    I can definitely recommend James Lee Burke as an author. He writes about a character called Dave Robicheaux, a parish police officer just outside New Orleans. I have read all the ones I can find and often go back to re-read them.

    Will give it a try when I'm back in on Tuesday. Must admit, I wasn't looking at battery as the culprit as it failed suddenly rather than over time. I found a buggered connecting block at first and repaired that but no success in solving the problem.

    Went to double check that the solenoid was clicking yesterday and got nothing. I pulled the battery to charge it as I found it was flat and left it on charge all last night. It hadn't fully charged this morning (charger light was amber rather than red or green) but I hooked it up as it should have had enough charge for a couple of tries. When I turned the key I got nothing, not even solenoid clicking.
