went away last friday for a weekend of family time. got a call thursday night "can you drop me some logs off this weekend, we've run out" as it was a new customer i agreed to deliver friday morning (as i was away for the weekend), the address was literally 300 yds from our yard so just nipped em down on the teleporter. mahoosive house, his n hers rangeys on the drive. put the crate virtually up to the shed ( one cube softwood £60) knocks on the door. "your logs are here, if its ok, i'll pick the crate up on monday" "no problem" says the customer, "i'll pay you then..." "sorry, but i did say its CASH on delivery" "we haven't got enough cash in the house" "ok a cheque will do then, thank you." "we haven't got a cheque book" "i'll bring the logs back when you've got either" was all i could think to say "if you put the logs in the shed, i'll nip to the cash machine (about 20 mins away) losing my rag a little now.. "i'm not being funny buddy, but i've got the wife, and two excited kids sat at home waiting for me to get back, i told you i could do the logs first thing as we're going away for the weekend, i haven't got time to stack your logs, get home, showered, and changed. if you want the logs, fine, if not, i'll be off" the customer then starts to get shirty "if you want the £60 you'll stack em for me" "wrong statement buddy" took the logs back. parked the 'porter up. went away the family have just moved into the village. already upset me, the local garage, the nicest shop keeper you'll ever meet, and the landlord of the only pub for miles......... don't think they'll stay

bloody hell. we paid i think £70 for our last 20ltr can of clinic ace, CWG. they've got depots in worksop newark or sleaford

we used to have an old piece of conveyor belt, cut to size, fastened to the rear of the pickup back, piece of rope through the front. when you wanted to unload, you just tied the piece of rope to something and drove forward. the old pit belt cost me £10.

give em a price for taking the tree down and removing brash from site a price for ringing up then tell them, you'll come and take away ( for free) all the rings they don't want after splitting a few 4/5' dia rings, they'll soon get fed up

mine get em in whatever size they're cut to. the bigger the ring the smaller the thickness :lol:

Dean, i'm up for your idea of a test case. If we all chuck £20-00 in a pot. the first one of us to be taken to court gets his costs paid.. Easy !!!!!!!!

concrete blocks might be cheaper dean. our local bricky charges £1.00 per block to lay em thats £10 per mtr Sq. if you said they were £1.00 per block to buy and say £1.00 per block for the mortar that equates to £30 per mtr sq in total so your 6m x 1m works out at £180 just thought.....footings....forget i said owt

was going to put the chipper on the back too, but was running out of time :lol:

made it half for a laugh, and half serious. stands me at all of £500 so it'll never owe me owt. not sure of the GTW Rob, i'll check when we eventually get any daylight once the chipbox is made for the tranny, the decent sides off it are going on the trailer get the lot stickered up and it'll be as much an advertising piece, as a work piece. also be useful for fetching the empty log crates back, very bulky, but weigh nothing

Picked this up from a mate of mine today. Last pic is whats left of the tranny it came off Not done by any of mine.......thank goodness plumbing it all up tomorrow so i'll put more pics up when it actually tips again

don't be toooooo choosy as to what you do to start with!! i've had subbies come for a couple of days tree work, then, when offered a couple more days gardening (at the same rate) they've turned their noses up. swinging a strimmer around is a damn site easier than swinging around in tree !!!!!

done a few 'cliff face' type jobs on the rail. we were told that our 38,39 tickets covered us.... what do you lot think ?????? we loved it buttock clenching when the winch ropes slipping as a trains passing :lol:

its 8.30pm on a saturday evening. i've just got out of the shower after finishing work. not 'paid' work, spent all day doing the jobs that my lot don't see. re-painting the new steelwork on the tipper trailer, re-wiring the ifor's lights, servicing four of the saws, tidying the container coz i couldn't find any of the spanners. paper work, and MORE paperwork in other words, doing the jobs that keep us ticking over at a nice pace. i think if you actually worked my hourly rate out, a tenner an hour wouldn't be far off. and thats not including buying all the kit, vans, trailers, chipper, saws galore, climbing kits, insurances, fuel etc, etc, etc roll on the good times........ :lol:

if its all one frop we tip the crates into the truck. if its multi drop, or the client wants a split load, i.e. soft and hardwood, we just manually tip the crates off the truck at the drop. they tip over with a little persuasion then just lift straight off the logs QUOTE:" I know its a bit more money but an AVANT" not just A BIT more cash though is it Jay ??? i'd love one, or even a BOXER, unfortunately, cash, as always is tight. anyone giving one away, please email, call, or just shout...... thanks

our first truck was an LDV. 2.4 banana transit engine and box Best truck i've owned..... Got an '04 crewcab transit as well now and its not a patch on the LDV Ok..its quieter, faster, and more economical, but still not a patch on the LDV or 'P i key Bus' as its known localy. Had a new clutch and cable when we first got her, other than that, nothing... Gets serviced every 3000 miles....and abused most days. If LDV hadn't gone bust, put two doors on their crewcab, and a faster engine. i'd have had one in a shot.

i'll second trust. brilliant !! no stupid questions about what % of your work is at what height etc
