  1. Indeed it does, but how we deal with it speaks volumes about character.
  2. They rarely did before the electric fence.
  3. Makes a change from raw chicken.
  4. Or left one.
  5. I never worry about my cat killing things. He's normally too busy licking his hoop in front of the telly.
  6. Looks like Ganoderma australe to me but I'm no expert
  7. My, how times have changed.
  8. I've got the Echo cs450. Nice saw, can't fault the build quality.
  9. Same here.
  10. To be fair, they gave the customer a discount on tarmacking the driveway on the way out.
  11. Very good advice.
  12. <p>Hi mate. Hope things are good with you and yours. Made my escape from the Taj Mahal on Friday. <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/smile.png" alt=":)" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> Looks like I have the next 6 weeks covered so I wondered if you fancied a trip up to the APF on Friday 19th? I don't mind driving as I still have their truck lol</p>

  13. Looks like I have the next 6 weeks sorted and stuff starting to come in for winter. PM me or call on 07739 556764 if you need a reliable grafter with their own kit for those bigger jobs.
  14. Any business relationship which involves paid labour is reliant on respect and considerate behaviour from both sides. As soon as either party takes the pee, it starts to fall apart.
  15. Speaking personally, I am a free lance groundie myself and I think the behaviour in question here is very poor. If the boot was on the other foot, how pleased would the groundie be if the OP kept cancelling without notice, especially if he told the groundie that he was earning enough to sack off a day's work without caring? Some of us don't do bad. You just need to show that you give good value for the money.
  16. Give it time.
  17. Well, unless you can get by on working 4 days a week, you need somebody who will be more reliable. TBH, your groundie must think you are a bit gullible to believe him when there is such an obvious pattern to his absenteeism. For our sort of business arrangements to work, both sides need to respect each other and he sounds like he is extracting the urine.
  18. Assuming your groundie is s/e, find a new one.
  19. Is it a vole? Not sure from the angle. Great pic all the same. Not too sure about the short tubes in the foreground either, as we did use a range of sizes but I don't remember them being sorted like that. You would have to ask Will as I was subbed in on his job. I do remember the spec being regular rows to allow mower access between but making a more wavey edge to create a more natural effect.
  20. Hi Kev! You are spot on with the location. I reckon we planted them right at the end of the planting season for 2010/2011. We had a very dry summer after we planted and I was pleasantly surprised to see such a good survival rate, especially given the clay soil. Funnily enough, Lisa and I drove past them on our way to the Mercury in Colchester on Friday evening and I was telling her about our discussion on the journey. BTW, you were spot on about the Donkey pub name.
  21. As people may have read in the employment section, I am no longer connected with this site near Ingatestone but I can give contact details for anyone who wants to tip there. I am still looking for clean chip for the charitable trust aerodrome site at Stow Maries if people would be kind enough to help us out there.
  22. All up to Tom's for a bit of pike fishing then.
  23. I can't tell you masses Tom but Shetlands are great boats. If the engine with it is sound, I'd stick with it and buy a smaller one as a back-up. I believe that if you plan to use the engine in salt water, it needs to be 'marinised' to prevent corrosion damage. Nice buy!
  24. I hope so. I need somewhere to drop Geoff off.
  25. After spending the last 2 years as an estate manager (albeit in a very hands-on capacity rather than an office one), a happy coincidence of my becoming increasingly bored with the routine of what I was doing and the upturn in the job market has led me to go back to free-lance groundie work again. I'm based in Maldon, Essex, with my own transport and I am happy to travel reasonable distances. I have all my own kit, PPE and saws etc, and am old enough to get on with the job without checking my phone every 5 minutes. I have a clean pre-97 driving licence and a fair amount of experience of rigging work which I really enjoy. I am just as happy doing planting work, whether trees or hedges. I'm also very good at dealing with difficult customers/ members of the public, as several members on the forum can testify. If you need a hard-working, experienced pair of hands on site, pm me or call me on 07739 556764. Thanks for reading.
