  1. If you need to cut the grill about and dont want to muller yours I have one in the shed I dont need.
  2. Thanks for the tip. I was thinking of doing it. If I could buy 5k of wood in feb and send it all out by august I could spend another 5k and send it out over the winter. But people wont part with cash until the last minute. So the theme this year will be no wood around hike the price up same as last year:thumbup1:
  3. Not thought of that. Have drained tank underneath but no dirt really came out.
  4. Hi its a bobcat we have to occasionally blow the fuel line back to clear the little brass ball that picks up the fuel. To get to the fuel tank its an engine out job so have tried to avoid that hopeing it would eventually break up and stop in the fuel filters
  5. Only one of my toys has played up and I think that is down to a little water clogging the pickup in the tank. I have treated it for waxing but its unlikely as everything else in the yard is singing along. Its only been -5 here if it gets colder will have to ditch the shorts and put some jeans on
  6. Timber cutter did you work for them when they were petbow then pgi. We may have met before.
  7. I have a german Sheppach. When I use it leaves me with the feeling it would be difficult to build a machine myself with the efficency I get from mine. I can split 18" rings into a double load in 40 mins. This I think is mainly due to speed and auto return and adjustable stops.
  8. I have worked out nobody will ever orders their logs 9 months before they need them because most people dont have cash. They leave it till the night before they need them then rob peter to pay paul . In the future if you take credit cards it will work in your favour. If you order your logs in the middle of January when its -5 they are going to hiss and spit. Am I going to invest £10,000 in cord wood in the summer in the hope the wind does not blow all the trees over in october or some one steals it or sets fire to it NO. If customers took a load or two in summer the whole industry would work more efficently and possibly cheaper.
  9. I hope mrs logbaron does not read this or we all be in trouble. If any lady arb talkers read this I want to say I am a new man and completely blameless and the others led me astray
  10. Ok a sound proofed light box that still allows them to get close to the sink
  11. You can get light box with a lamp in it. You put it over their head.
  12. First and last time we did not insist on COD. A good warning to all . I have two small children and coming up to christmas needed to scratch round for £700 to put kero in the tank for heating. Am taking this very personal I know but wont take this lying down, watch this space. The logs were seasoned beech and perfect for burning.
  13. I delivered two double loads to a customer in August and they are still refusing to pay. I consider this to be theft and will be taking the appropriate action.
  14. Not sure if they would be legal. Need to check if they will carry the weight of a cabstar. had this problem in the past.
  15. I have a dual fuel Hijet. The gas has packed up, local fitter wants £100 to look at fixing it another £100 to service gas system and a further £100 to service truck. It has a very limited range on gas and does 30-40mpg on petrol apart from the enviromental advert I cant see why people bother.
  16. I have replaced a few if you let me know the make I will try and send you in the right direction. A complete new motor will be about £150 a new power pack about £300.
  17. You mean the Ford Ranger is born if you did not get one that cracked in half on the chassis and you could get second gear when the box was hot after a long run
  18. 1 customer in a 100 is more trouble than the other 99 put together. Sometimes its better to pass awkward customers by. Recommend your competition or say you have run out. You will keep your reputation intact long term and only loose one customer. If you upset mr awkward he will tell the entire town of his problems of you being 2 minutes late or some of the logs were 1/4" over 10" or you refused to wheel barrow and stack 1/4 mile away from the house. Luckily 99% of the population are easy to deal with. Large companies now reward awkward people who complain and change contracts every five minutes so they are getting trained into it.
  19. We are on a bit of a slope and when going up hill it raises the infeed conveyor and makes it harder to load. I sometimes work up hill to load two wheel drive tippers and if the wind is in the wrong direction. Wind from behind is best no sawdust in the eyes.
  20. I move the tractor every few hrs. When I have lots of piles I have a powered sweeper on the bobcat. Normally just burn it unless someone has a use for beech saw dust.
  21. Noooooooooooooooooo I am a diesel engineer and hate the smell of the stuff. I use the aerosol cheap stuff something D on the tin. One can lasts days but keeps everything moving and its easier to get the bits of wood out the ram pushes under the splitter. Anyone else got some tips to pass on. I use gates automotive belts on mine find them about £3 ea and very good.
  22. Go easy on the kero I think its more volatile than diesel and not so good for the injector pump. There is an additive sold for the purpose in 5 litre cans.
  23. Hopefully not teaching anyone to suck eggs. Fuelwood advised cheap furniture polish for our kindlet. I took that a bit further and now use a cheap version of wd40 on the splitter and chamber in our 2x . Seems to prevent jams and even logs seem less likely to land end up. Also stops surface rust on splitter. Just make sure you dont stand near out conveyor as they now fly out faster when jamming.
