  1. Yes thanks I know that one, but its the others ? I just took it for granted over the years that by law you had to have them, PL, is the one I suppose i'm really digging at. To think i'v been tendering for LA over the years and the awarded company ,who has undercut my prices, has no insurances at all is really grating me a little.
  2. Yep thats it , I was going to go into a big story about that , its the trees reaction to the Bactria , shutting down the Xylem and Ploem cells which kills the tree. I like that bit, sort of sticking two fingers up to the Elm bark beetle in defiance .
  3. Thanks but you missed my main question , uk Law. Working, employment, advising . or PL, EL, PI. IS IT Law to have to have it in place. Not all of them, just whats relevant to what service you provide.
  4. Not reportable, but did you know that its not the Beetle which causes the death of the tree, the tree commits suicide.
  5. As an ex RM With an appetite for food, and a climber , hard grafter, 6000 would be what I'd like to consume , just so as not to run out of steam.
  6. Short answers please, As contractors what insurances do you have to have in place to tender for works in the UK. BY LAW. I have always held the full Monty, but have recently found out that some of my LA competitors have none. !!!!! is this a case of underhanded dealings or have my own values over the years been misplaced.
  7. Ryobi, the build quality is second to none and I really mean that, the performance by far out performs the ms 200 or 201 hands down
  8. If you want to carry on working for him, take it on the chin , sounds like you are not really self employed , more of a convenience arraignment with your boss, to his convenience, set your own standards .
  9. Anthracnose of weeping willow. And friends .

    Whisky

As a 14 yo boy I drank the best part of a bottle of Baileys Irish Cream, I have now got a hard stomach but the thought still turns my insides,
  11. That will be a very good workout , especially so for a Monday morning , get rid of all that beer, great detox
  12. This has been a long term ailment , but not a terminal problem , I think if 50% of the mistletoe was cleaned out , next year the tree would look a whole lot different even if theirs a repeated drought, but I would still like to see what the extension growth was like before making a judgment .
  13. Good on yer, I think above all, 99.9% of all TO's are batting on the same side, openness and transparency and a desire to do what's best for the amenity is all that they try to achieve , brown envelopes, that's not the TO's its the planners .
  14. Wow, symbiosis at its best, partial function is still occurring, I suspect that the tree next spring will still come into leaf, just drought this year and the parasite causing early leaf abscission (and a whole host of other pathogen's) , road side tree, ?, Toni ? me , I think i'd like a close look at the buds first call and make recommendations from that. If we chop everything down just because of early leaf abscission we could be living in a very baron environment . Don't all shout at once, form a queue
  15. Yes...... but on reflection it probably repelled more clients than attracted, not that I cared, its just the stance I took, never afraid to discuss specifications with the TO, or try to advice the client of a better alternative to topping or unnecessary losses , that is the great thing about the relationship I have with my TO's and not just my local ones. I'm always saddened by most peoples perception of a TO, clients tend to be ignorant of the benefits they represent and contractors tend to be fearful of decisions they may make which often they think will bring about a monetary loss. Being a TO must be one of the hardest jobs ever, I take my hat off to em
  16. I also have a link on the website straight through to the Council .
  17. Those who do have a good relationship with their TO's could all do it, I often reference mine by name and give their number as support or for additional unbiased advice, for the client that is.
  18. Have read most of all this, my take, don't loose any sleep over this, try to be the very best boss you can, be understanding, and never loose your rag, we have all made muc ups in our time in the industry, you need to concentrate on developing your image as a quality company to work for, set your standards very high and stick to them, but above all as well as being a boss, you need to be a best mate , shoulder to cry on, quality controller , health & safety freak, Arb nurd , P&D as best you can, perfect people skills, able to drink most people under the table, able to fight like a lion, able to be diplomatic when needed, always be prepared to apologize, remember staff come and go and all can whisper comments, think about it , you are only one , staff represent many voices. Tell him on the way to work how you feel, cus its a long walk home by the end of the day, things should be ok, you could even ask him, if you got a Mobile splitter would he take on the challenge of developing it as a business venture 50 50 you supply the kit and just split the profit .

    Predator 38

Jo Beau 31-110 and since using it that's how i'v come to the conclusion that as well as the Predator being unreliable the reason why they all seem to chew up belts, blow clutches and wear out bearings so quickly is the cutter wheel concept , its too aggressive and with an inexperienced operator very easy to damage machines, I found the Jo-Beau to be a much more forgiving machine, Greenteeth 700 reds on it work really well and as they are set up if you are working it on manual a bit too hard the head instead of bogging , snapping a belt, or engaging the auto stop on the cutter wheel , it will sort of ride over the lump of wood, still chiselling, but with a little flexibility. Its very user friendly, and has an auto function as well. If you keep it when the warranty is up think about fitting a round balanced cutter wheel, with Greenteeth.
  20. I like it, and its good to see someone in Local Authority who is obviously passionate about trees and looking beyond short term resolutions to issues that once the works have been carried out never last much beyond one or two growing seasons before needing to be addressed again and usually have long term adverse affects on the trees health and development and the clients pocket.
