  1. i think also each persons position should be looked at individually to see what rules you fit into as taking generalisations that your running a similar setup to others may turn out to be totally different ? just my opinion
  2. no - the thread is about sale of logs and sale of logs is the sale of a product, whether forestry or not - if logs are being bought back for your own processing further or wood for milling etc then yes probably exempt - but VOSA/HMRC will always act as you have to show proof that the timber is yours, your taking it home to process it and not selling on. i am refering to sale of logs in the delivery vehicle (i.e. transit etc ), wether your a forester or not, delivery of logs is delivery of a product, forestry or not you are selling for reward and touching then on to haulage , so normal rules of 3.5t vehicles apply etc as in any other business, if you tow a trailer - dont exceed the max gross or yes you will need a tacho and then your into operators licence etc. forestry exemptions are whole different ball game, and mostly refer to tractors/forwarders etc - but i doubt cover a pickups with cut logs in delivering to joe bloggs down the road wehther 2 miles or 50 miles away - its haulage for reward! - dont even go there with forestry exemptions as you have to show you are a bona fide forester/contractor to move roundwood only to the place of process or your stacking point for process - not movingprocessed timber-i.e. you have a contact with a forestry owner showing the timber is yours and where the nominated stacking area is etc etc
  3. as i understand it, as long as the load and trailer dont exceed 3.5t gross, then no tacho, if more than yes need tacho, even for logs, chip or anything

    Bilke

enlighten us - whats the problems your having?
  5. lay out your builders bag and measure length x width x height - youll soon see its miles from 1 cubic metre (prob calculations are thus 90cmx70cmx70cm = .44 cubic metre), less than half a cubic metre - if some customers were to see 1 cubic metre of logs in a cubic metre drying net, they would see what a rip off builders bags measurements are! not dissing anyone - just trying to get us all to the standard dimensions - rant over (customer yesterday - how much 1 cube of logs - i say £60 - WHAT i got a quote for a cubic metre in a builders bag dropped off for £50 ! - you try and say thats not a cube its like banging your head on a brick wall - rant over
  6. if you can stack it on a few bearers, use a few of your 3' lengthways on the bottom then just place each billet on that, its easier than throughing in a pile surely - and then if you keep going along or a new stack next to it leave a gap and the air will circulate around all of it ensuring they all dry out even - thats what we do, when got time to do billets
  7. did anybody else think the felling cut was to high?
  8. weve had no end of problems with husky bars, with similar probs, not been dropped, always greased, turned, chain tensionsed properly - it seems ot be a husky bar problem - swopped onto oregan bars with renewable tips and there lasting well - if the time arises to replace it just knock the rivet out and fannys your uncle!
  9. beautiful - like having a work of art in the field:thumbup:
  10. no more than £200 imo - depends how its in the ground, some are just bang into the soil then what holds them down is the cover buried under soil at the edges, this is stronger than using concrete - someone we know who bought one second hand put his posts in concrete then attached the sheet to scaffolding boards along the bottom edge, in Oct 08 winds it took off like a kite pulling up the concrete and everything! the sheets are pretty expensive - pretty sure ours new in 06 was only £1000 complete, dont skimp on putting heat protection tape on the bars before new sheet, as it will give your sheet an extra few years life. hope this helps
  11. now now kindlett, dont start getting upety like with us and 76AR !! - if your customers are loyal theyll stay with you - dont worry competition is healthy - it keeps us all on our toes - we dont stop people selling logs and sticks around us - it just makes you improve your service - thats if perfection can be improved if you dont want competition - dont hire out your machine - simplessss
  12. i agree with mr bolam i think there will be alot more of this, now firewood is getting popular - we get asked alot for "can we keep the wood when youve cut it down "- we say yes, but it will be in big rings - splitting into logs will be extra - and we stipulate a price - but also get alot of can you cut my tree down - surely the cost of firewood out of it will cover your costs! - NO always best to cover whats happening with the wood before quoting - and also we hardly ever now do a job cheaper for the cost of the wood - been caught out before and it sometimes doesnt work out for the best:blushing:
  13. logbaron gets quite upset if i open forest journal before he gets to look at it - great mag and essential arb.s always a good one aswel
  14. dont worry mate youll get through it ok, Logbarons dyslexic and its never stopped him so far - just take your time and let your assessors now and theyll help if you need it - weve always found all assessors throughout both our careers in hort & arb. very helpful - best of luck !
  15. our accountant looked into this for us, its 5% if your selling as fuel direct to the person using te product as fuel - its 17.5% (or standard rate) if selling onto a reseller i.e. wholesale to gararges, coal men etc - as its classed as any other product to resell on , the reseller will then sell it on at 5% VAT as fuel to the end user - IF THEY ARE VAT REGISTERED - hope this clears it up
  16. 400+ nets of kindling sticks, cut and filled in bags £1.25 plus VAT (17.5% for wholesale supplies) filled with larch, which is drying out in the polytunnel - collection only please - if you want to sort couriers - please do this yourselves if you pm me with collection address etc. order now as we shall be putting our prices up for next season - these are 40x50cm mono nets filled very full, we retail at £3.50 can put on pallets, 100 on each pallet, banded and shrink wrapped for extra £20 for the 400 nets, to cover cost of pallet and shrink wrap etc - can load with forklift, onto 7.5t, trailer etc. This price is for 400 nets +, we can supply smaller quantities, please PM for prices, eg. 100 nets collected £1.50 each net. thanks - all enquiries please ring Rohan on 07970 040755 or answerphone on 01889 564519 (please leave message as he wont answer phone when felling!) pics posted to keep shrek happy:001_tt2:
  17. great tractor pics - why is the tyre on back to front on the rear of the roadless 75?
  18. bryant kesek - 1st class service, when ring up for amendments, additions etc, always done promptly - nfu for all tractors etc, local office very helpful
  19. we only stack when got time to do so, but we stack all our billets, when we do billets - use the cubic drying nets now, tip two into transit and away we go, less handballing:thumbup:- got to love a nice stack though
  20. well woodworm we all get em - a farmer friend of ours sell his firewood by his trailer and says hes delivering 3 tonne, because its in a 3 tonne trailer - but theres no more than in the back of my transit tipper - about 2 cube, the sides are low and the trailers only about 7 x 5 with foot high sides - trouble is the customers believe him!
  21. yes missed you also, were you hiding behind a pig sty?
  22. sometimes they go, sometimes they blow - would the bill for a jap repair be double tho? plus these missus's dont like driving anything other than discos do they - mrs logbaron loves her disco:thumbup:
  23. seen some cheapish county's on ebay with cranes on recently - you wouldnt go a miss with something like that ? - our disco i use for in the woods i thought would fail on everything on MOT, sailed through it - you cant right off those landies
  24. good old landies - wouldnt do that with that jap rubbish:lol:
  25. 3.5t, right in, but weve moved some big stuff and had it dancing off the front wheels even with them filled with water and weights on the rims
