  1. I went through all this. Buy a mk 4 onwards hilux for 3k and make a proper one like this. I have treated it to some bfg Mt tyres this week £500:w00t: if it carries on behaving might get a wash in February
  2. 5.5 file is for 404 chain normally only found on the ms880
  3. Heated seats " a device ivented to ensure the long term regular sale of batteries alternators and diesel "
  4. 5 1/2 k for a log deck . You can buy a reasonable processor for an extra grand. Cant see how the money is justifyed. 10 bits of box section and 3 hyd motors:confused1:
  5. When I spoke to my tyre man he could only find four tyres in the country from two differentplaces There was good stock of general grabber. No Kumho anywhere but we think thats because they are changing all the nos. No BFG ats but thats because they dont make a 235 70 16 anymore. Getting very complicated just to buy rubber for a work truck.
  6. Its a good excuse to put up your rates. I would stick another 2.5 % on because its 2011. I would have thought diesel going up 25% in less than a year was a good reason for all of us to charge an extra 10%.
  7. Nissan were as good as Toyota 10 years ago now they are owned by citroen or renault they are hopeless. Just my experience was a nissan fan now would not touch one with a barge pole.
  8. I have got some of these in 235 70 16 waiting to go on our hilux tipper. £103 + vat ea . Glad to hear you are happy with yours if they are like the Ats on our disco they will last forever.
  9. I think smg was closest on this one. With 2 12" tyraps the stop is now spot on and you can thump 6 lengths hard up against the stop. 2 cu metres preped in half an hour which is 8 times faster than preping off cuts.
  10. When i emailed back I said if he found more than he needed I would mop up what was left even if it was ONLY Beech There is someone local who charges the same as us but delivers a third more but its processed beech that morning. I was thinking get a stash which should be ok for January but the margin could just be a little on the tight side.
  11. Here is a copy of the email to start with I was a bit annoyed but now have to admire the cheek. I was looking for Oak, but I guess beech would do. I live about 300 yds from you (****** ******** Rise) – guess these may have come from bottom of our road? £100 cash? Need about 10” and split. Interested? Malcolm in the village knows someone but you are sooo local. Let me know buy mid next week Cheers John 07801 *********
  12. The little picco chain on a 260 would need sharpening more often.
  13. we had a hobby caravan a few years back mint condition cost £1500 english van 1/2" thick roof german van 2" thick. much better insulation. I would buy a tabbort or hobby that has only been used as family holiday van if you get what I am saying
  14. How much are they ? have you seen the j latham one on ebay
  15. Had an email tonight from a neighbour we had been recommended. Wants 4 cu metres he made the offer of £100. Would loved to have seen his face when I quoted £360 tipped on the drive and by the way we have a special offer on kindling 3 for £10 if you have 12 bags that would round it off nicely to £400 cash.
  16. If the oil level is increasing in the sump could indicate lift pump or inj pump problem. On later vehicles with high pressure injection they tend to use electric pump in tank. If you are a in the habit of running on empty this is a good way of killing the pump as it relies on the fuel to cool it if you only have 8 litres of fuel it gets very hot. Do you have a hand prime pump if so pattern ones are £12 they allow air in but dont always leak. I took one off one of our old troopers once the system was bleed no more problems till we scrapped it problem comes if you run out of fuel or change filter.
  17. I bought a Nissan navara new on 52 plate. It needed servicing every five minutes and Nissan warranty was crap. I said to the dealer I would service in house and his reply was be careful because the pumps fail for a past time and cost 2k with fitting. Because of our qualifications and vat reg Landrover are happy with us doing our own servicing as are Merc. I binned the navara after 18 months and wont be going back. Your patrol could have a similar electronic pump thats why alot of garages dont want to know. You need to find a really good fuel injection shop with good rep and put the vehicle in their hands. We looked at the Patrol but they had too many gearbox problems at the time otherwise cracking vehicle and more economical than the amazons I run.
  18. I am sorry to here this. But I would focus on the fact that winter has not started yet. When it does the tree surgeons with a drop of wood will run out quickly. The dole spongers are too lazy to have done much. The current cold snap is expected for 4 weeks. I am always dead quiet in November but manic in January which is why I run a 4x4 hilux tipper . We are processing ash as fast as we can get it in as most of our stock was sold before the end of August.
  19. I have given up on that idea I was a young 41 year old with high ideals after another year in logs and a bad back. I had a conversation with a wise old gentleman and he explained no matter where you go in the world you cant educate pork. I should take a leaf out of the governments book £80 a cu in summer and £200 a cu in January. Rather than giving value for money in bags of logs and comparing btus just check what they cost at B&Q and drop the price by 50p. I have had large organisations trying to haggle the price of our bags of logs down to £1.35 only to find they sell online for £6.99 . I am 42 now all grown up.
  20. Remember to take off delivery cost average 10miles ea way at 60p a mile = £12 Wear and tear depreciation on machines. petrol for saws and processor cherry. Takes me 1.5 hrs to process and deliver a cu = £15 an hour with no sick pay or holiday. If you do a night shift at asda they pay + £10an hour. I agree if they charge £60 a tonne for cord all you can do is pass it on if I break the £100 a cu barrier that will kill it dead as people wont pay it. Rather than be a long term sustainable heat source it will be a fad.
  21. Not really dave if its mild all winter 150 if its cold like last year 300 . To do 60k you will need to do 600 cu m or 400 tonnes . 3 cubic metres a day 7 days a week for 6 months. Only £59986.58 to go but at least its getting cold:thumbup1:
  22. I consider myself to be playing at firewood but I do about 150-300 tonnes a year. I was delivering 16 cu on saturdays in August. I have people around me with 50k in cord wood stacked up. One log merchant I know has 400 tonnes of dry ash stacked up and he is not thinking of processing till January when it will be £240 for 2 Cu metres. Which is funny when you see people tearing about in old transits selling loads for £80. If its good firewood I buy it. I have a good stash of ash
  23. I would love to hear how you get on with this one. Round this way there is no way you will buy year old cord wood by weight.
  24. I have bfg ats on our disco van just done 60,000 miles alot of 3.5 tonne towing still got 5mm tread and no punctures. Its a no brainer even at 500 big ones with the vat
  25. As with most engines they get better as they wear in . We have found that our diesel trucks perform best just before they go bang. Nice loose 2 stroke with good crank seals and compression goes the best.
