  1. I'm a rock climber. There are a few knots that overlap but the main thing is mental attitude and trust in your gear i suppose. Enjoy you ariel rescue!
  2. Interesting suggestion. I shall have to get my thinking cap on....
  3. I see your point. If i went to just a figure 8 I'd be able to greatly reduce the gear required. I want to include a fail to safe system though as not everyone I work with is as switched on as I'd like all the time. Any thoughts anyone?
  4. Very thought provoking thread guys! I'm currently using this system shown. Sorry for the rubbish pic, will try and get a better one tomorrow. The SRT line runs through the fig-8 and prussic and would be locked off. The black thing these are clipped to is a hitch climber pulley. Which works for my purpose, entering the canopy before moving over to DRT. I also keep the same set of gear in my rescue kit where a groundsman may lower a casualty. In this instance the use of carabiners isnt really an issue as its always attended nor is the flop test really a problem. However I'm keen to move onto working on SRT or DRT with a floating anchor tied into my SRT line. This is going to require a rethink regarding the use of carabiners and I like the idea of something being flop test proof!
  5. Cheers hama! Just had a read of that thread, I really ought to get a copy of BS3998 2010 and work it out for myself!
  6. I like the reduction! Interesting point about making the playing field level for all contractors hama. What is the suggested method of specifying reductions now then as apposed to percentages? Are we talking about estimated distances? Refering more to leaf area? Certain parts of a tree targeted for heavier reduction than others?
  7. I bought a 2006 1.7l combo with 85000 mile on the clock just over a year ago. To be fair it was in very good condition, probably just used for deliverys rather than by a builder etc. i couldnt be more impressed with it! does everything I ask of it, cheap to run, tows well for its size and makes a good run about. Matt
  8. :001_smile:You learn something new every day!
  9. Cheers. Presumeably this is in its infancy and would show fruiting bodies in season to come?
  10. This is a pics a customer took a few weeks back showing an unidentified ... at the base of an oak tree. Its no longer in evidence but the area affected is as soft and spongy as anything (can easily stick a screw driver in about 2 inches with no effort). Initial guess is some sort of canker but I'm really just guessing. A search of the web doesnt seem to help too much. Any help much appresheated guys!
  11. LSK if i remember correctly... Fancy a bit of an srt sesh at some point? Bit of in line anchoring/rescue/hauling etc before the weather turns minging? p.s. sorry for the thread hijack guys
  12. Am I reading you correctly? I do remember you being thoroughly unimpressed with my srt setup a few months back! Coming over to the dark side?
  13. Is this possition still available? I'm a passionate climber with a particular interest in reduction work (i wouldnt claim to be any good at it but i'm learning) and would certainly be willing to move for an opportunity like this. Whats the time frame we're talking about?
  14. I will add, I've not tried the ap but it fells like good tough cord.
  15. 8mm beeline is great don't like the 9mm. I don't remember the why and wherefore's but they are almost completely different things. The 8mm is quite soft and takes a bit of fiddling about with the get the right number of wraps and braids, but once you've got it right it works and lasts well. Matt
  16. I posted it to terry tibbs who presumable passed it on to where ever it is now.
  17. A friend of mine had a similar problem which he couldnt tune up (he's pretty good with saws) and the dealer couldn't seem to rectify so he's returned it and got himself a 200t for now....
  18. Well, having been dropped in the deep end of freelancing since june all is good! Nearly booked solid until the end of october and a reasonable bit of winter work booked in.
  19. Top pics graham! Where abouts on the chase is it? might have to pop down and have a wander about
  20. Interesting thread! Best advice i've got (made redundant beginning of june) is whatever you get payed, earn your money and people will keep calling you up to work for them again!
  21. My experience is much the same. Seen pleanty of lads with quals but very little arb knowledge. Sadly this is all to common. I've been lucky enough to work with a few like minded people with a good broad knowledge of trees and the environment, nice to know its not all doom and gloom! Matt (age 23 )
  22. I can highly reccommend eberspatcher heaters, the new ones are really quite fancy! Not cheap though.
  23. Fraid i cant make dorset this year. Will be having a few drinks at another steam show at onslow park (nr shrewsbury) tomorrow Enjoy dorset jon!
  24. How would you use it to choke off against the stem? I'd try and avoid a karabiner due to cross loading issues and i dont fancy pulling my rope through the loop...
  25. I agree, I simply use a running bowline and add a abit more friction to my normal climbing system. I just thought I'd share the video as food for thought!
