  1. I found a company in Tadley Berkshire called boulters . Going to see them in a week will let you know how I get on. Got the vehicle to put the body on. Have accidently bought two may find another used tipper body and create two just for the hell of it. May run two through the winter or sell the other if someone wants it.
  2. Hi Need a tipping body made for 2 cu metres with divider. Needs to go on single cab hilux. Anyone know a good place in central south or ones to defo avoid. Dont need names just clues ie area if its bad news. If anyone has a tipping body for hilux would be interested. Transit or ldv bodies are too wide and need too much work to alter.
  3. I was thinking of getting an old council 6ft diesel mower and mounting a 3pt linkage splitter on the front after removing the deck. You would have a lift as well as driveable machine and the hyd pump should be man enough. What do you think
  4. Dont be too down if you had protection insurance they would do everything they could to wriggle out of paying. Best to reflect on what you saved on premiums and adapt your working practice if you can. I keep a fund for these type of problems my self insurance fund I call it no problem getting it to pay out.
  5. micro chips and circuit boards x damp x dust x vibration x heat = trouble
  6. I may not have anywhere near as much info as some people have on here. But recently I read on the enviroment website that they were taking a more sensible approach toward low hazard waste. Meaning that if it cant pollute if spilt etc there would be little need for a licence. Has anyone spoken to the EA to see if wood chip could be classed as such. I service large diesel generators and because I create the waste oil in the course of my job it becomes my waste and therefore dont need a licence. I have this in writing from the EA. On the other hand if I was a builder and knocked down a wall I would defo need a licence. I have by the way got a licence as its such a grey area its not worth the grief to save £100 every three years.
  7. I have a ms260 good for 8-10" . The electric MSE 220 we have leaves it for dead more compareable to a medium size saw. Petrol wise I would be looking at 361 if you need to cut alot od stuff over 8".
  8. I recently bought the big stihl electric saw. For ringing up in the yard we wont be going back to petrol in a hurry. Less noise, no fumes, 25p an hour instead of £1.50. You only stop to fill bar oil no brainer so far.
  9. Thanks for all the help so far There is one on ebay with 400,000 miles and still going strong. i dont think its worth paying a large premium for low miles as we are going to throw logs at it and scratch it up drives 10 times a day. I had a peugeot 205 van with 40 k on the clock and it was rubbish. We had one with 170k and it was fine Sometimes I think it is just luck of the draw. Probably worth paying 20% more for 30k rather than 160k .
  10. I am looking for a decent single cab hilux to turn into a tipper. I have been offered a very low mileage one but they are looking for a lot more money for the age. Was wondering what your opinion was I tend to look for average miles and good history. I am looking to pay about 4k but dont want alot of the sheds I am being offered as I will be spending 2k on a tipper conversion so it needs to last to recover the investment. Seems a bit excessive to pay through the nose for a vehicle with less than 50,000 miles when they are capable of 400,000 miles.
  11. If its overheating and the fins look clean its more likely the passages in the rad are blocked with chalk especially in London. I have been in the trade 20 years and never found a coolant cleaner worth a toss until I found the Wurth stuff for trucks. Amazing results and worth a try unless rad is really bad then its time for a new core. Get the rad flow tested by a rad company just in case you are barking up the wrong tree. Jizer and truck wash and gentle pressure was are normally all that needed on the outside.
  12. On one hand seems a shame to pull that nice landy about but on the other you will find it usefull sometimes to deliver to those out on a limb jobs solo. Really poor access jobs easier without trailer. The last drop on the way home, and the thick snow can still deliver jobs.
  13. I bought a trooper about 1993 year for shunting trailers round the yard. Just failed its ticket on about £300 worth of repairs. Paid £400 for it unmarked inside and out for the age we are afraid to get in it with boots and overalls. Feels like a nice motor but have never driven it on the road. Very well made and probably comfortable. My family car is a lc vx if I did not have that I would be putting the trooper back on the road. Wish I could find a hilux tipper in this condition
  14. There is a landrover tipper advert on ebay in amoungst the pics is one of a 90 tipper with new body.
  15. Yes driven alot of 130's. Great if you need to move 1.5 tonne of chip. But 2cu of logs is only going to weigh 700kg. The chassis is alot longer and heavily reinforced compared with 110 hence the extra weight. The longer chassis means poor tuning circle. My driving is fine thanks 18 years in business no accidents
  16. I dont tend to use my trailer much as we are a town 20 miles from much else if that makes sense. Most of my deliveries are under 5 miles so a nippy truck is ideal. If you do a long round robin I would imagine a trailer is ideal. If you convert your landy you wont have room for all that profitable kindling.
  17. I have been looking at 130 for log deliveries. Too long and heavy and rubbish lock for getting up drives. 90 too small not worth spending the money for the amount of space. I saw a 110 with nissan engine on a B plate but may be too old for you. If you got a 130 you could chuck a mattress in it for the evenings
  18. Shame you cant deliver with it but you would need to run on white diesel. Good for local delivery.
  19. With national insurance it will be nearer 25% If you think it hurts now try paying 40% 10 years ago I earnt 70K and paid two lots of 10k the following year
  20. You dont pay tax on about the first 5k profit. You can pay your wife 5k as well without paying tax or national insurance. You pay your wife for answering the phone, doing the books, washing your work wear and listening to your moaning ( consultancy ) and any thing else you can think of. A few years back you only paid 10% on the next 5k but the Labour government stuffed that along with the huge increase in nat ins about 5 years ago. Earning 21k you should be eligible for family tax credits. If it does not sit right with you think of it as legal income tax recovery The Labour government promise was to top up your wage to 24k if you had children.
  21. Are you just using the trailer in the yard.
  22. Common problem a friend of mine has his on ebay now located in Andover. His did it while under warranty new engine £4600 .
  23. the newer the crane the more it lifts and the less it weighs. Avoid the old dinasaurs on ebay. old cranes will be difficult and expensive to get through the test. I take it you already have your operators ticket.
