  1. The police dont want to go out catching real criminals they fight back and if they do manage to arrest and prosecute they have no where to store them.
  2. As you say dean the journey to the job is more dangerous than doing the work. Perhaps we could do a risk ass and send it to highways. If we high light the dangers of road islands bollards and pot holes they might think twice.
  3. What stops you displaying the logo on your van anyway ? does any one know if its against the law would they do anything if it was . These guilds are a complete waste of time. All it proves is you had some money on the day
  4. I now dont supply ms until I have a purchase order. We have in the past done a site visit to quote the job then second visit to produce ms then suprise suprise someones brother inlaw onsite gets the job. Complete with our instruction manual ( method statement ). The ms statement also gives the big corporates a better idea if they can handle the job in house. We often service generators on the roof of shopping centres and the paper work is getting horrendous.
  5. I have tried most of them. I have two from Alan marshall Made in sweden or somewhere not cheap but better than the stihl imo . They were about £60 inc postage about a year ago. They have a red and gray handle. I can pull 20in stuff around on the ground 10ft long. Get it dug well in and you will be amazed what you can pull length ways. Just make sure you have nothing behind incase it slips out.
  6. There is a plant in Andover making brikettes . The plant is about the size of departures at Gatwick. 7 miles down the road another same size taking in a 1000 tonnes a day. If you are thinking of making this stuff in your shed a year or so time the competition may be a problem. I have tried to sell a few different types and so far my beech logs still out sell the camel dung about 100 to one. I would love to sell the stuff that looks like poo and drop the logs as it is more profitable and no work. Always keen to try a sample
  7. Most softwood burns with a third less heat than hardwood and in half the time. People dont want to get up every 20 minutes to load the fire. So if I were buying it would need to be half price. Soon there wont be enough hardwood and they wont have any choice. I have builders bags full of kiln dried softwood off cuts if anyone wants them for £35 a bag would like to shift 6 bags at a time or more if I have it.
  8. Small investment, low maintenance, no noise, enviromentally friendly, and you can buy a spare one for £10. Shows you how far we have not come. Processors, teleporters, log decks ect break an r clip and everyone is stood around.
  9. If you leave your tipper down in the winter the salt gets between the ram and piston and rots it. I leave mine up and pray with wd40 if I dont use it for a while. Best to clean and maintain. when the ram drops the vacumm pulls in any water around it
  10. Find someone local with a processor and do a deal. They could come in regular and keep it down. Looks a bit small to transport but small enough to lift on processor. The rest ring it and use splitter. Or you could hire a machine for 3 days
  11. I have a contact near me who bought them last oct he does a 1000 tonnes a year so probably bought a large quantity. I have one as a sample in the shed. Will ring him if you like. perhaps if you get together and put a large order in to get the discount
  12. I think you may need cu metre vented bags from bag supplies. Stacked 5 high with handle to tip out. If you buy potatoe boxes will take forever to get your investment back and you will need to double handle them out. Bags are £2.80 and you can reuse especially if kept in barn out of sun.
  13. Best to walk a way these days dean I have similar story had a few drinks tonight wil keep it brief Nice local village him in new large Audi me In reasonable Landcruiser Flash to let him past, he sits for minutes, drive down to let him know no parking left in lane, he lets rip with torrent of abuse. I park up and he comes over still ranting. So I do what any chilled 40 year old would do on the way to a childrens sports day. Grab him by the throat. His wife hits me with hand bag and tells me he has a heart condition, so I let go. Turns out he is a parent governor ?
  14. I feel your pain. Similar experience with a 21 year old . It does not last for ever and we all start somewhere
  15. What you need is a younger brother thats just been made redundant
  16. If there was a dead badger in the way of my generator service I would not scoop it up and drive home with it stinking in the van. If I disposed of it on site I would get done for fly tipping. I noticed the suit drove past it for 5 days never thought to get out of his Audi and deal with it.
  17. Douglas fir, un treated truss off cuts or larch with less knots. Takes a bit of time to get used to the machine
  18. Believe me chopping and splitting firewood does keep you fit Dave. But I think you need to do it your self rather than watch someone else only kidding
  19. I just sold my 110 tipper that was ins with nfu for £200 a year. Nfu will not increase the premium on my Hilux provided the conversion is done by a proffessional company. It may be worth getting an engineers report if you struggle in future. I think ins comp are getting nervous of home made tipper conversions. An engineers report will say that it conforms to a basic standard. I have seen some superb conversions done on here but have seen a few friday afternoon four bolt and rope for the filler neck jobs.
  20. We recently bought a 1998 for £1800 + vat with 166k one owner. Normally they get about £3500 . There is a white one near me on ebay owned by a tyre company looks promising at the moment. Having owned a few pickups they would be my first choice by miles. depends on your budget
  21. If it was me I would go for tipping hilux ( especially for the mud and snow we had last year ) and a wheels outside low normal trailer with ramps for barrow bags. That way you can do both deliveries in a round robin. I think the ramps may be a bit high on a tipping trailer. If you try the tailift idea get a cheap one second hand if it does not pan out you can sell it for a profit.
  22. I sort of covered my self by having some Landrovers and some Toyotas both have good and bad points. If you need to move 1.5 tonne over rough ground its got to be hi cap or 130. The hilux with a decent body is more like 900kg and I am not keen on auto locking hubs when you just want low box. Manual hubs are a pain ( you got to get out in the rain ) which would not be a problem in most defenders as its raining inside anyway
  23. Last year I paid £35 a tonne for cord delivered. To process and deliver 2 cu metres cost me between £85 and £95 without accounting for the two hrs labour. Unless we can get over £85 a cubic metre its not worth doing.
