  1. I am thinking bars that stop between cuts mean less wear and chain oil use. Hydraulic motors more reliable but expensive if they go wrong. Belts are crude but you can keep them on the shelf when they are only £5 ea. I think the 1x37 may be a much better machine than my 2x . Before making a decision I will try and see a newer Hakki.
  2. Used them for 16 years never done me any harm. very reliable easy to work on and dirt cheap for spares. Trick is to buy them when someone has replaced 95% of the parts then out them 3 years later. Did you say you may have one for sale soon ?
  3. Barnsley Bob how much do you sell two solid cubic metres of firewood for without any airspace ?
  4. The prices went up because the pound lost value. But I think the pound has recovered by about 15% . so you can tell what I am thinking. If the pound stays weak it makes a good opportunity for someone to make in uk and export
  5. road tax less than 10% gets spent on roads licences and permits cost vertually nothing Where does all the money go simple 2.6 million people on the dole 3 million sickness and disability the bill for that now comes to more than all the income tax collected in the country. I have no problem with the disabled or people collecting short term unemployment benefits. But lets face it working classes are easy target we are too busy and nackard to fight back. I agree if you dont need the licence dont pay otherwise they will invent a tax for breathing.
  6. Thinking of renewing my 9 year old 2x wood processor . should i buy another haki now they are over 8k. I have had good service on parts but am thinking of moving a bit more up market maybe a machine with out belts. The binderberger looks a good machine but at 20-30k too much the dalen at £12,500.00 looks possible Bgu 370 at £7995.00 looks good value. Anyone had experience of any other machines. Any that should be avoided ?
  7. I have a confession in 02 I bought a new Nissan Navarra but I wont be going there again ever. I still have the drinks holder if anyone needs it, The only bit that did not break in the 2 long years we owned it. Dont be afraid of the td5 . They do need a bit of a thrash round town but will leave the 300 for dead on the motorway when the egr is removed and everything is running right. If you have a problem look at the air mass meter first get genuine not a wong pong one off ebay.
  8. I like my bobcat attachements but I am not sure about that machine. what happens if the log drops on its end. Also you would alwaysbe watching the wind otherwise you would be wearing alot of saw dust. The operation looks almost semi automatic do any conventional machines do this.
  9. Quadruple your money always sounds good until you work out your costs and then you feel like you have earnt every penny
  10. There was someone on here in ireland looking to buy a new or late machine about 3-4 weeks ago. Posch machines look well made not seen a bgu in the flesh. Like the look of the dalen especially lack of belts and maintenance from top.
  11. I have done 14cu this week and I thought that was good for us this time of the year
  12. A proffessional leaflet nowadays has good graphics and often alot of colour which will be expensive to print at home.
  13. That leaflet looks good. Do you sell alot of your slabwood.
  14. I buy 17 tonnes of beech which I assume when wet is about a tonne a solid metre. The space on the truck is 34cu metres giving roughly 50% for air space. When its dried out its still the same size. 1 cubicmetre turns into about 1.6 cubic metres of logs I hope
  15. I had a spare lamp brkt on rear of disco roof with power supply so fitted camera. I can lift it up and down so point it at towbar for hitching and reversing. lift it up can check straps are ok on load. worth seeing camera working before buying price does not seem to matter but some chinese ones are poor.
  16. Its a shame you are so far away. Because I cut my wood into billets and often dont use the splitter to process them out in the winter its ideal for making granny logs. Can produce stuff 5" square if required. Most processors would prefer to deliver you a tipped load then you can bag them yourself. I would sell kindling and firelighters and posibly coal. Got more chance of earning a living imo.
  17. I would be interested can get as much cord as needed but need the rate to make it worth cutting up.
  18. After my mortgage and rates that would leave me £528 a year. Its not april 1st is it. Do you think instructors would come and cut up logs for me on a saturday. Thinking about it I would not have £528 left as you would have to pay tax. Thinking about it again if you took this position and had kids you would get tax credits as your not supposed to earn less than 24k with family under a labour government.
  19. I have a 45cc ryobi saw . I thought it was rubbish no where near as good as my tiny ms180 . I use this for alot of my fire wood up to about 10" diameter. I think a small stihl will be better than a larger ryobi
  20. I was afraid someone was going to say that. Last year I had some stainless steel units weigh 200kg worth £200 all loaded ready to weigh in. someone rings up, dont weigh in they are worth more to me than scrap I will be back from holiday in two weeks. He shows up and offers twenty quid the lot:angry:
  21. I have about 40 tonnes of spaulted beech. I believe wood turners like it is it worth more or shall I just process it for logs.
  22. The prop shaft did not seem happy at the time but I new after the railing there was a 4ft drop so not much choice. I was relieved that there was no accidents. There must have been some braking as its a split system but at the time I decided not to push down too hard and pump it which in hindsight may not have been right. once the fluid had diappeared I would have braked on two oppossing wheels.
  23. The 15% in and 5 % out on firewood works really well if you buy in cord wood. If I were you steve check to make sure you are on cash accounting vat as you claim when you spend out but dont pay until you have been paid good for a turn over of about 440k. Any machinery you buy you get the 15% back that quarter, the 50% 100% thing applies after this on the tax side. Hope this makes sense, its a mixed blessing been doing since 1992 one good thing makes sure you keep your books up to date.
  24. Try Chris Day nr Newbury Berks. He runs to scotland at least once a week. If you struggle to get him I think he also has a zetor tractor dealership.
