  1. cheers guys, it gives me great strength to know you are all still rooting for me. no idea on a time. they said this morning that i'm provisionaly booked to go back down to surgery on wednesday for exploratory surgery. i suppose they will then decide when they want to operate further when they know what needs doing. as i said in my previous post part of the muscle flap and graft didnt take so they need to explore it and make further decisions from there. so in short its going to be a fair while yet. still, its not a bad stay, i keep myself pretty well occupied and the teams here are really good.
  2. hi guys, sorry i hav'nt posted in a while. between surgery and a dodgy internet conection its been a little awkward to get on here and post. anyway i thought i would bring you all up to speed on recent events. last friday i had 5 hrs of surgery to close the wound up, the plan was to pull some muscle round to fill the space and then put a skin graft over the whole lot. as i understand it they managed to bring some muscle round from the back of the injured leg and also some from the top of the same leg to fill in the gaps including the void around the knee. they then took skin from the other leg to graft over the whole wound. the op really drained me for the next couple of days but after some good rest and a couple more units of blood i perked up alot. a week on i'm now back to my jolly self. unfortunately part of the muscle flap has failed and started to die off along with part of the graft but this is only a small portion of it and the doctors are pleased with how the rest is taking. the plan at the moment is to continue letting the rest heal up and then to get me back in surgery next week to correct the bit that hasn't taken. this could involve taking some muscle from my good leg or possibly my back but it all depends on how much has died off as it could still be taking well under the surface of the dead tissue. also the physios came round on thursday and got me standing with a frame. they then got me hobling across the ward with it but strictly no weight bearing on the injured leg. ive been out of bed today again to have a little hop to the window but at the moment i am only aloud to be up for 5 mins max and only twice a day. this is about right though as after a couple of minutes i am ready to get back on to the bed at that point. the good thing is it should get easier with practice but the draw back after i go back to surgery next week i will undoubtably be back on bed rest for a few days and this will mean starting from scratch again but then i do like a challenge. sorry its been a drawn out explanation but after all your good wishes and support i think a full update is the least i can do. thanks again everyone. dave.
  3. good lad!!!
  4. that was a close one mark, glad your cutter was alright. i trust this eventuality was already discussed in your original risk assesment, given that your cutter new to stand and make a noise like a tomato to blend in and avert a potentially devastating encounter.
  5. well done mate
  6. carry it in the first aid kit on the back of my harness.
  7. yeah you promised jugs and all we got was a load of walnuts! seriously though, impressive tree.
  8.
  9. thats real tuff, sorry to hear about it. dont let it keep you down mate.
  10. you dont know how pleased i am to hear that. no accident is good but if people can take something positive from it and potentially make a positive impact on other peoples lives then it hasnt happened in vain.
  11. pay attention, ask about ANYTHING you are unsure about and most importantly relax and enjoy. good luck.
  12. chainsaw all rounds, and i had exactly the same thoughts.
  13. wish him a speedy recovery. all things considered hes probably had a very lucky escape.
  14. i had a load of these in my garden but i couldnt tell you what they are, sorry. probably best not to try tasting them though! lol
  15. going to sleep now, will keep you all posted. thanks again, dave.
  16. thank you huck, very kind words. while i feel a little modest to comment, you are right and i think it is important to stay focused and strong. for the sake of myself and my family i am determined to stay strong no matter what the outcome of this accident is to be. i constantly notice robert s signature on here (he who fears he will suffer, already suffers from his fear), it stands out because i have believed this same sentiment myself for years, and i think this applies in many ways right now.
  17. youre right steve and i done exactlly the same, we'll put it down to being busy and cold:biggrin:
  18. absolutely steve. had a feeling that would attract your attention, lol. would have spoke to you first anyway. hopefully it will serve as education to others and help stop something like this happening again. dont want people to think this is being done in a nuts/zoo magazine style way, i just believe a picture speeks a thousand words and hope everyone can take something positive from this.
  19. not the worst joke ive heard these past few days:sneaky2: examples like shake a leg and stand strong spring to mind. dont worry ive been getting plenty of abuse. as for nurses lets just say my missus looks on here and she'd kill me and right now i dont think i would do too good a job of out running her:001_tongue: but as far as pictures go i do have some of the gory graphic variety for the blood lusters of you out there (now watch the posts go crazy!) dave
  20. thanks again everyone. got back down to surgery today for exploration and another clean out and a different type of dressing that connects to a vac pac. however the dressing was un succesful and they had to re dress with a normal dressing back on the ward. it did though give me an oppertunity to re look at the wound and it does look a lot cleaner and tidier than it had looked when it first happened.... though still not exactly pretty! due back in surgery in a couple of days they said. many thanks again guys, dave.
  21. is he taking the mick? tell him the next one he shoots down in the stream HE can FETCH!
