  1. My prediction of the future main species which will take over from Ash, Oak and Beech if allowed to develop as a standard and not be constantly flailed is Acer campestre as trees go its rock hard and well underrated as a tree of form within our landscape. Not tall but in this day and age thats not a bad quality.
  2. Jokes aside now, this one made me remember the good old days, when I first set up just after the peak of DED (1997) i THINK, at the time I was very drunk, all day and all night, having just left RM for the second time, did tree work also when I left the first time, anyway , second time got a cherry picker and chipper, we were bashing out Elms at a road side price of £10 small,£20 medium, £30 large. and those with a bit of age will remember how our landscape once looked, a mass off roadside Elms, which from the view of a car gave the impression of a very uk wooded landscape, all now lost, DED devastated our landscape, we made a small fortune but I would give it all back just to see that landscape again , NOW, as you drive along the lanes and roads, take a few moments to look up and of all the significant road side trees count how many Ash you see, ??? the prospects are looking very bleak .
  3. I only charge £50 per tree regardless of size or position or value of target.
  4. To follow on, think about P&D Inonotus hispidus, Perenniporia fraxinea, then also ask could this mature Ash be one of the few immune trees to Chalara fraxinea, do whats best for the tree in its long life and not whats best for the passing fad of an occupier of a house who may only be their short term. I'm not a dictator just like to post my own view.
  5. Crown reduction to a mature Ash tree..... Why? whats the point ? and who recommended that ? what on earth are they hoping to gain, very short term light improvement followed by massive regrowth which within one year will compound problems of any intended light level improvements , ?
  6. In short me old cocker, you are being shafted by your mate
  7. OK not freely, but hopefully with an agreed discount, but with an easy link to find it, why is it that all things that begin with 'Tree' are so expensive, the reading list could be graded at specific levels of learning so as not to over complicate the list or cost to those looking for knowledge specific to a learning level. We have knot Guide, Chat, and other similar mind stuff, so why not a short reading list, could even be based on Tech cert . Could also link into what Tony has built up.
  8. In fact , what about having as well as all the other links across the top of the home page a reading list, with links to how to get the best deals or discount prices, on readings . Fungi link works great so what about a book list ?
  9. You would think that this being a dedicated Arb forum tree related British Standards would be on a page for all to click on and reference. That's ALL the standards. It should be a one stop site for all information , links , Plus, all good Arbs should have them to hand and be able to recite them word for word,
  10. Mark has hit the nail on the head, lets just say you took payment , your turn to have your name on the invoice, you all go home, great day, lots of pennies earned, tax man has a bad day, all happy, First case scenario, 6 weeks later your LPA make enquiries as to who pruned the TPO'd tree with out permission ? YOU, next one 6 mths later subsidence, next one just after you finished the job, just before you went to the pub, some one tripped and hurt them selves , while watching TV 18 MTHS later after seeing ' Have you been injured and not your fault ? ' I hope you see where this is going, you may even been asked on the day of the job by the client , is that tree safe, will it effect my house, are those leaves poisonous, will it effect my drains the list goes on, while the first years insurance may be expensive it should be incorporated into your costing's for work , I can't believe any one would skimp on this one. just so you don't think i'm coming down hard on you, I suspect their are lots on arbtalk who are under insured BUT NOT ME I VALUE MY HOME TOO MUCH.
  11. Why driven, ? , its not the drive that makes grinding any easier, its the sweep that makes it a work out. If price is a consideration look at the Jo Beau B13 - 80 its got pivot function , greenteeth and the head is at a great angle, thats going to be my next investment, I run a B31-110 at the moment and its a fantastic bit of kit, and the B13-80 will just complement the tracked machine. I have over the years had a number of grinders so know a thing or two. Lots to consider, good luck.
  12. I'd say get permission to plant first with clarification on fruition .
  13. OK, you are correct, but think about all that I have said, then lets look at the tree, vigor, needle retention, dead wood, upper canopy condition, would remedial works resolve any short term concerns, and thats in tree life not passing ownership of property. Fantastic tree and yes I know all things come to an end, but in this instance will it be in your life time ?
  14. Should of also said take the time to read NHBC Chapter 4.2, those were the regs building control would have been working to when that house was built, make enquirers with your own LA , GO IN THE OFFICE AND ASK BUILDING CONTROL, foundation depth of that property, taking into account that tree, hopefully the building control officer will still be alive, or his side kick, and they will provide you with details of precautionary measures taken to prevent subsidence issues occurring, hope that helps a bit more.
  15. Lets also throw this in, it could also be that the Amenity Value of the tree, depending on its structural and physical condition is of a greater value than that property . Try to forget about the lean unless its just developed .
  16. Failing any defects with the tree I don't think you would get permission to remove, also looks to have a high amenity value, would also suggest that its removal in one would create subsidence problems, Direct or Indirect related problems could result, but may take a number of years to reveal. Very good example of very poor planning consent .
  17. Just take it down, keep a record of all your enquirers, photograph the tree before hand, and leave a note stating the reasons and that the arising's (In chip form) have been retained off site and may be retrieved up to 28 days from date of removal. Beyond that date they will be disposed of accordingly.
  18. Nice, how great was that ? what happen'd to my invite ? its great that Bandit invited you, all to often its closed doors
  19. Thanks for sharing that moment in time of your life, its great to see mrs treebus enjoying life with an Arbornort , life is far too short, enjoy every moment , my kindest regards to you both.
  20. Classic , and always, but i did miss the tide today and have to wait in the Cobb arms for it to come in see you soon, looks like i may be on the tools again in the autumn.
  21. Just for a comparison , I will get TMT to photo me back arch flexing over a stick of Cedar, I too was once a Gymnast .
  22. Now i,v seen first hand how much you eat and drink , 2000k by first break, then lunch, then tea, then how many Ciders ? you suddenly gone on a diet ? that doesn't include your meal out or your night time drink allowance
  23. Paint you wagon, great for a sing along with a Cider, but I do like, being a big softy, True Love, really like the bit when Denis Hopper tells the story about how the Italians where impregnated by the Mormons and how the tan evolved He then had his head blown off. Why ?
  24. You are one lucky lucky lucky lucky lucky lucky lucky lucky lucky lucky lucky lucky chappy to have so much wood, and how fortunate for you to also have such a lovely partner , and so flexible for mrs Treebus, Made my day, green with envy.
