  1. Heavy knobbly mud tyres even better. The hubs look nice not sure if they fit my uk spec stuff though they look different.
  2. We did not have it from new but the history shows new injectors at 80,000 and we fitted a new air flow meter this year now has 135k on clock. Good emmissions no rattles or smoke. With near 1 tonne in boot and driven hard on a run does 30 to the gallon. Around 2003 they seemed to sort the problems out
  3. For working local maybe 300 for long distance td5. The 300 has naf cambelt alot of work to change and a habit of blowing head gasket between 3 and 4 pot at 80,000. When we run a few we used to let the cambelt fail and change the push rods and head gasket in one go. TD5 has been Landrovers longest running engine and pulls well at 70mph. Once you drive a td5 you are unlikely to want to go back to a 300.
  4. I have td5 disco van and two hilux. Landrover will last fifty years but you will crawl under it every weekend. Hilux will last 10 years and you wont put a spanner to it.
  5. Getting the grants has just got much harder . Probably easier to earn the 3k than fill out the paper. Business plan, 3 years accts on and on ?
  6. A bit negative I said Money makes money in this world. Logs are a good hobby if you are treading water in the recession or sitting on a pile of money in semi retirement. But If you have wife kids and mortgage it takes a bit more consideration before splashing out 8k . So my dreams of owning a petrol stationed have now been dashed as well
  7. Steve why have you packed in the firewood
  8. Boulters of Tadley are just building me one similar to the one above with 500mm sides and divider to carry two cubic metres. Should be back next week if you want me to post a pic.
  9. A chainsaw and splitter could be the way to go. With a processor you need to do more wood to cover the out lay especially with the increased maintenance and breakdowns ( not much to break on a splitter ) but there is on a proccessor. Which means you need to lift more on to the infeed conveyor. So to save your back you get a loader then its a two man job. Because you now have an extra wage and a loader and a processor you may as well get a super processor for £35k . Now you need to buy the wood in at £40 a tonne delivered. Now you have flooded your local market and cant compete with people who get their wood free and are topping their money up from other sources. An alternative view which sounds a bit negative but I think could be true sometimes.
  10. I have a 181 and it is too under powered and lightly built for logging. If you have a lot of stuff under 10" then a Stihl 260 or similar in husky would be alot better as its roughly the same weight. If you do alot of stuff over 12" you need something bigger.
  11. Stihl MSE 220 with 16" bar. I am never far from power supply. No fumes 24p and hour to run flat out rather than £1.50. I find my stihl 260 under powered and my ms390 to heavy.
  12. Look forward to supplying you with kindling. Always keen to supply payment on collection customers.
  13. Hi log barron if your Aldershot job comes back on line perhaps we could do something on the cord wood. We are about 40 miles down the M3. I was born in Aldershot but dont shout about it.
  14. I would look into renting a 10 or 20ft container in storage yard. For pricing you could talk to commercial centre or fluens in Andover . If you rent storage in a smart little business est although possibly more expensive you could pick up work and contacts.
  15. I have stopped doing billets and now ring everything with an electric stihl mse220.I have done billets but found the beech never split evenly especially if it had a few knots. Our splitter is horizontal and it was hard work getting 20" stuff stood up under it. Seemed like alot of double handling.
  16. Hi I have just finished building a kindling factory. My mobile 07801 953338. Can you give us all an idea of the quantity you purchased last year. I have a large supply of new construction of cuts so its all clean and dry.
  17. My cubic metre of logs is loaded loose in to a measured space. Its £80 a cu and its not going down in price it can sit there till next year. Will be interested to see what his price is oct onwards.
  18. The good thing about educated customers is they order the wood in June :lol:not
  19. I would be in like a shot but its just too far away good luck I am sure someone local will make good use
  20. I drove one a month ago with 407,000 miles and you could not fault it although the seat was a bit worn. Alot depends on whether its been abused or serviced.
  21. If you cut beech in to brick size logs and lay it in this sun how long will it take to dry ?
  22. My Landcruiser Amazon is now 11 years old so far its had one new exhaust, yearly service two brake disks and some wiper blades and thats it. The hilux feels just as well built but simpler to repair. I run some Landrovers and think they are great but just not in the same league for reliability or durability. Hilux is narrower and quicker and around town more mpg.
  23. So far £2200 . The chassis I think is the same as mk3 4 and 5 so in theory you could put your tipper on a 55 plate. Gives the tipper a bit more life. I think a Land rover may be a step in the wrong direction.
