  1. Sounds like you have a lot of trees with good reasons to prune ?? why is that, all trees have their optimum size when mature, unless its for a good reason, and not just because you think your trees need pruning, or that your kind neighbour has told you to prune your trees, or for fruit propagation, best not to prune ( wound ) as it provides the ideal entry points for pathogens , and stimulates excessive regrowth , and a tree will endeavor to re assume its optimum size beyond the point of abscission and then some, what you could end up with is an unhealthy or vigorous tree, which will require ongoing management ( Which really means future expenditure and costs, thats if you intend to stay ) Just to put my point across. Think carefully before pruning, and only do it for a reason.

    Stihl ms 201

from what i have read seams good, its out any time now and about £70 more than the current 201, so im waiting for the new one , any day now.
  3. I would say the very least you should do is be very clear with your subby as to what you expect and where you perceive your limits of liability to be. Be prepared to pay a little more if they hold insurances to cover your work , and confirm with them who pays . I make it very clear with all my clients in the first instance, i also hold PI so in a lot of instances when subbing if the owner of the tree asks advice from the contractor i am working for, if they don't know, and if they don't mind me advising , i advise, and its also covered by my PI.

You on about the old 201 or the new m-tronic 201, i'm just about to go for one. m- tronic that is .
  5. I just love the way the jo beau spins the 700s into a stump, down to 500mm below ground level, and the fact i can load it and transport it on the back of the Landy. At around 600kg pound for punch it must be one of the best around.
  6. Best advice by far, a re ground tooth is never the same as a new one, for all that effort, get Greenteeth use them for the 3 turns and sell them on. Deans also got the new ones which huach out the wood really well.
  7. I've been buying direct from Germany of late, i think as long as we are part of the EU we are going to be held to ransom .
  8. A lovely detailed interpretation , a gifted explanation, i wish i was able to be so eloquent.
  9. Regrowth is dependent on a tree's natural ability to regenerate from a coppice, most native species will regenerate from a ground level cut. Best way to naturally decay a stump after being cut to ground level, cover with black polythene. Just treat with SBK, or cover with black polythene
  10. Will try and dig out some of my old reading list, its a great subject. Growth regulators , you can find a lot on a simple google search. Chapter 5 - Growth Regulators - Forest Biology and Ecology ...
  11. Not wishing to take anything away from you fella, that was a lot of work for what will be a very , very short gain, from every pruning cut five or six new very vigorous shoots will develop, in the first year each competing new shoot could put as much as 1m regrowth on. Well done for creeping around the crown and reaching those points, but for me its something i would never recommend on a Gum.
  12. Here's one for you Pseudomonas syringae pv. morsprunorum , ... why is it, with all the plant health passport regs and so called nursery checks, is it still possible to go into any DIY or trade nursery and find this disorder to be present on all the Prunus stock.
  13. Thanks again Dean, had a real flush of work come in, all tricky access , look at the depth the Jo Beau goes, 70" stump across ... gone, all but for the lateral root that went under the wall, When are you going to start a Jo Beau only thread .
  14. I worked for active 2 x summer seasons on the trot, never worked so hard in my life, apart from my real 10 man years as a RM, OZZ was hard, if it was not for the conditioning in younger years afforded to me by HM forces the VB and tooies would of killed me, everyone else was on the bong, never did like smoking, specially bubbling in through a half filled glass dragon, they are all nuts out their. I was the only one getting drunk on beer.
  15. Thats a fair one, and i have not met you yet Pete B, but with Deano being right on top of things , and selling what i think is currently the best uk products on the market , its a hard one to follow. See you at the next trade fair
  16. Mentally i'm 23, physically its another story....
  17. Should've said , its my 3rd large purchase of Dean, and my 2nd Jo Beau b31-110, very please with the prices and aftercare, and trade in values.
  18. I've had about the lifetime of a young man in the industry, 25 years, in that time i have had a few problems, questions, queries, purchased a lot of machinery and sold a lot . In all my time i have never found anyone to be as passionate, knowledgeable and helpful as Dean, if Dean does not get back to you there is a sound reason, he will in time, the man is passionate about all things that destroy wood, and in providing the best service possible. He is also totally reliable . I am a naturally very suspicious pearson, trust no one, normally, i first started fruiting with Dean some years ago and was very impressed back then with his passion for stuff, he was the first to introduce the concept of a swivel grinder in the uk, look how far he's taken that, just ask stump busters ! back then i also tried to get him to import me a Jo Beau as i was having all sorts of problems trying to buy one from within the uk. Eventually i had to pay top money and buy through vermeer who really did not want to sell me one, and Jo Beau would not sell me one direct or to an unauthorized dealer . Now Dean is the appointed uk sales rep and is punching the Jo Beau concept forward, he has also managed to get Jo Beau to drop their prices, the same grinder now a Jo Beau B31-110 has just cost me nearly 2k less than i paid with Vermeer almost 2 years ago. Hats off to Dean and Global and Jo Beau for changing dealers to someone who shares their passion.
  19. The truck in the photos, word of mouth around my area, i have been around for a long time. I also try that little bit harder to get stumps out, and i do dig a lot out by hand, and that can take a special mindset, turned up on a site the other day with a spade and said i would dig them out, the 2 young lads just laughed, then watched me dig it out 18" cherry, took about 50 mins.
  20. I also use it to gain height when i can back the truck up to a stump, this one was on a really steep bank with loose soil. Photos taken yesterday first day out with new Jo Beau, every job was like it, high raised and awkward, 4 different sites covering Dorset and Somerset, nice day out, grinder was fantastic, just like my old one.
  21. Do you really think that has any relevance, if it was a cash job , and you were electrocuted because of an incompetent installation, would that stop your wife from seeking compensation, its not about you being wrong or negligent , in cutting through the cable, its my questioning was the cable in the correct place? if not you can not be held accountable, you can be held accountable if you then try to cover up something which you should have raised at the time of discovery , if the cable is too shallow its not your fault. Simple. just tell it how it is and don't try to waffle.
  22. Mate, what depth were the cables, ? have a look at NJUG10 there is an updated utility guide but for me if the cables were not installed in accordance with those guidelines i would just make your client aware of the irregularity and tell them to take it up with there service provider, you could put it all in letter form and quote the specifications from the guidance, ( Cable depth installation) and reference it. You could even contact the service provider directly . I would need to dig out the spec to tell you what depths they should be at, remember, if you just go repairing something that you are not authorized or qualified to do you will be opening a whole new can of worms, regs are there for a reason it just takes a little time to read them. I include a reference to them on all my risk assessments, if services have not been installed correctly i will not be held accountable.
  23. No different just new, Dean did me a fantastic deal on the two grinders, this is the 3rd machine from Global Recycling, great company to deal with, also if you look after your machinery the residual value remains really high, plus i have just had to spend some money from the vat man, 4 years worth.
  24. Thanks Dean, really pleased, great service and bang on time
