  1. I have alot of 5.5 files so was thinking of fitting an oregon chain to my 3/8" bar. Does this make sense or have I just caused complete confusion:lol: Ps I just drunk a bottle of wine
  2. I thought it was me. Normally gloves last 2-3 days in dry weather a day in wet. My brother bought his supper expensive gloves in from work cost £25 probably lasted 3 days. Interested in good gloves I think £2 a pair is enough unless there the dogs and last weeks.
  3. Be carefull of the mileage thing. The worst disco I owned had 40k all the rest were great and had 150k. The 53 plate I have at the moment did 85k in the first year. Carefull owners and good history are more of a clue. A clean un abused interior helps.
  4. defenders are noisey unreliable uncomfortable draghty out of date and leak water. But if you need four wheel drive and to tow theres not much else. The parts are cheap and I would not be parted from any of mine.
  5. So would that be classed as fully seasoned Or just good for the standby generator business
  6. Nissan cabstar defo better than a transit. Narrow for drive ways will take a load upwards so can stack it 6' high for double loads. Dont thrash it till you know the rad is good. They suffered from overheating even when new, you can put a more efficient rad in.
  7. If you put 12" timber through and use the four way often the timber hits the splitter to high and you end up with two brick size pieces on the bottom and two breeze blocks on the top. I have a 2x is it the same with the other pilkis
  8. The guy selling it is called johnathon or similar. I think mr Latham is in sussex it could be him selling it. Johnathan latham quoted me £7995 + vat for a new one at the Weald wood show which would come with a warrantee. The one on ebay includes vat so currently stands at £5700. With only 10 hrs under its belt its probably a good buy. I thought about buying a bigger machine but a bigger bar will turn more of your wood to chips or waste and bigger wood will be wetter. A 6 way splitter is ok for pine but Beech ? I am not so sure. Can you process on to hard ground in the summer then scoop up with a machine. I cant so tend to billet then process in winter.
  9. I have a bar often get two days before need to touch with file for ten minutes. Dont think you will regret it quieter to bit more chip though.
  10. Get a bolt for now. Check with tip master about the tensile strength as it may be more than a standard 8.8 bolt and it looks kind of crucial.
  11. I sharpen by hand. The only thing I have against electric grinders is when someone cuts too fast and heat hardens the chain. Nearly impossible to file by hand after that. If you used them carefully I could see them being a good tool especially if you hit a nail or wire. When ever my chains have been ground they are completely dull and i have to give them a tickle by hand.
  12. That looks like a cement mixer engine will be slow running as well possibly 750 rpm
  13. We have some trip skips. They work well you have to lift them high and then its all or nothing a bit of a wild ride. If I get time I will get a pic of the buckets we made. I like my home made buckets because you can if needed load them at floor level and apart from 11/2 labour they are free.
  14. If you dont double handle and you process into them how do you empty them. Do you use a rotator or something
  15. I got two of them, dont strike me as very practicle. I cut 600 gallon oil tanks in half and weld i beams on, then you can tip a metre cube into your tipper for delivery. Those ibex frames mean you double handle it
  16. few extra inches in height and you will be giving away a lot of wood. Which you have worked hard to produce.
  17. Cant help at the moment hopefully will have a machine in a couple of months. have plenty of wood ready for turning into kindling. Keep in touch as I may hire a machine if I can get my hands on one.
  18. I have maybe 20 in yard the company I get them from has maybe forty or fifty. Often get that many a month. Barnsley bob think your about right on the size if the were 1mcu + we would use them ourselves.
  19. I feel a kiln building project coming on If your cord wood is not to large and has been cut 18 months you may just get away with it if your quick and log it ( but I never said that ) If its wet tell the customer, some have a year or so supply already
  20. Hi woodworm is yours a nice new jd or an old clapper like mine 1979. Where should I look for the lever, I dare not pull to many in case I go through the roof james bond styleeeeeee.
  21. Sorry for opening a can of worms but if we get to the bottom of it will help alot of people on here. I have an international which has two pto shafts coming out the back. I also have a jd 2140 which does not. But I think you change the entire shaft which then spins at 1000 rpm. By running an over sized tractor at 1100 rpm on the engine you use much less fuel and make less noise. But unless you use the tractor hard occaisonally you will eventually glaze the engine. So if you do 40 hrs of processing an hr pulling a loaded trailer on the road will sort it. Dont put the processor on running at 1000 pto speed it will kill it. Also dont forget and blip the throttle or move tractor with pto engaged. If I processfor 8 hrs a day I dont check the fuel gauge for days let alone fill it up.
  22. I use ifor tippers would not buy anything else. the rest either over priced or crap. Ebay worst place to buy ifor tippers clapped out crap for new money
  23. I recently told a caller that I would remove the arb waste if it made the arborist job easier and they did not want the wood but would not pay anything for the wood. The caller told his arborist I offered money. Luckily we are a friendly bunch but that could cause alot of bad feeling.
  24. I got mine running on a 80hp international with adaptor on 1000 pto shaft. So tractor only running at 1100 seems good on fuel. Thought I would mention incase someone offers you a mint bargain larger tractor with 1000 and 540 rpm pto
  25. make sure you have plenty of single phase coming in before getting a phase converter. Power it direct with hyd pump if you can. The lister flat top engine was one of the best most durable engines made. The price looks ok. check out Myrak Generators & Construction Plant for prices. Dont buy lister alpha engine, lombardini, ruggerini or anything chinese.
