPhone too so any problems have most likely been dealt with before. Although bb are good. I find the keyboards way too diddly!
  4. How many sharpens would you think out of a file? I feel after 2 good sharpens, depending on chain damage and bar length that they don't file as good as a new one.
  5. Trust you Steve to post at exactly midnight! All the best guys, may this year be prosperous and full of great experiences!
  6. It's an idea I've thought about. A new chain for every job. Depending on the saw, ive found two 12" 200t chain for £12 so one on every job isn't much of a problem. Although something like a 660 36" chain is £25-30 depending on area. That I would sharpen small stuff is worth buying new chains if you can afford it. A compromise could be a new chain each week?
  7. Use a grinder to take damage off then two passes with a new file and it's a perfect like new edge!
  8. video explains all, in german! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qG4IaHgqH00&feature=player_embedded]YouTube - Buying a Volkswagen from an old lady...[/ame]
  9. Hand sharpen is good enough. I buy packs of 6 or 12. Tend to get two good sharpens. One if it's a badly damaged chain. It's not worth investing the money on expensive files when they are just gonna wear out.
  10. Thanks. The 039 was bought in 97. But had a new bar and chain put on last month. It's had a couple of uses but its not in need of a sharpen yet. We run the 039 on full chisel now. I do with all chains. I prefer them for sharpening as I can see the edge and the corner. I've got a 20" coming for the 660. But ive got to wait for it and it would be overkill for what it's cutting!
  11. Taking off a 36 and putting an 18 on. I think it will run ok on it! Then I can go from an 18 to a 13 on my 260.
  12. Cool. I was aware of the low profile and full size but thought there were different sizes of full size in gauge. Looks like I'll get a play with my new toy tomorrow then!

    Quickie

Just a quick one. Will the bar and chain from my 039 go onto my 660? I know both are 3/8" bar and chain. But are there different types of 3/8" chain? It's a by cloudy for me this one!
  14. I've decides to try and make more money than last year! Then I'll go and do my 3rd year at uni
  15. They look like they might be a bit comfier because it would spread out the pressure on your leg. People with skinny legs might not fit in them properly. And also people with large legs may squeeze into them. I couldn't figure out what I was looking at. I thought they were light crampons or something then saw the shank and spike.
  16. I'm after a small axe for splitting kindling. It's mainly broken up pallets so is easy enough to knock through with a good axe. But we seem to have misplaced our last one. Plus it was old and a b&q special. I've seen one for around £30 which looked the dogs danglies. But what other makes would you recommend?
  17. apparently using the claws from a male wolf and putting them on a necklace made of its tail hair will make you have no fear! Just kidding. Saw these and thought they would be a great alternative! Wold Claw Tree Climbing Boot Harness
  18. Is there no USB cable? Blutooth is only good for hands free IMO
  19. FYI tractor buckets and clearing ice. You can't see grids or raised flags or anything. Until you've clattered them, bent something and flipped them out the ground. And hit the windscreen! We have the winter contract down on the seaforth docks container terminal in Liverpool. We spent 6 hours with a small tractor, a bigger one and a bobcat all with ordinary buckets. The bigger tractor driven by my dad hit a grid with the edge of the bucket. He must have been doing 10-15mph and the tractor stopped dead. Took a chunk out the manhole cover and flipped it 6ft! The bobcat also managed to lift out a manhole cover. I was a bit more cautious but still hit a Grid. You don't half think oh bejeeus what was that! My advice, stay slow. Keep your bucket at a shallow angle so it's not trying to dig under stuff, almost level with a few degrees of bite on it is sufficient, it's easy enough to figure out. Just drive with it until it clears everything after you've adjusted it. I had to do a block paved area with the little tractor. Keeping it nice and shallow meant it cleared ice and snow but didn't try to lift any stones!
  20. three strand is a good all rounder!
  21. I've got an 18" bar to go straight on. I think it will love it! I'll buy a 24" too so I've got a range of bars with it. My 260 can now be used with a 13" to keep it nimble! I had a rev up before. Sweet music!
  22. My mum went to austrailia for this Christmas and as it's my birthday too she felt bad so made up for it with loads of presents. Doesn't beat having her here though! I got a 660 as a joint present from my mum and dad and loads of cool presents from my girlfriend. Got a pair of timberland walking boots which are black and red with red laces. They Match my meindls! Got two bonsai trees. Two little Chinese elms, Zelkova serrata. Gonna grow em huge and do an indoor stunt fell with the 660 Had a massive grin on my face all day!
  23. Happy birthday Billy! It's bot very often I can say that!
  24. Who else is as unlucky as me?! All the best guys. Have a fun and safe Christmas and new year! Been a great year. Made better, and bearable, by this great forum! Thanks Steve!
  25. surely if other mixes worked better, wouldnt the manufacturers be recommending it? 50:1 in everything, 5 ltr exactly of petrol, one still oil shot washed out with fuel from tank gives a perfect mix!
