  1. I have a large upright splitter which I think is great reliable and little maintenance overall only a third slower than most processors . at least 33% of a cord wood delivery wont go through a processor so u need a splitter. Our processor I have a love hate relationship with its now 9 years old and breaks down on at least a weekly basis. I guess what I am saying is get a good splitter first.
  2. Not sure on the patrol it could just be just a high idle switch operating a solinoid on the inj pump. On our Landcruiser it has a power heater which operates two halves of a grapefruit which heats the water. The speed increases so does the fuel consumption but the heat does not seem to increase I tend not to use it. You could get some one to push your switch while you look for a pump cutting in and out. I fit hot start heaters to big gensets so have a trade acct with hotstart. Good kit but works better if you have room for a bottle heater especially if you live in a chalky area.
  3. Sam I see your post looking for cordwood did you find any ?
  4. I have not seen another on ebay since but not been looking. You can buy one new for 2.5k but by the time u put it up and concrete floor your in for 5k. Large poly tunnels do come up on ebay
  5. Drop in if you are in the area. My wife is the kindling expert. I tried using her machine once but caught my fingers in the lid would not of hurt but she was sat on it shaking her head. Wives seem to work these machines better than us:thumbup: Not sure if we are closer than fuelwood
  6. I think you need to keep looking for a single phase kindlett much more versatile and does round as well as blocks of wood. Saves tying up a tractor especially when you only need a kw or so. And much less noise
  7. £20 - £30 sounds fair. I often have tree surgeons drop by with a transit trying to get £70 for a pile of twigs. Even a good heaped load on a transit without to much air will turn into a level load when cut up. £40 a tonne delivered in nice straight cord wood Knotty twisted arb arisings
  8. I bought this off ebay have mesh sides holds about 100 cu when piled 2m high. The pic was taken about 3 years ago before it was concreted and mesh sides put inside so it could be banked up to 9ft. With a bit more time will get some recent pics
  9. My preference is for the hilux yours for the ranger. I fell out with ford over a new transit many years ago and vowed never to return and I wont. My mate two doors down has a ranger double cab 55 plate and wont be buying another. I think he was unlucky and got a friday afternoon job like I did. Glad your happy with yours.
  10. Our remote is tyraped inside the front chassis since new.
  11. I was going to build a simple deck with a slope and a few of those rollers they use on boat trailers. I am hoping with a couple of long hookeroons we wont need too much in the way of hydraulics.
  12. They get the extra load by fitting a very flimsy tipper. The ranger does seem to suffer alot of faults especially gear selection when hot.

    4x4?

The td5 engine was in production longer than the 200 or 300 . Ours has now done 140k with no real problems just air mass meter. The 200 hundreds we had were noisey and gutless. The 300 used to blow head gaskets between 3&4 and eat water pumps for a past time. Td5 engines from 52 plate onwards very good as long as you dont let a beardy freak run it on veg oil chip fat or snot. Get someone who knows what they are doing repair it ( not a week end mechanic )
  14. sorry dave must have confused you with someone else. How much do u have left to sell.
  15. You did " dip your toe in the water " as you put it last winter
  16. I drove a mk 6 double cab hilux and was not impressed I thought maybe it was because I was trying to replace the landcruiser with it. I have a mk4 tipper and its great only has 700kg load cap but does our job a treat. There is a mk 6 tipper conversion on Boulter Tippers - for new build, frames, repair and servicing of all types of tipper body . Maybe try a mk 5 and get it converted that way you should keep some build quality and get the d4d engine with 40mpg rather than the 23 we get out of ours.
  17. Dave whats the quality like
  18. very busy aug -oct . dead in November I think people shop round. Just about run out but have some dry ash in cord . Difficult to know how much to do for next winter if there is lots about and get a mild winter will be harder to shift at the right money. I plan to use 1.4 cu metre vent bags with tipping loop on the bottom. Had a quote for 200 at £4.40 ea inc del a bit dear but could get a few seasons out of them. If anyone is interested in getting an order up for a 1000 see if we can get the price down.
  19. I have bfg ats on our td5 disco van fitted in 2005 now done 60000 miles often with 3000kg trailer behind. Or high speed to southern ireland and all over scotland. Cant remember having a single puncture or rebalance, the side walls are starting to perish near the wheel on the rears. all tyres still have 4mm and pulled a 3 tonne trailer out of a snow covered field with 1:6 gradient last night which suprised me but not as much as the traction control ( lots of crunching and buzzing noises ) . Cant advise on grabbers not had an at2 but would imagine the the ride on road may be marginally better as the side walls are softer but they do wear quicker.
  20. I am a bit out of touch with isuzu, I think our yard truck has the 3.1 94 plate trooper ? I think they went to a 3.0 common rail around 1998 but the rodeo has a different and better engine. The late trooper engine was alot of trouble.
  21. If you are going to take them off in the spring I would just bite the bullet and put a good MT on . Its important to have good traction on the back of my hilux as we have manual locking hubs on the front and there is no way I am getting out to do that in this weather. So loaded or not it goes everywhere just in rear wheel drive. I think it is supposed to have limited slip diff on the back but after 200,000 miles I doubt that still works. I hope this helps with your decision a good quality tyre will carry the weight better without overheating or going out of shape.
  22. I just fitted bfg mts to our hilux. Been motoring about full or empty with just two wheel drive sticks like s***t to a blanket. No noise at all dont bother with the rest.
  23. I use a universal tractor transmission oil. Dont know what it holds but 9 litres sounds light. On another forum I read our 2140 should be warm and running when you check the level otherwise the level will be too low ?
  24. Hi Andy I was under the impression you were supplying verdos. Verdos only use pine as do hot max. Hot max is half the price produce good heat for not long. Verdos last longer but produce very little heat. I have stopped using both the products in my office as our pine kindling offcuts burn longer and hotter. I would be interested in trying any bricks with a good element of hardwood in. Steve
  25. I had a new d22 best we got was 24 mpg . Some times people get the maths wrong and the speedos read 8 % over so you think you are getting more than you are.
