  1. Without knowing your personal circumstances it's hard to comment on certain aspects. However, if you are up to your neck in debt, have recently returned from a expensive holiday, are saving for house extension or kids university fees looming, and if the job could not have been rearranged for a day or two later, and the client is a major contributor to your workload then its justified that you were trying to sustain income both now and for the future to continue to fulfil your financial needs and went to work. The information given lends itself to believe that for you working is your hobby, so an opportunity came up for you to indulge in your hobby, you took the opportunity. One way to look at this would be to turn it on its head. Lets say you had huge job on where you need a second person, the job is in a very open public area, you needed a second pair of eyes. You had arranged with your gf to be there, keeping an eye on general public and watching your back. Nobody else could have replaced her as the job didn't financially justify a second man because you had to be competitive, nobody else was available anyway that you would trust. The night before the job your gf gets a phone call "hey, fancy going to a spa day tomorrow," your gf mates mum is not able to go and gf has been offered a day at a spa free of charge. She doesn't like stump grinding anyway so she says yes, turns to you and says you're on your own tomorrow, enjoy your day I'm off to the spa. How would you feel? There are many situations in life where we have to do things we don't want to. Where we can self justify"letting people down". Ultimately, you let your gf down, she will have some kind of scar from that. Human nature in some people will lend to their thinking that when events like this occur, they can't rely on some people. Only you know how good or bad this had gone down within your household. Only you know the extent to which you need to go to, if needed, to make things good, to explain and show your understanding but also how much the relationship means to you. Good luck, and of she is a keeper, don't under estimate the extent your apology may need to extend to.
  2. I had one on demo. Very effective machine. But regarding carrying it. It's bloody heavy. Took wheels off to get through house. Would not carry one again. Was god awful experience. Two of us carried it, but nearly hernia territory. Hedge cuttings were ok. But as with anything like this,a bit of patience and application of the brain and it keeps chipping away. Will buy one if job quoted for it comes in. It's on a island of a river, so boat will be used to transport across. Lifting it in should be fun, 300 plus kg lifted into a wobbly boat. Could be a wet one.
  3. A good line up of speakers listed. Anybody going?
  4. At a recent event held in Westminster gardens by the AA for the APPGHG, ALL PARTY PARLIAMENT GROUP FOR HORTICULTURE AND GARDENING, Kenton Rogers discussed the catalpas there and used itree to demonstrate to governmental members and relevant departments the value of trees in the urban environment. Consequently this has put the value of trees in the urban environment and the practitioners that manage them, very much on the political radar. A very significant development in the plight of maintaining the uk tree canopy. Those trees are beauties!!!
  5. Hi Sean, never met you before but your desire is inspirational. I'm glad that perennial contacted you. I mentioned it to the lady, Kate I think, at the arbshow just after your accident. I didn't know your full details but knew that David was in contact with you. Hope they have helped in someway. Keep the updates coming through. They help keep our selfish mindset where it belongs..Distant memories. Top lad 👍
  6. Does the tree merit b2 rather than one? Semantics in many ways but, it's contribution to the immediate landscape may bolster it's position within b category, as opposed to the criteria of one. As long as your categorisation is defensible and a logical explanation can be given then you can argue your case if need be. This has always been my take on categorisation within 5837 framework.
  7. Hi, I'm the chairman of the awg, we produced a set of t and c. You don't have to be a member. Go into help for arborists on AA website, it's all in there.
  8. Dave Dowson tree life, has a conifer key he's created. Email Keely ask her to ask her dad. It's good it works it's simple.
  9. According to my machinery repair timberwolf dealer, the fly wheels, anvil, side panels, roller boss, rollers, hydraulic oil and fuel tanks. If your questioning because you know otherwise, then great, you got any contact details. Cheers 👍
  10. Hi,I run a 1995 Ente. Just be careful that some of the parts are obsolete now. And that upgrade items are needed on certain age machines. I recently had the rollers on mine sharpened, new anvil, radiator acid dipped, runs like a dream now, and pulls break through like a new machine. But they aren't as cheap to bring up to scratch as you may think. Ring timberwolf hq and speak to technical department. They're really helpful.
