  1. Same as usual what even the wifes cooking Beech 2 years seasoned
  2. Had a few, best by miles ifor tt85 tows a treat even when badly loaded. Worst indespension, chassis breaks and very small wheel bearings.
  3. if it was cut this week and is over 5" forget till next year. If it was cut 12 months ago into 8ft lengths process the stuff under 6" you may be ok in January.
  4. I have been told pot and piston worn out. I have decided against it due to the excellent advice on here I think something like a 660 with 25" bar sounds more sensible and useable and probably more reliable easier on the back and fuel.
  5. Dont pay much for adverts. I go for free web listings ( you dont need a web site just put your phone no on ) free one line yellow pages and thompson. Parish mags are cheap about £40 a year. School notice boards. Leaflet and business cards
  6. Thanks for replies so far. You are confirming what i suspected. I was drawn to a nice low hour 3120 for £350 + vat but common sense may need to prevail. I did buy a mint 039 made in 2000 for £160 while I was there which i think will take the strain off my 20 year old 038. Anymore views really appreciated.
  7. I think you get early birds in sept. Then not a lot until the weather gets cold then it goes nuts.
  8. I have my eyes on a used husky xp3120 . I would have occassional need to cut trunks of 20-30" into rings . But would this saw be too heavy in weight for ringing 18 -24" stuff with a 25" bar. Is the idea mad I normally use a stihl 039 with 20" bar but sometimes find it a bit underpowered just wondering if i am going to the other extreme.
  9. Was mega busy in sept slow last two weeks
  10. I have delivered logs and customer says price of logs has gone up too much and you dont get much do you. I ask why do you burn them, expecting to get answer like ' an open fire is nice' but no the reply was. ' they are half the price of coal when you compare the btu's' You just cant win ? The general public is used to arborists treating logs as pocket money on a saturday morning. Which is fine until demand out strips supply. I dont think I would get a mortgage deal from Barclays on a saturday morning below cost price half the price of during the week.
  11. I use visqueen from a wholesaler so far lasted about 8 years. always seems to be about £100 for the poly. This tunnel was a nightmare we fitted the cover in high wind needless to say has a few holes.
  12. I am training my customers into this. I will try and do a mail shot in the spring.Processing green wood in march on hard ground when its not frozen or pouring with rain is the way to go. The profit margins are too small for a small business to spend tens of thousands of pounds on cord wood to then wait 12 months to get your money back. I have two new customers this week that want 8 cubic metresof bone dry firewood they have plenty of money and storage space ? The other thing to do is start collecting email addresses because you can send offers out without postage costs.
  13. £230 for business use its cos Im old
  14. ours came with a lockable snug top metal effort with sliding side doors. you could use it as a van but still tip. we took ours off because it was heavy and awkward to load with processor.
  15. They still make them called piaggio porter now about 6k new. seen the old hijets around for £2500. Not sure how long we will keep it but we are warming to it suprisingly quickly. The vehicle feels right when delivering in a non aggressive eco friendly cute sort of way. Luckily I am only 6ft 4" tall. Your staff will have to observe the hijet code of conduct
  16. You have to pedal fast to make the light work:lol:
  17. bed is 1.9 x1.4 x 0.3 or just under 0.8 of a cubic metre well heaped 1cu m 700kg payload hydraulic tip. even fitted with lpg but not working at the moment but at 40 mpg not sure if its worth fixing apart from 400 mile range would be usefull. I bought it partly as a joke cos I new would make a profit on it but it is running rings round our 110 at the moment. it does 65mph up hills loaded ! Goes in tight spaces and up paths. Been good on fields so far I think because it is so light does not dig in the landrover is waiting for some mud so it can give it some of this:001_tt2:
  18. ex council 28,000 miles 1.3 efi 16v 0.8 cu metre level 1cu metre heaped. And it tips
  19. Bought a 110 tipper then went to an auction a week later and could not resist this.
  20. Thats how we do it. I put the billets through the processor . I have a lot of customers that want 16-18" logs most want 10" for small log burners
  21. Seems most of our customers only want tipped loads have tried getting them into bags. The double barrelled name brigade are happy to stack their own logs if its quality dry and the right size which is good cos i dont stack.
  22. There was a on here a week or so ago asking for views on his new web site. In the pics was a 2cu metre bag which he paid £4 for. I was thinking of using and cutting bottom out as one trip deal. £4 on a double load should be ok ?.
  23. I think if you go the processor route you need storage on concrete. a big processor and a good log deck and a forklift. But to cover all this you need a lot of business and as the recession deepens you will be competeing with the unemployed who on a monday morning have £300 in their pocket before they pick up an axe.:001_rolleyes:unfortunately
