  1. Both our valtra’s have patu cranes mounted on jake frames, lower centre of gravity but less rear vision, supplied by Jim @ Caledonian forestry, mark at A T Osborne’s likes to add to the system that fixes the demount part as he has experienced them coming loose, we have 1 that stays solid and 1 older that needs bolts tightening regularly
  2. Yes it is the best way to sharpen, Coolant and angle very important, don’t try to rush it.
  3. Here’s a couple , not mine! but over the road and from the café at thursford

  8. 1. I had a brother inlaw work with me once and he got stuck with a black thorn, although we and he could see no thorn remaining ( quite often a little triangular bit breaks off the end and stays behind ) a similar swelling and great pain was experienced, his finger looked like a big cooked cheap sausage! Orrible. He was prescribed antibiotics by his GP but took a few days to subside. Good luck in getting it sorted . ps if any one can suggest gloves that do work, even when wet, for thorn, berberis pyracantha etc. please tel us .
  9. I am tempted to say that as a machine to complement small log business this would be a good investment, the question is a little bit like ‘what have Romans ever done for us’ . a 100hp+ tractor with usable 3 point linkage fitted with a forestry loader and guarding could help extract timber & firewood from site deliver it to your yard, could power and load processor with wood you could not handle by hand and possibly load the finished product into your transport, you may be able to offer your services to local woodland owners and benefit in getting a supply of cord wood at preferential rates, the tractor its self can also be used for any of the tasks usually carried out by tractors and may supply an additional income stream, all this and more especially if it was sold for the above price even if it did not work out for you you could sell it for a profit!
  10. luv the next vid on!!
  11. Shame I’ve just winched our dead 8000 onto the back of a lorry today to be fixed ! . I think if I’d have seen this at auction it would be in my yard not where it is now. Where was it auctioned?
  12. Valtra 8100 ? Used Valtra 8100 this may be the answer
  13. ditto above + fatal error for last day or so trying to log on
  14. Forgot to mention you may need to use weight at rear of mog if using front mount chipper to balance the unit unless you have rear mounted implement
  15. In my opinion 550 is one of the best you can get, if you have the chance to purchase it ( possibly by selling your other 1? ) 1600 and 550 is one of the best combinations you can have .
  16. Both Alex Price AC Price Engineering - Home and Frank Atkinson Atkinson Vos Ltd Mercedes Unimogs have good knowledge of what is possible and may have 2nd hand chippers to match, worth a call
  17. How about making life easier and getting a front mount schliesing 400u or 550u, fit direct to din plate and c/w drive to match mog pto, good chippers to
  18. I found out the other day that when using chipper at jack knife angle to truck that without corner cut away you can not direct chip into back of vehicle !
  19. Looked good at APF the other day, solid , I think the one at the show was sold so there may be some one to ask, there was one thing I thought was a bit? But can’t remember what it was now, if it springs to mind I’ll let you know. Good luck with decision! Cheers J
  20. I,m interested poss 2 people
  21. 5.4 ton
  22. Overheard a rumour today, I have no more into though
  23. Went along and had a look in at both of this years carving events, Sandringham good but with not enough cash audience to make the auction at the end a good result for all the final pieces, some good works of art struggling to get starting bids of 100 /200 ! shame , 1 or 2 sold well. Westonbirt hopefully will be a cracking day today ( Monday) some fantastic works having finishing details put to them and with the auction at the end of the day. and of course the arboretum, not enough hours in one day to see it all. Ps good presentation by Arbs at the show in the arena, not easy to be good at this type of work and be able to stand in front of a crown and give an interesting and understandable presentation of how, why, and the machinery used in the trade, interesting to see that ‘ friends of westornbirt’ have funded quite a few items of machinery used on site.
