  1. I get to jobs sometimes and think I wish I could fell this instead. Then I would be done by 10!
  2. after reading these other comments, about 1p! I jumped to a conclusion, should have consulted the books first or at least waited for the more knowledgable folk! Its all a learning curve!
  3. I would put money to Hericium cirrhatus, i have seen it on old beech logs looking pretty similar!
  4. can anybody see the wise old man in this vet castanea? look at the two round shadows just left from the centre low down
  5. I did 3 8ft conifers cut down and stumps dug out in 2 and a bit hours. Did it alone. Used a winch and left the stems long and as they went over i cut the roots. I don't think your attitude is right. Getting other quotes and then just knocking money off is not good and if I found out people did that to me I wouldn't have much respect for them.
  6. i think poeple are expecting worse and worse winters so are beginning to realise that there is a better way to deal with white stuff than a house brush and table salt. We just use a snowplough mounted on a tractor loader, and have access to one of the big gritting wagons if neeeds must!

    Movember

I would if my top lip would let me grow one. Grrrrr Some college mates are doing it. Happily donating!
  8. http://Www.interparcel.com Gives you quotes for a few couriers. Good prices too.
  9. The wages are low because it is legally a college (further education) and not a uni (higher education). So the maximum for a lecturer, no matter what quals they have, if they are titled as lecturer the wages aren't brilliant. If you start getting higher such as senior lecturer and researcher then that's when the numbers match. It's a shame really. Because people like Andy Hirons and Duncan Slater are brilliant teachers with a real love for what they do and have a great deal of knowledge.
  10. Sorry, misunderstanding. I do know about castanea. What I meant was only on the one type of oak. As the big oak at croft is a Q. petrea! I remember that one vaguely. I've seen so many since and as they were early days it's trickier to remember but I do a little bit. The two fruiting bodies in my pic above was on top of a pollard head. About 8ft from the ground.
  11. Tony, do you only note the reaction in only Q. robur? Picture 3 & 15 in this post: http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/fungi-pictures/28855-fistulina-hepatica-2.html#post547724 heres how theyve grown plus a couple others
  12. It's sorted now. I'm really pushed for time tomorrow and don't have much over half a day so wanted someone quicker than myself. Time is money!
  13. I need a guy tomorrow. Pretty simple job. Small reduction to do and some conifers to bash. St Helen's area Let me know please. 07841128366 or 07516348002 or pm me. Cash waiting. Cheers
  14. i pressed submit but took too long uploading the pics and it locked me out of editing. so you have to imagine them for now here they are
  15. excursion with a fellow uni-goer to croft today. I didnt actually take any pictures of the croft oak today, but ive got some from last time, I got some shots of Fistulinas that were small and emerging last time and now are mature and over matured. The fungi on croft oak (first pic) was about 12" across!. some other fistulinas included too, the last two fungi, both found on a beech stump, i am unsure of the ID, is one a Polyporus sp?
  16. Another job on. Want a climber as I need to sort ground based stuff! Reductions are on order so if preferably somebody who likes those. Only small trees so should be about half a day climbing. Let me know ASAP! Cheers 07841128366
  17. Wow. Very interested. But this has come at the wrong time Fir me. In about 8 months I'll be up for it 120%!
  18. Meripilus giganteus for sure. I wouldn't say it killed it but would have stressed it looking at the wood. Meripilus spreads through spores. Like other fungi. It will land on a wound of a tree and then start to decay its roots. Can be some bad consequences however trees can live with merip for a while before anything significant happens
  19. Small silky scratches leaving two red lines on my forearm. They are becoming less often now I've tamed my sugoi First time out with the sugoi it got my on my index and middle finger on left hand. Got a lump on my knuckle and a nice little scar on my middle finger. Had to come down as it would not stop bleeding! Gave the conservatory under the tree some nice red polka dots
  20. They fall to bits of you look at them funny!
  21. Muck truck and some ramps. Carried 5 times what I could in one trip and moved at a brisk walk. That was £25 a day. Bargain.
  22. i enjoy conifer work, just not the scratching.
  23. 'can you just?'
  24. I'll be adding to here at the weekend. Taking myself and a friend down to croft castle again Watch this space!
  25. I call myself an arborist. Short for Arboriculturist. Which is what we should all be calling ourselves. Every Arborist can be a Tree Surgeon. But not every Tree Surgeon Can be an Arborist