  11. Try prabos, very comfortable and good tread retention. Personally found meindl to be hideously narrow, deem them the narrowest on market in my opinion.
  12. Tree kit course is meant to be very good. I know Paul Smith as techie attended recently and from what I can gather in conversation with him he was very impressed.
  13. Keith irvine plant near rugby puts out a good machine, or treebay Facebook group in Facebook, always kit in there
  14. I love the irony of the lyrics in the last song " now your gone". Without the stop button so are your fingers if it all goes wrong. Looks like good bit kit though, but if end product is not saleable, one of them. It seems a shame.
  15. Count the links
  16. If you are a student, join the arboricultural association. There are numerous discounts available to members from industry suppliers. It may be the case that you would already get said discount if you just asked. However membership to your industry trade association should assist in certain suppliers. Additionally it will help you to keep ahead of the raft of information currently being released pertaining to a multitude of topics. This quarters newsletter was a stonking edition. Additionally student membership is considerably cheaper. I started out with second hand boots and trousers. Mum was single parent and I only earnt twenty pound a day on a Saturday working for uncles forestry business which paid for petrol to get to college. Or college bus service. Second hand boots and trousers were in adequate condition. Did me fine. Can of odour eater in boots and the amazing concept of a washing machine freshened up the trousers. Saw so many new students get tiny snags in their trousers, you could see the tears in their eyes. Second hand it didn't matter so badly, and allowed me to buy books for studying. Just a thought like. Good luck and enjoy it. As fir helmets, some colleges have spares. You won't sweat that much at college as you will in work environment, so head band in helmet won't be that bad
  17. Cheers Steve.
  18. I've found similar things before when the black air tap fuel tank breather thing at top of fuel tank had deteriorated
  19. Great thanks for help
  20. Checking on phone, hard to see, but are there bore holes amongst the white mildew? The trees I've seen it on, it's often the case that the trunk in which the fungus present had become dysfunctional.
  21. What do you mean different? In the sense that what I think may be av mounts on saw may not be? Or that each of the three mounts look similar but have subtle differences so be careful when installing/selecting the mount? Thanks for response mark
  22. Just had quick search in maintenance threads but couldn't find much. To change the mounts under the carburetor cover and the one at the front near on off switch, do you have to dismantle the internal handle carb parts to saws? Or just unscrew and prize apart whilst quickly installing new part into position? I'd it a nightmare job if you don't know how to put the trigger handle back together properly? Any videos/links anywhere? Thanks
  23. One of the considerations to the 2,4,6. Route is that as you move through the various stages grades levels, the next element to your learning of each particular subject/topic is a step on from that at the previous level. It is presumed in the manner that the next grade up course progresses that elements of the knowledge have already been acquired. Where this hasn't been achieved, it can lead to significant strains and stalling in your studying. Additional too this though, if you are in a classroom of people who have the required previous knowledge then you begin to affect the progression of their studying, as tutor has to explain things to you. This in my opinion is not fair to the other students. When, in 2005, decided I wanted a level six qualification I assessed what I already had. A level 3 nd arb achieved in 1995. Having not studied for ten years and ran my own business i decided to go back to level 2 cert arb. Then tech cert, level four. I attended tech cert management day on October 7th2010, and started level six two days later. I was advised not to by tree life. They said consolidated your knowledge with consultancy experience. But i wanted level six with the management day element, not the qcf method. Level six pd arb does get easier with consultancy experience. One other thing that became apparent is that those who have a degree in a non related subject find it easier to write at level six standard in arboriculture than many that do not have degree. I mention degree, in another non related subject as degrees teach you how to write about subject at that level of academia.
  24. They do an all wheel drive version, single wheel rear axle. From about 2013-14 onwards.
