  1. Give your hardest job to your laziest man and he will find the easiest way.
  2. I tend to think if you have a pile of arb arisings that cost next to nothing yes more work to split. But once done and stored dry they are not burning a hole in your pocket. If there is a shortage, £125 a cube if there is not they can sit there for the next 10 years till there is. I may come out of retirement for one month in January. Then again I may just sit at home and burn them with a nice glass of spirt and watch the overloaded double cabs struggle up the lane.
  3. I was looking at disco vans on ebay this week all around 4-5k go on auto trader prices £2500.00
  4. Man after my own heart if does not add up on a calculator its not going to work as there is always something else you have not allowed for. Just because old ned down the road sells for £60 a cube does not mean he makes money.
  5. Best way to slow these people up is show interest but make sure your not open to virus etc. Say the right nieve things get them on the hook and excited then after they have put a lot of time in drop them. The more people waste their time the less they are likely to bother and less people they rip off. If buyers play them along the more likely they are to drop a clanger that ebay or the police can trace.
  6. They probably dont have enough firewood to fill their orders even after all those cut price tree surgery jobs they have done all week just round the corner.
  7. Just because you are British does not make you lazy. There are plenty of east europeans sat on the dole with no intention of doing a days work. There are a lot of super hard working ones that will never loose their work ethic. There are a lot of British like that too just most are probably self employed now so you dont get the chance to employ them.
  8. I think the oil industry does better because they are able to do a spread sheet or at the very least add up.
  9. Big or small paid cord wood or free arb arisings if everyone is selling at £60 a cube round your way leave it alone.
  10. Can you put a few tonnes of timber on a 750kg trailer. I tend to use a disco and 3.5 tonne trailer and with in 10 mins you are full.
  11. Unless you have a rear door extra cabs look awkward to load. Extra cab seats ok for small people for about 5 miles. single cabs poor payload about 700kg whereas double cab = 1100kg
  12. If Ford think that thing is worth 30k they have lost the plot. I looked at a new transit custom a week ago expecting them to quote 14k got the quote they start at 18 nothing nice till you spend 22. merc is a good truck but still way over price at 29k
  13. I would not worry about the sat nav just bought a 3 year old disco doubt I will switch it on. I have a tom tom and know where I am going the most important thing to me is the live service. i want to know who is in the way. Also 18 months time the built in will be a dinasaur.
  14. I would do a compression test to make sure. You may have a leak between pots. I have had a few head gaskets with no signs in oil, water or over heating. Make sure the lift pump is good and healthy. sounds like fuel starvation or blocked pick up in the tank
  15. Fuel filter has to be worth a go after a year especially with the new bio diesel washing all the crud up and dropping it in the filter. Yours may be to old for an egr system. Why are you so sure its not a head gasket.
  16. Thats an egr in broonies pic. If that clogs up will jam open and kill performance. Its a crap emmission device a bypass kit on ebay and chuck the lot in the corner of the w/shop until you sell the van. It is designed to feed some of the crap from the exhaust back into the air intake. Cool fresh air is better than exhaust the engine must be a direct injection with injectors right in the combustion chamber. Dont need glow plugs good economy and power but lots of clatter especially when cold. Proper old school engine.
  17. I would not remember they dont have glow plugs as never worked on or owned renault. I would keep going as you are until you find it or book it in to a garage that is good with renault. I assumed it was common rail and about 5 years old.
  18. Does it have an intercooler are the hoses split or collapsing inside under load. The inner and outer hose part part company inside then block the hose. Weak lift pump? Does the engine smoke from the crankcase breather. white smoke unburnt diesel which could be poor compression or blown head gasket. Could be loads of thing difficult to say without truck.
  19. I would do a search on the net first known common faults and failures. Recently I have found with vans alot of it is design faults. Trying to diagnose with out the help of a laptop can be really hit and miss. It could be as simple as a small vac hose off or blocked exhaust. Is your engine designed to be redlined out of gear ? some have software to cut back the pump if say the turbo starts to run away. The lack of performance may be service related an oil change with filters can work wonders. Check the turbo can be turned by your finger ( not when running ) start with simple things and work forward.
  20. I have heard they have a few problems with egr. Start by talking nicely to the dealer if that fails talk a bit louder.
  21. You can often pick up 80kva silent set for same sort of money as a 30kva as they are not as popular. Same engineering as a 30 kva just a bit bigger and juicy on the fuel when not loaded. I only have 3x 6kw motors and often not on together and run these on a new 60kva
  22. Thats not made in china either
  23. What have the chinese factories that are owned and managed by chinese produced that is any good.
  24. I have nothing against the Chinese they have a huge manufacturing capacity if only they would stick to making those umbrella things you put in your drinks the world would be a better place and we would not have to suffer tools made from cast lead.
  25. Some good points here. I was not going to mention this but a local stove shop cancelled their kindling order this week. We used to deliver 20 bags at a time for £2 a bag for the last 3 years. Then when he got low would put a large order into certainly wood. This week I put the price up to £2.50 a bag and he cancelled because certainly wood are 1p a bag cheaper. Now I would imagine they charge carriage. But do certainly wood buy his stoves no. Will we recommend him as a supplier to our customers no. People buy local as long as you can beat the lowest price they can find on the net nation wide, or as you say they want to earn £20 an hour and expect others to earn a £1.
