  5. to tow behind 3.5t transit tipper, pref 5-6" and ideally £2,000 - can claim VAT back. - I know wont get alot for that sort of money, but cant justify spending alot on what is really a chipper for a second gang to use when busy
  6. weve had a lot of probs with our 441's, the new anti vib gromet under the handle is prone to popping out easily - think will stick with our huskys, new 346xp can fell all day in forest and all lads say brill, even after 9 hours of solid felling - no one with hand ache - may have back ache but thats just cause its coming up to christmas and the lads have all started eating too many mince pies!hohoho:lol:
  7. This may be a long shot, but does anyone have a used chipper for sale ideally as cheap as possible for my lads to use as a second chipper to go off with. must be working condition, doesnt matter if its scruffy. Not bothered make, etc - if you've got any ideas please pm me
  8. yes - you have to change your mind set with it, its more efficient to keep it in 24 hrs to keep the cast iron hot and plan your cooking - we cook our own lamb that we raise ourselves and its the best slow cooked in the "Stan" - you aint tasted food til youve tasted aga cooking!
  9. yes that sounds about right, our neighbour has same size house as ours 3 bedrooms etc, fills his oil tank up twice a year at over £300 each time - about £700 a pop for oil to heat hot water and radiators - we fill our truck up and bring it down twice a year with softwood and with this we cook and heat hot water and our 8 radiators! costing us if we sold it equivalent to say £160 for two loads of softwood at £85 a pop - which also cuts our electric bill as w cook on our aga (stanley) and our monthly electric is only £20 Direct Debit and even then in winter we get a rebate! - so compared to equivalent house with same size rooms etc our bills are reduced by £540!! but ofcourse our wood is free so we save alround!
  10. Well Said! but a nice white gypo truck would set those logs off loveley:001_tt2:
  11. yes well said, I think he means widthxdepthxlength gives cubic metres filled flat - with air spaces! as we all have to tell customers to remember its not an exact science when they stack them and think your .08 short:001_huh:
  12. to get back to the thread - I agree with quickthorn - its going to get difficult - and also if you only sell hardwood - where are you going to get it after all the thinnings and other bits harvested? - there will soon come a time when you wont be able to buy hardwood to turn into firewood it will be uneconomic surely - demand will outstrip supply - we have to fell all our own so we have 1,000 of tonnes from FC - but what about the companies who buy in? youll have to go down the softwood route - but softwood isnt a swear word - thats all I and family burn - the stuff the customer doesnt want! the stove sellers and internet experts have alot to answer for - true old fashioned firewood burners know any wood is good - I have to cook on my stove and heat our house, I try and explain to customers but it is difficult - back to thread, margins will be tight and some will fall by the wayside, only tree surgeons selling their arisings and foresters selling their own produce and firewood merchants will have to sell mix loads or softwood in a few years time thats my opinion anyway!
  13. well what do we burn? - good question - unfortunately I always get the stuff the customer never wants to buy - i.e conifer, softwood ,any thing , poplar, mainly conifer though - and I have to cook on mine! - stanley solid fuel - but you know, any wood will burn, and produce a hot enough hotplate for food and if your careful will heat an oven upto 200 to cook a joint! plus hot water and heating for for houses 8 radiators - some people are too fussy with their wood.
  14. could well have been - trouble is Im a bit of a collector/hoarder and when the yard gets a bit too full and starts looking cluttered - or I see my next purchase I have to shift something to make room:001_tongue: - cant resist my machinery! big boys toys or something to do with it
  15. yes, was a nice drive, sold it to get some more tractors:001_tongue: decided to finally get out of agric.contracting - but having said that still did some silageing this year - cant quite get farming out of my blood!
  16. some of the workhorses if of any interest ;I like to collect tractors - not particuluar to colour or make - just like to collect them, ---- MUST HAVE MORE TRACTORS, MUST HAVE MORE, MORE MORE.......
  17. that price sounds a hell of a lot for standing softwood? at 12"+??? would be interested but these figures wouldnt add up for what we would do the job for:confused1:
  18. bingo - we've found it just the same, I think that no one reads these local rags anymore - word of mouth - INVALUABLE - Web site works well for wholesale customers & ebay does pretty well - I think a good website in this day and age is invaluable though - updating ours in the next month or so when I can get round to it
  19. just to add more griss to the mill - our RA's are quite basic, Talking Forestry work here - would post but afriad youd all laught at them - they pass muster and do the job - but I find i tried to put in an all singing all dancing one - which seemed to be over the top and the lad who weve appointed site safety officer said it was too much to fill in every day etc - so we checkd what we needed - took advice and our basic tick box was sufficient and the lads didnt mind filling it in - simple tick boxes, verbal checks, tick boxes, sign etc done - 5minutes before start felling and its complete - anymore and i think they wouldnt bother - but it IS a needed piece of h&s as it does reinstate in everyones mind before they start what should be done, what mustnt be done and what could go wrong and then what to do if it does and where to go etc hope this helps keep up the talk joy
  20. where abouts is it, if near us would be interested
  21. Thanks Yvonne, Rohan informs me we had our new grab bowser off you last year - thanks for info - will contact Barony - joy
  22. TW stands for Two Wheel Drive - sounds daft but they were all 2 wheel drive in America then made for europe 4wd front wheel assisted axles, these big tractors were designed in the USA where 2wd was the norm on this size of machine the reason for this anomoly was that different farming practices found on different farms in america and austrailia - TW's came in - early ones were ,10,20,30 then came, 15,25,35 with a first and second series to give three series in all of the TW's giving three shapes two types with Q cab, then to the supa Q cab force II, hope this answers your question - we are ford anoracks Im afriad.
  23. sold that ages ago charlie - the bloke just took his time collecting it! - getting another though hopefully saturday. - give us a ring tomorrow charlie - re: about that larch behind you
  24. TW pulling out some willows from mill leat clearance - giving the other tractors a break - if anyone interested TWis for sale please ring 07970 040755 if interested price £7000 ono plus VAT
