  3. wow, apollogies for not seeing this earlier. i dont quite know what to say. thank you very much everyone, i sincerely am grateful to all of you for your on going support. sorry i havent posted in a while. things have halted a little at the moment as there have been some complications but i'm pleased to tell you i'm making good progress and the doctors are still sounding positive. i plan to give you a better update in the next couple of days as we are awaiting some results that will give us a clearer picture of what the next steps are to be. thank you all once again. dave

  8. haha classic! at least it will cut on the forward and back stroke now!
  9. haha, ive definately got too much time to think up these crazy ideas! funny you should mention the river, a canal boat just went down it.( something different!) back to the fungi, it will be interesting to hear peoples theorys on "misplaced fungi".
  10. now my knowledge of fungi id and bio mechanics leaves plenty to be desired but i'd like to throw a little something out there. i was looking at how the pholiota is growing out of that union and it got me thinking...... is it possible that as dirt and compost has collected in the union, could the stem have started throwing out little roots into this, thus the pholiota being up that high feeding off the new root system? if that makes sense! by the way, nice thread dave. i feel this could spark some pretty interesting conversation:thumbup1:
  11. cheers guys, it gives me great strength to know you are all still rooting for me. no idea on a time. they said this morning that i'm provisionaly booked to go back down to surgery on wednesday for exploratory surgery. i suppose they will then decide when they want to operate further when they know what needs doing. as i said in my previous post part of the muscle flap and graft didnt take so they need to explore it and make further decisions from there. so in short its going to be a fair while yet. still, its not a bad stay, i keep myself pretty well occupied and the teams here are really good.
  12. hi guys, sorry i hav'nt posted in a while. between surgery and a dodgy internet conection its been a little awkward to get on here and post. anyway i thought i would bring you all up to speed on recent events. last friday i had 5 hrs of surgery to close the wound up, the plan was to pull some muscle round to fill the space and then put a skin graft over the whole lot. as i understand it they managed to bring some muscle round from the back of the injured leg and also some from the top of the same leg to fill in the gaps including the void around the knee. they then took skin from the other leg to graft over the whole wound. the op really drained me for the next couple of days but after some good rest and a couple more units of blood i perked up alot. a week on i'm now back to my jolly self. unfortunately part of the muscle flap has failed and started to die off along with part of the graft but this is only a small portion of it and the doctors are pleased with how the rest is taking. the plan at the moment is to continue letting the rest heal up and then to get me back in surgery next week to correct the bit that hasn't taken. this could involve taking some muscle from my good leg or possibly my back but it all depends on how much has died off as it could still be taking well under the surface of the dead tissue. also the physios came round on thursday and got me standing with a frame. they then got me hobling across the ward with it but strictly no weight bearing on the injured leg. ive been out of bed today again to have a little hop to the window but at the moment i am only aloud to be up for 5 mins max and only twice a day. this is about right though as after a couple of minutes i am ready to get back on to the bed at that point. the good thing is it should get easier with practice but the draw back after i go back to surgery next week i will undoubtably be back on bed rest for a few days and this will mean starting from scratch again but then i do like a challenge. sorry its been a drawn out explanation but after all your good wishes and support i think a full update is the least i can do. thanks again everyone. dave.
  13. that was a close one mark, glad your cutter was alright. i trust this eventuality was already discussed in your original risk assesment, given that your cutter new to stand and make a noise like a tomato to blend in and avert a potentially devastating encounter.
  14. carry it in the first aid kit on the back of my harness.
  15. yeah you promised jugs and all we got was a load of walnuts! seriously though, impressive tree.
  16. thats real tuff, sorry to hear about it. dont let it keep you down mate.
  17. you dont know how pleased i am to hear that. no accident is good but if people can take something positive from it and potentially make a positive impact on other peoples lives then it hasnt happened in vain.
  18. pay attention, ask about ANYTHING you are unsure about and most importantly relax and enjoy. good luck.
  19. chainsaw all rounds, and i had exactly the same thoughts.
  20. wish him a speedy recovery. all things considered hes probably had a very lucky escape.
