  1. I'm off today with snow being as good a reason as any to drag out what work we've got booked in.
  2. Guy who assessed my CS40 had a Hilux with 2 rows of seats but not doors (i forget the proper name for them) with a good size tipper on that brit tip fitted. Good size tipper and he reconed second to none off road.
  3. from -9 to -2 here today. Not a problem when working but mucking about fixing things is much better in the warm!
  4. Unfortunately it seems my boss beat you to it! I'm sure one will come up for sale soon enough... Good machines, worth waiting for.
  5. I tried that last year, but could only find one £50,000 job and had to do 20p jobs for the rest of the year
  6. Cost calculations should be ralatively straight forward... every possible expence for the year divided by the number of days you expect to work. Everything beyond this is profit. My boss turns a team of 2 out (doing everything to the book) at £300 per day and thats making a modist profit. Would love to chare more like the £400 mark but the local market simply wont take it. Quote any more than £150 per man per day and someone or everyone will undercut you!
  7. I'd second that. Fantastic saws will rip through 25" timber no problem and light enough to use all day:thumbup:
  8. Just one from the end of an easy day. Climbed up and took a major limb of to make sure it was going away from the house then my boss with some help from myself felled into a field. This was the only pic that came out ok, the bloke in charge of the camera failed to video it!! Thankfully we're not cutting up the metal ridden trunk. Reason for fell was it had lost a third of its crown a few years back and was now heading into decline. Matt
  9. Interesting thread guys:thumbup: I've never even seen a comp, partly as i'm fairly new to tree climbing but partly due to lack of info and advance warning. Would love to see what goes on and may be even have a go. £100 seems good value for a well organised weekend event, I'd probably come along for some entertainment and to learn something at that price. Looking forward to seeing what happens in 2011... Matt
  10. Mine's Horticulture, which turns out to have taught me very little about arboriculture what so ever!
  11. hehehe:biggrin:
  12. Sorry guys, You're quite right. 2mm was for a big gandini chipper. Doh! I wasnt aware that the vermeer link was official yet but it seems to be the case, I believe they now have all the spare parts from Fletcher Stewarts
  13. A friend of mine said he'd set his to 2mm but you're best contacting Jo beau directly to be sure. I dont believe they have a UK dealer at present. Matt
  14. I'm yet to find another manufacturer with the finess and build quality of DMM. The only thing to be said against them for tree work is that the tollerances are so small that minimal dirt could cause issues, I've found this is easily fixed with regular maintanance though and will continue buying their products. I'd deffinitely phone them up though if you cant get them to work as they've always been a good friendly firm to deal with for me. Matt
  15. I've always been led to believe there is a proportion of petrol in GT85 and other spray lubricants. Is this truely safe with crabs containing plastic components?
  16. Cheers for posting that blaisey, haven't laughed that much in ages:thumbup:
  17. In general i find them to be fairly solid. I've been having problems with the bridge were it attaches to the shackles, the rubbery sheath bits keep sliding out of possition on the newer versions.
  18. My thoughts exactly, even if you just pole saw so you can see whats going on a bit better before you chose another method. Matt
  19. lucky escape! Good to see the ppe offers some protection
  20. If you do chose to go down the concrete route I'd highly reccommend Dale crete, we've had a fair few dealings with them and they're very helpful and the drivers are accommodating. Top folks to do business with!
  21. Looks like a good job to have! Thanks for sharing the vids Matt
  22. Entertaining few mins of telly. Good spot Rupe!
  23. I'd suggest a TU-16. We've never struggled pulling a tree down and have gotten some pretty phenominal stumps out. Matt
